Re: My First, My Last, My Everything - My Ducati Multistrada 950

Congratulations on buying the MTS950. Lovely bike, I had the pleasure of riding beside one few weeks back. Yes, it does go fast when one wants to be and it is comfortable at the same time. Wish they had provided Cruise Control and a centre stand in stock configuration like Tiger 800 XRX.

It does excel over Tiger in performance owing to that bigger and more powerful engine. Sport mode must be good fun on open highways once in a while. To some riders, performance may be more important and for such riders, MTS 950 does the trick. Sorely overpriced, they could have given Tiger 800 a run for their money had they priced the bike in same range.

What about Fuel Efficiency and Tank range? Tiger really excels here with a range of 350 odd kms and FE figures with sober riding around 24-25 KMPL.

Thanks. The fuel capacity is 20Litres as compared to 19Litres of the Tiger and I get a efficiency of around 21-22Kmpl if I ride it in correct gears at correct rpms. Otherwise I get around 18Kmpl with spirited rides. The full tank range is 360kms.

As I wrote in my review I miss out on the cruise control apart from that I see no reason to move over to Tiger. The on-road prices of Tiger and MS950 differ by just about 50,000Rs in Pune.

Also I here is the pictorial representation of sitting postures between MS950 , Tiger and N650. I got this infor from http://cycle-ergo.com/ . The MS950 has a more upright iding posture than the Tiger and Ninja which I find a less tiring in longer rides.

Re: My First, My Last, My Everything - My Ducati Multistrada 950

I had my first servicing done when the bike had completed about 900kms by end of September. The first servicing is scheduled usually at 1000kms but I did it little early since I was slated to go on a 1000kms ride. The final bill amount came to 10870Rs including GST .

Break-up of the bill

In the last week of November I got a email for recall from Ducati to fix the radiator hose pipe. Got that fixed Free of Cost. The time it took for the fix was about 4 hours.

The recently revised rates at Bangalore service center is Rs 1800 per hour. A two hour service would end up with a similar bill.

Congrats on the bike, great choice

Labor times for various services for all the models are displayed in the Ducati service station reception in Bangalore along with the per hour labor charge, so that there is visibility to the owners on what is expected in terms of labor charges.

Wanderlust had also posted the first service bill of his Multi 950 in his review thread and for his bike labor was charged for 1.5 hours, that is INR 3000. Unless you did something additional, not sure why you have been charged more for labor. You may want to ask your service station for the published labor times next time around, so that they don't over charge you for a normal scheduled service.

Re: My First, My Last, My Everything - My Ducati Multistrada 950

Completed a 1500Kms ride from Pune-Chickmagalur-Pune over the weekend. We started off at 5am from Pune , reached Chickmagalur at 4.30pm. We stayed in Mountain Valley Homestay, recommended from my side. Good rooms and food at 2000Rs per head including food. The ride was fabulous especially from Shimoga to Chickmagalur with its twisties and turns with sparse traffic. Some pictures from my phone.

Re: My First, My Last, My Everything - My Ducati Multistrada 950

Sunday ride update 11/March/2018

Route was : Pune - Lonavala - Palm Beach Road (CBD) - Lonavala - Amby Valley Road - Paud - Hinjewadi - Pune

The total distance travelled was about 300kms. While coming back we tried out an offbeat road via Amby valley road and Paud. The mild offroad capabilities of the MS950 were evident. No front end crashing while going over ditch and rock steady on graval. I had put it in Enduro mode just for fun and boy-o-boy did we enjoy it !!! The MS950 is in its elements on such off-beat road. We were 3 Multistradas, 1 GS1200 and 1 HD street 750.

Major milestone. My MS950 completed 6000Kms during this ride.

6 months 6000Kms

The route :

I will try to find the videos of the last portion of the ride to upload here.

Does the LCD have a night mode setting to reduce glare on the windscreen?

There is no night mode as such but the display brightness can be adjusted to your liking through the menu.

Re: My First, My Last, My Everything - My Ducati Multistrada 950

Its been now over 1.5 years with the Multi and till dates works like clock work. It brings a smile to my face on every ride. I have completed about 12500Kms on the bike and to be honest I wanted to ride more.

Last year could not ride in summer since I was out of country.

Pune-Udaipur-Pune

The route that we took was Pune -> Surat -> Statue of Unity -> Halol -> Shyamalaji -> Udaipur -> Baroda -> Surat -> Pune. The total Kms covered were about 2200kms. This included going to Nathdwara and Haldighati from Udaipur. We stayed in Amantra Comfort Hotel in Udaipur. I would recommend this hotel for anybody going to Udaipur on bike since they have basement parking for bikes. We stayed in Tent city at Statue of Unity.

Pune-Goa-Pune and the accident

In February this year we rode to Goa via Amboli ghat. The ride to Goa was smooth. The road to Amboli is OK not in very good shape but nothing that the multistrada should worry about. But while coming back just after Sawantwadi a dog suddenly jumped in front of bike. I had to brake really hard but because some loose gravel the bike slipped and I was dragged about 20 feet on the tar road. The bike went even furthur and fell into a ditch.

The bike fell on my ankle and the bone fractured. But thanks to the riding gear there was not a scratch on the body. The riding pants were shredded at hips but it saved my skin from getting peeled. The Jacket was scratched at elbow. The helmet was scratched up too. I cannot stress enough the importance of riding gear.

ATGATT -> All the gear all the time.

After the accident picked myself and the bike up. The ankle had swollen a bit and so was left hand pinkie finger. But I tied the leg with a bandage and rammed my feet into my shoes and said to myself whatever happens reach Pune and in that excruciating pain rode the remaining 350kms. Not a thing I would recommend anybody else.

The bike took a beating on the right side with lots of body panels donated to NHAI. It did not skip a beat even after a fall and that says a lot about reliability of the bike. It is mechanically absolutely tough as a nail. The bike now is in Ducati workshop. It took about 12 days for the replacement parts to arrive. Ducati sends them by air as compared to Triumph which send them by sea and takes no less than a month to arrive. The bike is well into recovery.

And as for me currently in cast with a plate on my ankle bone. It's such a pain to be away from riding for some time.

Wonder ABS didn't help much here or perhaps it was too quick in time and distance.

Getting back to base would have been your aim, I would have done the same.

Wish you a speedy recovery. Don't think of riding right now, summer heat is already showing up.
