Kawasaki Z650 launched at Rs. 5.19 lakh

Kawasaki has launched the Z650 in India at a price of Rs. 5.19 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Z650 is essentially a replacement of the ER-6n and was globally unveiled at the 2016 EICMA show in Milan.

The Z650 is a naked version of the 2017 Ninja 650. It is based on the same steel trellis frame and is powered by the same engine. The new frame helps make the Z650 around 19 kg lighter than its predecessor, the ER-6n. The instrumentation cluster has been borrowed from the Z900.

Powering the 2017 Kawasaki Z650 is a BS-IV compliant 649 cc, water-cooled engine that churns out 67 BHP @ 8,000 rpm and 65.7 Nm of torque @ 6,500 rpm. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox and also gets a slipper clutch.

Suspension setup on the bike includes 41 mm telescopic forks at the front and a horizontal back-link with preload adjustment at the rear. Braking duties are handled by 300 mm petal-type twin discs at the front and a 220 mm petal-type disc at the rear. ABS is now a standard offering with the Z650.

Re: Kawasaki Z650 launched at Rs. 5.19 lakh

This is the real deal.
At 6.XX on-road this is an excellent all round bike with all bells and whistles as standard.

It was never a slouch in the first place, hence, a 19Kg weight reduction will do wonders here.

Kawasaki Z650 launched at Rs. 5.19 lakh

This fixes the one big problem the earlier er-6n had - that of being ugly!

And it also fixes the other major problem of not having ABS.

And the price increase seems to be only around 20k compared to the ER6N. Good job by Kawasaki.

None of the recent release stories and product updates seem to have made it to Kawasaki's website yet

Re: Kawasaki Z650 launched at Rs. 5.19 lakh

A great gap bridged by Kawasaki which saw a vacuum in the mid-segment bike at this price in Indian market.

The Z650 parallel twin excels in design, styling and looks dominating with the 'Z' DNA.

A great commuter and an apt bike with subtle performance numbers which should penetrate to the consumers looking at such qualities in a bike.

There is Benelli 600i BN with an i4 engine with a little more money but the brand overall lacks reliability.

People looking at buying the Z650 would certainly look at a long-term relationship and keep one to commute in and around the city on weekends with peace.

Cheers,
Amey

If these words of Powerdrift are to be believed, we have a substantial upgrade to the ER6N. One that everyone can truly look forward to, at that kind of prices.

Kawasaki has made themselves very competitive in the 5L - 10L segment with the new lineup of Z650, Ninja 650, Versys 650 and Z900.

Truely the new lineup is tempting launched by Kawasaki.

Coming back to the video, the statement made by the reviewer " People looking at the upgrade to a Duke 390, this is the bike" is to be very carefully looked at. Major Duke enthusiasts have struggled to shortlist a bike to upgrade and fit in the right shoes with similar traits with correct price point too.

If this is what is to be considered, then the Z650 will be a big success story comparing to the predecessor ER-6n.

Cheers,
Amey

Re: Kawasaki Z650 launched at Rs. 5.19 lakh

I have a few doubts about the price list from the Bangalore dealer. Attaching picture for reference . Why is the ex showroom price in Bangalore 5.25 lakhs? Also isn't the life time tax (LTT) at 18% instead of indicated 19.98%. The dealer however did accept the TCS inclusion was an error.

I have not yet spoken to the dealer about the Ex showroom or LTT charges yet but was hoping to get some inputs if this is normal or if there is scope for reduction

That 19.98% is likely to be the combination of 18% road tax and the 10% cess. The balance amount under the RTO charges is the illegal handling charges. The BMW showroom also does a similar clubbing together of 18% road tax, 10% cess and illegal charges.

Re: Kawasaki Z650 launched at Rs. 5.19 lakh

The bike is truly a great improvment over the last version. Kawasaki shifted from Steel Perimeter frame to trellis frame layout. lower seat height (785 mm) and lower weight (186 kg.) makess it extremely easy for even riders of 5ft 3inch height to ride it comfortably.

New cams, a slimmer air box, smaller Keihin throttle bodies (36 mm vs 38mm on ER6N), new injectors, new transmission, new cooling system has completely transformed how it behaves. You can read one of the detailed reviews here.

Attaching Pune price list as seen at the dealership.

Its a CBU and hence the price. Ninja 1000 when a CBU was also somewhere priced similarly. Its just now that they have come with CKD and the prices have dropped. If they get the Z1000 in CKD prices will drop for that too.

SKD I believe, but yes - you are right. Z1000 is getting a bit old in the lineup now and hence may not be considered for local assembly. Z900 is a lot of bike for the price though, and will mostly bring the numbers home for Kawasaki, even if the Z1000 has better SKD pricing.

That said, did you notice the Versys 1000 is missing in the list?

The Ninja 1000 price drop is due to SKD. I agree with you, the Z1000 has become a little old in the lineup and at Rs 19 Lakhs is not all worth it with no power modes and traction control modes. The GSX S-1000 is a better bike and has a lot to offer.

Z1000R is a better proposition w.r.t Z1000 with Rear Ohlins suspension and Brembo calipers and a good 1.5Kgs lighted over standard version.

Cheers,
Amey
