1st Service @794 kms on 16-11-2017
The bike reached 794kms on the Odo by the time I reached the dealership from Meerut
My packing kit for the service...lolz. The first job was to fit the additional horn.
All the fairings were removed as was the original horn and bracket. The head mechanic (Lalaram) wondering where he will get the horn fitted in such tight fairing with no unused space in the Ninja 1000.
This was the wiring diagram used. I had already prepared all initial wiring accordingly. My first choice were the Minda Trumpets but there was just no space to fit them in, not even a single unit as it was too wide. So had to settle for the Roots Smartones.
The Relay was finally placed and zip tied at a spot where it caused no interference
A Y-Bracket was formed and all bolts were properly Loctite'd so that they do not come loose at speed
The Horns were securely hidden off with no interference or touching any ends even on full turns.
The Oil Filter. Rs. 730/-
And it was promptly replaced after draining the oil
Now there was some lengthy discussions on which Motul 100% fully synthetic oil to use - 300V vs 7100? 300V was a pure race spec oil which was thinner and hence provided enhanced performance but lower service life and slightly lower protection. Also it was not rated by JASO and had it's own Motul ratings which were equivalent/higher to JASO MA1. Also no other oil could be mixed into it, in case of any emergency. This oil was a double ester based product and was more suited for purely race track oriented bikes like the ZX10R. It costed Rs. 1150/- a litre
And then the main choice was made in favour of 7100. It was the official oil specified by Motul for the Ninja 1000. It was JASO MA2 (the latest) rated, 100% synthetic, single ester based product. It was thicker and had a longer service life, more protection for the engine, more safer for the catalytic convertor, was perfect for a pure touring bike purpose and other oils could be mixed into it in case of any emergency.
It's specifications
It was priced at Rs. 810/- per litre
3.8 Litres was used and charged
The oil being refilled. Notice the Red color.
The oil window being checked
The HSRP was also fitted to the bike. Also the chain was properly cleaned with kerosene and brush and then given a nice rinse. Finally it was lubed by Motul Chain Lube.
The bike finally ready for delivery after 1st service and wheel rims change.
Aurum Automobile, Delhi has also developed it's Service Van for outstation servicing of bikes and the owner assured me that my next service will be given at my doorstep at Meerut. Petrol charges for these vans are borne by IKM, Pune.
The final Spare Parts cost was Rs. 3,807.98
And the
Total Bill for 1st Service was Rs. 4,869.98p. including labour charges of Rs. 1,062/- including GST. Quite reasonable I would say. IKM has now started charging for all services as per each work done. I did not undergo washing (Rs. 350/-+GST) as my bike would again get dirty by the time I reached Meerut. Also Air Filter Cleaning (Rs. 1400/-+GST) was not required in 1st service (and not specified in maintenance schedule for 1st service) as the service duration was too low. Many dealerships however unnecessarily carry out air filter cleaning on 1st service leading to inflated bills. So, wake up consumers...
Overall a quite pleasing experience contrary to all the news floating around about the
'dreaded' Kawasaki Service. Basically also depends upon how aware and proactive you are, otherwise the world is there to fleece you! Hope this clears the air.
Cheers...
