Re: Harley-Davidson appoints Peter MacKenzie as MD for India

Over 7 months since Vikram Pahwa left for BMW . Shows how hard it is to find bosses for automotive companies in India.

See this article - Severe talent crunch at top for global auto companies like BMW, Audi in India.

MacKenzie is not going to have it easy. I read somewhere that Harley's Indian sales were down 20% YOY in FY 2016-17. The early adopters & leisure buyers bought their Harleys in the early years. Now, it's time to convince more serious riders who are frankly spoilt for choice.

Re: Harley-Davidson appoints Peter MacKenzie as MD for India

Harley appears to have lost the plot in India.

Their bread and butter model, the Street, did well initially, thanks to affordable price tag and Harley image.

However, a slew of Bad publicity (thanks to poor brakes, QC issues) has tarnished the reputation of the company to some extent.

And lastly, a flood of great products from rivals like KTM, Kawasaki, Benelli has totally taken away the limelight from the HDs.

Looks he has already started taking tough calls, outgoing Fatboy and Heritage are being sold at discounts of around 2 lac as per this post. They must have unsold inventories at factories and to get rid of stocks is on top priority for any new guy.
