Well, the engine capacity is 950cc, more closer to the Z1000 then the Z800. This looks more like a Z1000 replacement. Is it confirmed that the Z800 is going? I don't see the Z1000 surviving either.

Definitely looks like a replacement to the Z1000. I saw the Yamaha FZ-10 and it looks menacing. Dealerships call it a new gen R1 without fairing. So this sounds possible.

I had a very short ride on the Z800 (basically just around the block). My biggest issues were the tall seat (I am only 5"3), top heavy feeling and hard (repeat.. hard) clutch pull. The levers also looked cheap, but you can get cheapie $20 replacement.

Looks like they solved the seat height and weight issue. But I don't see any electronic aids like riding modes, TC which many low end bikes now have. Will further hit the Honda CBR.

https://www.kawasaki.com/ has been updated with all new 2017 N1000, N650, Z900 models. They seem to have not hiked prices for 2017 models.

New 2017 N1000 weighs 234KG when compared to 2016 version that's 231KG.

All new Z900 weighs 210KG compared to Z800 that weighs 231KG

New N650 weighs 193KG when compared to old one that weighs 208 or 211KG.

Pricing in India would depend on source of import. If they import Z900 from Japan, then there is no way it can sit closed to Z800.

AFAIK they are going to manufacture Z900 in Thailand and bring it to India via CBU. Expect prices to go up by around 50K or so.

I test drove the Z800 a couple of months back at Indiranagar, Bangalore. Apart from the short turn radius I loved the bike and was seriously thinking of buying it in the near future. But alas! Why does Kawa have to ditch the Z800?! They might've added a 100cc more to the Z1000 and maybe increased the Z800 to a higher state of tune.

This is more of a midway between the Z800 and the Z1000. And I am not at all liking the looks of this Z900. Maybe it will grow on me. I feel the used market of the Z800 will get dearer now.

Short turning radius coupled with heavy weight were major problem that I felt on Z800.

I am glad they ditched Z800 to make Z900. Z800 was heavy and had a tall seat height. Now they have addressed it in Z900 and have also added a but more power/torque. If they price Z900 near current pricing of Z800, then it will be like sone pe suhaaga :D

New Z900 makes more power, weighs less, easy to ride due to lower weight and lower seat height (~790mm) making it a much better proposition.

I feel Z900 would look stunning in new Pearl Mystic Gray with Metallic Finish.

Just checked the Kawasaki Thailand Website. The Z900 is listed at 399,000 Baht (Roughly 8 lakh Rs.)
The Z800 is priced at 375,000 Baht (Roughly Rs.7.5 lakh).

So hoping for a not-very-high price hike when it is launched in India as well.

If its priced closer to outgoing Z800, all the current 2016 owners might be whimpering in protest, including me.

I almost bought one last weekend, where it completely seduced me with the looks, sound and value pricing whereas I was originally looking at the Versys 650. Same with my better half, who felt that it looked scary to say the least.

Looks a bit plain now. I wouldn't be interested in this one. :Frustrati

If you are planning to wait till 2017 for upcoming N650 or Versys 650, then I would say just wait for this beast Z900, looks apart, it will grow on you. But all the points that you wanted (what your heart says) - power, price, inline4, reduced weight & height, better frame & handling are in Z900. Just think again before you finalize.

Edit: Or even the outgoing Z800 might get cheaper by some 50-70k (the way they did on 2015 model N650) on 2016 models to clear their stocks, which will be steal.

Anyone's got any news on the Z900? There is not a single ride report in google (search was sorted by relevance and time). Really looking forward to this one, seems so much like a finished version of the Z800 :D

I found this on Bike Dekho page from FB.

So, all the discussion on pricing that it's going to be lesser than INR 10L has been blown away with the wind.

At 11 Lakhs Ex showroom Delhi, it is going to be interesting with the entry level Litre class bikes already there like the Speed Triple etc

Hi,

I was planning to buy z-800 but now with z-900 on the horizon, i am bit confused.
Do you think the price would be close to z-800???when is the tentative launch in India??
Thanks in advance

I genuinely don't think Kawasaki will price the Z900 at 11 Lakhs Ex showroom. The current Z1000 is around that price and has a lot more expensive components in it. 1 big factor to Z800 was Horse power to price ratio and I am sure Kawi understands that.

It will definitely be more expensive than the Z800, but in my humble opinion, not by more than lakh ex-showroom maybe. You should definitely wait for the launch.
