Re: Abhorrent service & ignorance by Kawasaki Pune and India Kawasaki

Really awesome news then. Glad that you stood by and made sure all OEM parts were used. Pretty sure they would have done some jugaad if you weren't present and keeping a sharp eye on the work being done.

Please use earmuffs next time when in cases like this. Man, it might have been deafening in there with the sound of his ego crashing down.

Some things never change, do they? Imagine the damage could have caused ripping the wires off the factory loom.

Happy riding mate. And hopefully, you found some other well-equipped shops to carry out repairs/service in the future.

Cheers

You took the word out of my mouth. Only reason why I chose to stick with a brand which they say is always overpriced and doesn't give all the bells and whistles! What they do is brilliant after sales service and decently priced parts and service costs! In short, peace of mind!

As with every organisation, they lamented for a while about how the complaints and the negative publicity was unnecessary. They could have had just avoided all this if they took proper care in the first place. Well, all's well that ends well. The bike is completely sorted.

Have been really busy the past weeks so will click and post photos of the bike soon. My sincere thanks and gratitude to all BHPians who helped, guided and supported during this ordeal. Your support is what kept me going. Cheers!
Thankfully almost everything got sorted, can understand the pain you must have gone through! Glad that it ended well. Hopefully you are now getting better service from a better place for your bike!

Wonderful to hear that the Kawasaki Pune dealership finally woke up from it's slumber and fixed things to your satisfaction. Hope they are able to maintain a high standard of service going forward instead of bungling at first, losing good will and then fixing it eventually.

Did anyone from India Kawasaki contact you?

Funnily enough, this was exactly the same thing that the local Triumph dealership service manager was telling me when they came to my house to prove that they had used original coolant. I mentioned that if they had listened to the customer and actually checked for the complaint, instead of ignoring me and sending me on my way, I wouldnt have had to post my challenges with them on a public forum.

These dealership staff really need a mindset overhaul

Brilliant! Nice to see you persevere on this. Hopefully these bunch of morons don't get to touch your bike again.

Re: Abhorrent service & ignorance by Kawasaki Pune and India Kawasaki

A quick update to this thread. So my Ninja 1000 had developed a few rattles and a bad horn over the year, mainly due to shipping it in a cage from Guwahati to Pune last year after my NE trip. Went for a trip to Satpura in Feb and it became pretty bad with rattling becoming unbearable on rumblestrips too.
I Had given this to Slipstream as well but was always overlooked as Kunal was overloaded with stuff typically. Was browsing through the net for more specialised garages in pune to see if this can be resolved and found a new one, Hyperion Superbikes which has recently set shop in Viman Nagar, Pune.

Given that it's very close to my home in Pune, asked a friend of mine to check it out (I'm in Kerala since Dec), he has his own Versys 650, and came back very impressed post his conversation with the owner Mihir. Decided to get the rattling sorted by him and he did a great job on it, the rattling was coming in due to the welding in visor bracket coming off, he welded it back and took care of the horn and few other small issues .
This workshop looks promising and I'm planning to get a few more things done by him prior to my trip to Tadoba next month.
P.S: Just to highlight, I have no stake in Hyperion and haven't yet met Mihir as I'm still in Kerala.

Anyway, they asked me to bring the bike in for inspection. Mr. Prasad was really helpful in this matter and organised a group call between himself, me and Mr. Patil; so that the next steps were clear for both parties. Mr. Patil agreed to get the paintwork fixed and replace all of the missing bushes and washers.

It was made very clear that I would only accept the said resolution if the paintwork was restored to the factory spec, else I wanted the fairings replaced. I would also not accept anything but OEM bushings and washers. I also refused to leave the bike unsupervised even for a moment owing to my past experiences. I offered to ride the bike home and bring it back if necessary.

I was relieved considering the step forward after all these agonising months. I was busy during the week so I booked an appointment for the 8th of December and reached the workshop at 10:30. They had brought in buffing-polishing equipment, products and micro-fibre cloths. This time I had gotten the bike pre-washed before going to the workshop. They removed the fairings on the left side first. It was not very easy for the trained technician to do so, as he couldn't remember the order and locations of the parts to be removed. I was standing right in front of the bike.

At one point he was trying to disconnect wires by pulling on them hard without unlocking the locks of the connecting sockets. I showed him how to unlock the pins to which he angrily replied " Sir aap baith jao, mujhe karne do, ya aap karo" Ego problems much.

Thankfully it was smooth sailing from here on. Mr. Venkatesh Patil personally worked on the fairings. It took the entire day just to get the left side fixed. I inspected the paint closely and agreed that the work was upto the mark. Thank the gods I thought. I was just happy to get the paint sorted.

While putting the fairings back, the technician once again tried to convince me that pieces of tape were sufficient and "just like" OEM bushings. I insisted on the proper parts which they did have in their inventory. The fairings were then put back with these OEM parts and a much better fit was achieved.

It was now 16:00 and I had also had to be somewhere else, so we decided to complete the rest of the work the next day. I went in at 10:30 again the next day and the right side was fixed too upto my satisfaction as well. I had mentioned to Mr. Patil several times that I did not expect them to do any additional work whatsoever apart from repairing the damages caused by them. But in the quest to redeem themselves they did detailing work on the entire bike. The work was done by the end of day.

To be honest I had lost hopes that the scratches could be mended, but thankfully they were gone. The ceramic coating did it's job I guess. I closely inspected the paintwork and the fairings looked good as new, which they already were. They clicked a photo of me with the bike and Mr. Venkatesh to confirm that the job had been finally attended to.

As with every organisation, they lamented for a while about how the complaints and the negative publicity was unnecessary. They could have had just avoided all this if they took proper care in the first place. Well, all's well that ends well. The bike is completely sorted.

Hi Meccanico,

Glad to hear that your troubles have been taken care of. Reading your post, it clearly shows that the Pune service guys have still no clue on how to get basic work done.

They should have removed the old fairings and given you brand new fairings instead of buffing and polishing them. That is the dealer's fault in damaging the bike.

I worked with Kawasaki in 2019-20 as an external vendor, and I can tell you, that most likely, Kawasaki did send the service center new fairings, but the service personnel did not give those to you. They probably sold it as OEM part to someone else.

Regarding lack of parts being told by Kawasaki dealers - that is absolute BS. Kawasaki India sources a lot of parts in India itself as well as from Thailand. Hardly anything comes from Japan. The reason why the parts are not available is that the dealers do a very nice business selling parts through the back door to other distributors or dealerships while telling genuine customers that no parts are available.

Re: Abhorrent service & ignorance by Kawasaki Pune and India Kawasaki

Apologies for the follow up post, but wanted to shed light on a few things here. Based on my limited experience working with Kawasaki as an external vendor for their parts (sliders, exhaust, rear sets), these are my personal observation.

1. Kawasaki Japan has very limited interaction with Kawasaki India on micro affairs and customer feedback. Japan is focused on sales volume and market capture. Nothing more and nothing less. They know that Japanese values and way of doing business wont work in India (they should seriously have a chat with Suzuki and find that its not true) so they let the Indian subsidiary handle the customer affairs.

2. Kawasaki India always claims that they cannot do anything without the authorization of Kawasaki Japan. This becomes a chicken and egg scenario where no one wants to do anything.

3. Dealers know of this issue and use it to their advantage in utilizing shoddy practices. I have worked in the service center with some dealers, trained them in installing parts, and I can tell you, I will not allow them to fix my bicycle. The problem is the good service guys usually get poached to other centers, and it takes time to build and train service people. The dealerships don't want to do this. They are happy to utilize slip shod practices.

4. Not all dealers are unethical. There are good dealers, but sadly they are the exception.

5. Kawasaki India HQ is at Pune, and they very well know the nonsense being carried out by the Pune dealer. Unfortunately, as long as sales and revenue keep churning, they are happy to not rock the boat. To challenge the issue means to go to point 2.

Again these are just my personal observations. Happy to be countered or challenged
