Depends on the country as well. For US, it might be able to do cross country. In India, it's just a comfortable option to the superbike, and will be best suited for breakfast rides and day trips.

For cross country touring in India, would prefer the cheaper Versys 650 or the more expensive Africa Twin over this. 130mm GC is not going to be easy to manage for touring in India.

But it has so much more going for it which the Versys cannot be. A bike capable of doing 300 kmph (electronically limited to 250). A proper 1000+cc 100+bhp (142) 4 cylinder bike, fly by wire, led lighting (1st in class), slipper and clutch assist, 2x2 exhausts, all latest electronic aids including that Bosch 6 axis inertia system, both adjustable suspension, good enough wind protection, dedicated pannier mounting system, 3 mode traction control, cornering abs, dual power modes, average kmpl of around 17 giving a range of 300+kms on a tankful plus all other bells and whistles of a litre class bike @9.98L is just too mouth watering... And my primary aim is cross country riding on paved roads, not off road.

Cheers...

Yes. Surely agreed.

My concerns when it comes to touring on this bike would be 130mm GC and 95 ron fuel.

If these are not a concern for you, then it beats all the other bikes in that price range on everything else (On road)

My Heritage has a similar ground clearance and I did not face gc issues while riding on paved roads. But is 95 ron compulsory on this bike? Or will our normal petrol not work?

Some photos that I found...

Re: 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 launched @ 9.98 lakh

Kawasaki Ninja 1000 website fails to mention any details regarding KCMF (Kawasaki Cornering Management Function) and KIBS (Intelligent anti lock brake system)

Has Kawasaki skipped the IMU for India to keep prices low?

PS - No confirmed news or anything. Just my suspicion and I could be wrong.

Read the official press release for launch - http://kawasaki-india.com/2017/07/10...1000-in-india/

Also Kawasaki starts local assembly of the Ninja 1000 - http://kawasaki-india.com/2017/07/13...kes-ninja1000/

They seem damn serious about India operations now.

Cheers...

Hi,
Sirji, i have been following your bike purchases since the last 2-3 years and i have a hunch you will end up buying this

Its a fantastic bike for touring on paved roads, no doubt about it. Its one of the very few bikes which gives you sport bike level of speed and handling with comfort.

Regarding fuel i don't think 91 ron petrol would make such a big difference as i don't think any body till date have complained about it in any of the kawasaki bikes.

Please remember 1 thing, world over kawasaki are known to overbuild their engines and detune them for long trouble free life. In one of the forums i had read that this bike can easily touch 300 kmph but is electronically restricted to 250-260 kmph. So no worries and with this cracker of the price its a no brainer.

All the best and looking forward for your review of Ninja 1000 (I know you won't be able to resist).

Re: 2017 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 launched @ 9.98 lakh

I was quoted 998000 + 81840 RTO + 23000 Zero dep Insurance = 11,02,840/- On Road for Ninja 1000 today in Delhi. Delivery in one week.

Versys 650 quote was 661000 + 54880 RTO + 15137 Insurance = 731017/- on road. Immediate delivery.

Now to make the decision.

Cheers...

Decision is very simple - Based on your use you will select either.

If you need a vehicle which is go anywhere types then Versys 650

If you need a vehicle which is latest tech and 4 inline and something that can only be used on beautifully laid highways - N1000.

By the way Versys 1000 is currently being sold at 13 lakhs or so, hence if you want a bike which is go anywhere along with all the tech that N1000 has, go for Versys 1000

Well, I have already ticked off Ladakh (3000 kms round trip) from my bucket list, which I did on my Himalayan (now sold). Not sure I would have been comfortable going on a Versys 650 on that terrain. Not that it isn't capable of but more that the Himalayan was just more practical and purpose built for that trip imho.

Now the trips that I have left planned have paved roads end to end though the distances are great (6000km round trip). Here I have to make the decision based on comfort (gel seat upgrade? even if it's a Versys), refinement and power. So it's still a ongoing process. Besides I always wanted a litre class, 100+ bhp bike in my stable, though a comfortable one at that, not a aggressive one. And on my return one that could also double up on my daily tennis runs with equal ease as a weekend cruiser or a occasional long distance cruncher. Btw Versys 1000 looses out on some important tech (Bosch Inertia System and cornering ABS) and improvements in the Ninja 1000, is heavier and 2-3 lacs costlier. I need to keep costs below 10L optimally otherwise BMW, Triumph and Ducati come into the picture too. So looking for best bang for my buck. Also I feel the Japs are more bulletproof.

Cheers...

Versys 1000 is even more of a road bike than the 650. With the current level of equipment on offer and the pricing - I feel the Ninja 1000 is almost a no-brainer choice in comparison.

Only concern would be the GC.

GC is the biggest concern - when I sat on the bike yesterday, with my weight, I could see that the GC was even worse in the front and I am sure the bike will brush all the speed breakers in Mumbai. That was precisely the reason why I ended up with the Versys.

I differ on the Versys 1000 being a road bike. It has electronics like traction control and ABS and different power modes. These will only enhance the bike's go anywhere nature. But I was really impressed by the seat of Versys 1000. Versys 650 has the most comfortable seat and V1000 takes is one step above. The seat is a sofa for sure and you will not need a GEL seat for long distance. The price at which the V1000 are currently selling is VFM.

Though its my opinion, people with V1000 shall be able to comment more on that.

My biggest issue with N1000 is the ground clearance and some parts which does feel that it has been built for a price.

Sorry about butting in, but it id precisely because of all the electronic aids as well as the darn weight, that doesnt allow this bike to be a go anywhere bike.

That and the 17 inch rims which means finding dual sport knobbies is not very easy.

The versys 1000 internationally is sold as a fantastic and sensible two up touring machine for on road or easy gravel roads.

With the current ninja 1k pricing, its very difficult indeed to not get it home. Hell, all you need is a bigger screen and handle bar risers to tour.
