Any rides done / planned? Looks like there is more than a couple of Bangalore based Ducatistas in Team-Bhp. |
Thanks :-) I dont really have a concrete reason on why i upgraded to Multi within 6 months of Z900 ownership
Having said that - i am insanely more comfortable on the Multi than i was on the Z. Maybe that's because of total lack of wind blast & the suite of electronics. Even when i was test riding/renting out bikes before the Z - the bike on which i felt most at home was the Tiger - but i ruled it out as i thought it was too expensive at the time (LOL) & it lacked the punch which Z/Striple had.
I ride almost every weekend - completed 4.5k kms in 2 months now. Longest i have been to is Chikamagalur for a weekend getaway - otherwise 300-400km on sunday morning with my Z group which also have a few BHPians in it.
BTW we should plan a T-BHP Bangalore ride in the holiday season.

Thanks !! Here is an attempt to answer your question -
Positives -
1. Engine - I cant say enough superlatives about the engine. It has crazy amount of power and torque. Any gear any speed - just wring open the throttle and it goes like a rocket-ship.
2. Electronic Rider Aids - It has almost every rider aid you can think of - ABS, Cornering ABS, Traction Control, Wheelie Control (!!), Engine Power Modes, Riding Modes. Plus all of them are fully customizable. This gives a lot of confidence even in all sort of conditions you face - bad roads, bad weather etc
3. Sky-hook electronic Suspension - Totally customizable with a push of a few buttons, feels like you are riding on a carpet. It gives enough feedback from the roads when ridden enthusiastically and absorbs most of potholes, bad roads & minor speed humps from you.
4. Rider Ergonomics - Extremely relaxed riding position. Coupled with the fact that you feel like you are sitting "in" the bike rather than "on" the bike. For someone like me who didnt have a whole lot of recent riding experience - this makes it better. I tried sitting on a friend's MV F3 and i was so uncomfortable with the feeling on riding on top of a motorcycle
5. Looks - Well - its a Ducati. Need i say anything else
Dislikes / Negatives
1. Heat - The engine does heat up quite a lot in city traffic. Once you are stopped at a signal or bumper to bumper traffic - in no time the temps jump to 103/104 and you feel the heat on your thighs. Having said that - once you start moving it quickly drops down to 98-97. At cruising speeds on the highway - the engine temps are 72-75 which is lower than a Z800 at similiar speeds.
2. Gearbox - While the quickshifter is a boon -the shift quality has a scope for improvement. I do get false neutrals once in a while especially when shifting from 5th to 6th - need to get it checked.
3. Weight - The bike weighs a whopping 230kgs wet. Coupled with the fact that its a tall bike - it makes it not an easy task to manouvere at low speeds inside the city. However again like engine heat - once you are on the move - you totally forget the weight and can throw it around like a naked bike.
4. Accessory pricing - Everything for this bike comes with a Ducati tax - whether you buy it from Ducati or third-party.
5. Sound - If you like a inline-4, it will not sound very sweet to your ears. Initially i didnt like the sound but now i am slowly falling for the V-twin rumble. A termignoni full system exhaust is planned - lets see
