The Harley-Davidson Street Rod 750. EDIT: Launched @ 5.86 lakhs

Harley Davidson is set to launch a new updated version of the Made In India Street 750 soon. The StreetRod derives its inspiration from the legendary XR1200X which stands apart from the rest of its family members for its performance oriented nature. The StreetRod differs from the Street 750 in the following aspects

- Beefier 43mm USD forks and a reduced rake angle (thus reducing the wheelbase) for improved agility
- Dual discs up front to improve the braking performance (this was always a weak area of the old 750)
- Gas filled rear dual shocks
- Ground Clearance improved from 145 to 205mm thus improving the cornering clearance
- Drag bike styled straight handlebars
- Rider footpegs pulled back by about 3 inches providing a sportier riding stance
- Powered by a High Output Revolution X™ V-Twin producing (claimed) 68.4Bhp and 62Nm Torque
- Completely restyled tail section and various other visual tweaks which makes the StreetRod look more like the XR1200X! And it looks uber awesome!

Launch dates, price and presence of ABS is still unclear. But even as a person who is not much interested in the current Harley Davidson lineup, this is completely mouth watering. I have always regarded the Street 750 to be a gem of an engine stuck in the wrong chassis. And the new StreetRod seems to be ironing out almost all the gripes of the old 750.

re: The Harley-Davidson Street Rod 750. EDIT: Launched @ 5.86 lakhs

So, now they have both a Street 750 and a Street Rod 750 version. That's interesting. The new 2017 Street 750 was retailing at around 6 lakhs the last I found out in December, so I'm guessing the Street Rod version may be selling at a higher premium. I was also informed that the 2017 Street 750 comes with ABS as standard.
Anyway, the Street Rod 750 does look interesting. This is what I was able to get from the Harley Davidson India website:

Compare Bikes _ Harley-Davidson India.pdf

A lot of changes for the better I think and this also gives customers options to choose the kind of Street 750 they need.

That makes the 2 of us, never quite fancied anything in the HD stable but then this bike look absolutely smashing.
Look forward to seeing this on our roads.

re: The Harley-Davidson Street Rod 750. EDIT: Launched @ 5.86 lakhs

So a Harley for non-cruiser lovers. This is the first time I am checking out a Harley in so much detail, and it looks smashing. The specifications look good too.

Hopefully the dual 300 mm discs with ABS have resolved the braking issues. At about 225 Kgs, it is a pretty heavy bike.

The media rides are next week. Will be interesting to read their reviews.

So the 2017 Street 750 will have ABS, but the all-new Street Rod will not have ABS?

Under heavy braking, the forks used to bottom out.

Required. Picture also shows Michelin tyres. The MRF ones don't have much grip. Pairing twin discs with MRF tyres would have been disastrous, I think

Lot of scraping earlier, especially on right turns; not so much on the left.

There was too much weight on the rump while riding. Sportier stance suits the nature of the bike.

Engine was always a gem, though most people were not enthralled by its sound and even the Screaming Eagles didn't make much of a difference. But, in its own right, this engine smoothly blasts away even the bigger ones.

ABS is now standard in Street 750. Has to be there.

Thank God some manufacturer is actually heeding the feedback!

Damn!! was getting my finances arranged considering an approximate hike of 50k. But the lakh hike has me thinking now.

Does the lakh hike justify the changes made to the previous gen 750? The major changes made were suspension, additional disc, abs, tyres and of course the engine internals to increase torque. = 1 lakh?

Hard to tell, unless we know how much the changes mentioned actually improve the power, handling and braking. All these definitely looks good on paper. If the performance lives upto what is there on the sheet, it might be kind of justifiable. And hope HD won't roll this out with MRF Zapper!

re: The Harley-Davidson Street Rod 750. EDIT: Launched @ 5.86 lakhs

This is what the Street 750 should have been when it was launched here. When my friend bought a Street 750 this is how i pictured the bike if it were to be mine.

Wider spec Michelins this time:
120/70 front
and 160/60 in the rear.

Torque is increased to 65NM (up from 59NM)
The engine has a higher compression ratio of 12:1 (up from 11:1).

Wider Michelin Tyres (120/70 front, 160/60 rear) - earlier ones wore MRFs.

The front suspension gets new 43 mm upside down forks and dual shocks in the rear. Both front & rear offer increased travel.
The bike is shorter in length by 85 mm, and the wheelbase has been shrunk by 10 mm.
