Ducati Panigale V4 launched at Rs. 20.53 lakh

Ducati has launched the Panigale V4 in India. The superbike is available in two variants - V4 and V4 S priced at Rs. 20.53 lakh and Rs. 25.29 lakh (ex-showroom, India) respectively. These are introductory prices and for 2018, only 20 units have been allotted for India. Pre-bookings are now open, and the first bikes will be delivered in July 2018.

The Ducati Panigale V4 was unveiled at 2017 EICMA motor show. It is the first Ducati to be powered by a 4-cylinder engine. The standard bike has a wheelbase of 1,469 mm while the V4 S is slightly shorter at 1,464 mm. Both versions have the same seat height which is set at 830 mm. The Panigale V4 is based around an aluminium alloy frame with 43 mm, adjustable, upside down Showa front shocks and an adjustable Sachs monoshock at the rear. The V4 S features Ohlins suspension at both ends with electronic compression and rebound damping adjustment for the rear shock absorber. The V4 weighs 198 kg - 3 kg more than the V4 S. It comes with a 16-litre fuel tank.

The Panigale V4 has a distinct front cowl with triangular vents which house twin LED headlights with LED DRLs. The instrument cluster comprises of a 5-inch TFT colour display. The twin-exhausts have been tucked on the underside. Standard equipment includes quick shift, launch control, quick adjustment buttons and auto-off indicators. The base bike gets a Sachs steering damper while the V4 S gets an Ohlins unit, Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES) and a lithium-ion battery.

Powering the bike is a new 1,103 cc, 90-degree V4 engine that produces 211 BHP @ 13,000 rpm and 124 Nm of peak torque @ 10,000 rpm. The engine is mated with a 6-speed gearbox via a slipper clutch and comes equipped with Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) up and down. It has three riding modes - Race, Sport and Street.

Brakes come in the form of twin 330 mm discs in the front with 4-piston calipers by Brembo and a single 245 mm disc with a 2-piston caliper in the rear. Bosch Cornering ABS EVO is standard. The base Panigale V4 rides on 17-inch, 5-spoke light alloy wheels while the V4 S rides on 17-inch, 3-spoke Marchesini forged aluminium wheels. If my memory is correct, the Desmosedici RR was the first Ducati to have a V4. However, it was a 1500 limited run road legal replica of a MotoGP racer.

Re: Ducati Panigale V4 launched at Rs. 20.53 lakh

I can't believe that everyone is going GAGA over the pricing of the V4. Base model at 20 lakh ex-showroom is crazy enough. The MSRP of this bike is around $21k in USA. And since this is assembled in Thailand it would attract much lesser duties too.

Litre bikes nowadays cost 20 lakh easy, maybe that's why this is being heralded as 'great value', 'introductory price' and while stocks last. If the same thing was around 15 it would have destroyed the whole competition, missed opportunity if you ask me. I have been eagerly waiting to get a V4 bike, the Striple will be 5 years old in 2019 will look into taking the plunge then and see.

Bonus (Ducati pricelist from 2009)

Which litre class superbike costs less than 15? Let's not consider the CKD Busa here because of two reasons - 1) It makes sense to go CKD given the volumes and Busa brand pull in India and 2) Its a whole different machine. The latter goes with the Ninja 1000 as well.

Here are the prices of the real competition -

CBR 1000RR - 16,79,838
Ninja ZX 10R - 18,80,000
GSX R1000 - 19,00,000
BMW S1000 RR - 19,60,000
Panigale V4 - 20,53,000

CBR1000RR SP - 21,22,190
Ninja ZX10 RR - 21,90,000
GSX R1000R - 22,00,000
BMW S1000RR - 22,30,000
Panigale V4 - 25,29,000

While it is certainly expensive - I guess most people do expect to pay a premium for the Europeans (Ducati and BMW) over the Japanese superbikes. And the premium demanded seems to be reasonable, specially for the normal variant - and hence the favourable reactions from social media.

Compared to the BMW, the V4 is an absolute sexy looking machine like most other Ducati motorcycles. And the electronics package and specifications look good enough to be the best machine out there as well.

That said, I hate the V4 sound. Not even close to the inline4 scream of its rivals.

Yeah, like how all the GTi's got sold? I'd take that with a grain of salt. My local dealer is giving me an option of July delivery for a Panigale V4 so I guess that's just PR hype.

EDIT: The bike likely cost them 14-15 lakhs or less with all duties imported into the country (Ducati pays around 7% and gets lots of subsidies for make in India)

The local dealer in Pune has 2 bookings. 20 bikes booked across India then isnt far fetched.

Re: Ducati Panigale V4 launched at Rs. 20.53 lakh

I know a couple of folks who have booked the V4 as well so 20 seems realistic to me.

Saw the bike up-close at Qatar recently and boy-oh-boy do the Italians know design! The bike simply takes your breath away like nothing else with the way she stands and poses.

Pity that I am still a stickler for Japanese reliability otherwise would have been seriously tempted to drool over the V4. Specially considering that the other V4 available in India hardly has any sales/service backup to boast.

Reliability and design factors aside - any reason why you would prefer a V4 instead of the more common inline4 superbikes like your 10R?

Re: Ducati Panigale V4 launched at Rs. 20.53 lakh

I fail to understand how come units sold is more important to bikers than the pricing they launched at.

This is just like how Ferrari and other exotic car makers launch cars when they say its a limited edition and all sold out. Completely meaningless and no way for anyone to confirm it.

Ofcourse. The bottom end Torque on the V4 motors is legendary. The V4s can be as high revving as the i4s while still giving you the bottom end grunt of a Twin. The way an RSV4 pulls out of corners has to be seen to be believed. I am sure the Panigale v4 would also have the same character.
Oh and the V4s sound the best on full song. Hands down. The only i4 which sounds as good is the crossplane R1. These are ofcourse my personal opinions.
Unfortunately the V4s arent really as smooth as their i4 brethren and that does make the Jap purists stay away. Not to forget the abysmal resale value Aprilias and Ducatis hold in our market.

V4s are also narrower than inline 4s.
