Honda Gold Wing GL1800 launched in India

Japanese two-wheeler major Honda has launched the Gold Wing GL1800 touring motorcycle in India. The bike is available in two variants - Gold Wing Audio Comfort and Gold Wing Airbag. The launch comes in the 40th year of the bike, which was first introduced in 1975.

The Gold Wing features a lightweight and rigid twin-spar aluminium frame with a 45 mm cartridge fork front suspension and a single-sided Pro-Arm swingarm at the rear. It is powered by a 1832 cc, 6-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 4-stroke petrol engine mated to a 5-speed transmission. Stopping power is provided by dual disc brakes at the front and a single disc brake at the rear.

The Gold Wing comes equipped with features such as five-position heated grips, independently adjustable heated seats and foot-warming system, panniers with a carrying capacity of over 150 litres, 6-speaker 80W SRS surround sound system, and audio system that plays multiple format music files with iPod, iPhone and USB stick connectivity.

The Gold Wing comes with a slow-speed electric reverse system and an electronic cruise control system. Safety features include Honda’s combined braking system (CBS) and an anti-lock braking system (ABS). The Gold Wing Airbag, as its name suggests, comes with a fully-integrated airbag.

While the Gold Wing Audio Comfort is available in a dual tone red and black colour scheme, the Gold Wing Airbag is available in white.

Prices (ex-showroom, New Delhi):
  • Gold Wing Audio Comfort - Rs. 28.50 lakh
  • Gold Wing Airbag - Rs. 31.50 lakh

Holi Cow !

Dream machines for the new age relaxed driving, I am sure it's going to find takers even at this price point which is way up from the offerings made by other premium bike manufacturing companies in India.

A 100% guaranteed head turner with their sheer presence on the road.

Would love to have one someday !

Re: Honda Gold Wing GL1800 launched in India

This is like a dream machine to own if one can afford it. Would this be sold through the same crowded Honda dealerships or will they create a separate dealership module for this bike?

Hopefully some Tbhpian buys this first and treats us with a ownership report at the earliest.

I would like to sit on the comfortable rear seat . Let the rider take tension of riding in our traffic conditions.

This thing is a bargain when compared to the recently launched Harley Davidson CVO Limited which is 49.9L ex showroom.

Re: Honda Gold Wing GL1800 launched in India

Having owned the previous Generation Goldwing in the family, there was no chance this baby was going to get a miss..so in jan we take delivery of the Goldwing Airbag.

The Goldwing and i talk of the previous gen was a pleasure to ride on the highways, city was not so pleasurable due to the size, but early mornings or late nights was good fun. I actually felt like i was sitting in a car, comfortable seating, nice riding position and extremely easy to ride. If someone has the money and wants a cruiser, look no further than the Goldwing.

Having ridden in a Gold Wing long time ago on a Colleagues Gold Wing, it is a great bike (or car )
In India, you can have driver and can sit in the rear seat. If they can add a hydraulic lift 3rd wheel, you could easily drive one in the City

Re: Honda Gold Wing GL1800 launched in India

Holy cow!
That bike looks like one of those chariots of them Gods with the rider doing its duty as a biker chauffeur! Just need to get a set of bow and arrow and voila!

I am more of a car guy but this bike has my attention. What a beauty!
This bike can be ridden for very long solo bike tours without breaking a sweat. That rear seat should be allowed to be detached and to it take home; looks that comfy. Also, the price is reasonable, if not expensive, compared to the rivals from a similar category.

P.S. (a bit off-topic) I used to steal this bike in GTA San-Andreas whenever I would get a chance too!

Re: Honda Gold Wing GL1800 launched in India

Don't see this selling at all. It's just too expensive to buy, let alone the running cost.

People will buy Harley's for 18 lakh because of the sheer brand pull and cult status. HOG does organise good rides.

But does Honda have the brand pull in this segment? Nope. (Not in the cruiser segment)
Selling a sportsbike like the CBR1000RR? Yes, Honda's got the brand pull for the sports bike.

For 30 lakh INR(ex-showroom), just buy a car and use it. If you want speed(which this bike it not exactly meant for), buy an Octavia TSI. Buy a Fortuner for off-road use.

^^^ Or buy 15 Nanos and have a fleet! Or buy 40 Honda Unicorns and use a new one every week! Or put in FD and earn 3L Rs income every year.

Or better, live your dream

Re: Honda Gold Wing GL1800 launched in India

Am not much of a biker, having almost stopped riding a bike since 7 years, due to an accident while riding one just before another accident named marriage

Two things struck me:

1: It's looker. I don't give much attention to bike threads. Just a picture got my attention.

2: It's way too pricey, not sure about the ride quality and other aspects.

Hope to see a ownership report soon..

Re: Honda Gold Wing GL1800 launched in India

At this segment (Luxo-Touring) its only BMW 1600 GTL and Honda Goldwing. While the BMW 1600 is north of 45 lakh, this one is a no brainer at this offering. I have booked a GTL 1600 as my ride during the course of my stay in California, and back home, this is the one ! I'm now saved from the dilemma of bringing back the GTL 1600 on transfer of residence. This bike does not compare with the HD Electra Glide. These are different segments, but it does teach and beat HD CBUs hollow when it comes to the luxo badge and the pricing (Even in US markets its just GTL 1600 v/s GW 1800 with Electra glides out of the equation). I can confidently say (though an expensive CBU), it is the best luxo-touring pick in India now. Hope sense prevails on the beemer group and GTL prices are adjusted accordingly. Why could they not do a CKD

India needs to get more of these (and not limited to so-called-elite touring riders pockets)

Re: Honda Gold Wing GL1800 launched in India

That’s one hell of a “bike?”. It has to be seen how Honda plans the maintenance and support of this thing. Being a touring “bike?” by gene, it needs a solid support chain across the country. Taking to a local mechanic is obviously out of question. If I had enough money, I would have waited for some time to see how the support evolves. If I had hell lot of money, I would have booked one already

Re: Honda Gold Wing GL1800 launched in India

We have a silver one in the city since 2010 which is rarely seen on the streets. The quad exhausts, the twin antennas and the multiple tail lights are a quite a sight. Couple it with those huge headlamps and extra long wheelbase, the GW is a limousine of bikes. The Harleys in our city look tame in front of this monster.

OT: This bike seems to have a ting of previous gen Accord and Civic in its styling.
