This may not be the correct thread but could anyone clarify if a Left hand drive can be registered in Bangalore/Karnataka. I happened to see a Merc E Class estate (very new) with KA-53 registration having left hand drive and it also had a sticker at the back saying so. It was not a special car in terms of being for handicapped/diplomat etc etc. Sadly couldnt take a picture of it. I thought one could not register LHD cars in India anymore!! Also it had white board plates..

I saw that in Koramangala on Friday, I wasn't sure because I saw it in a flash, I guess it's one those test cars brought in for R&D. On a lighter note, left hand drive isn't a handicap in Bangalore as all the overtaking happens that way nowadays. Was it a brown one by any chance?

If you check Zauba it will say the car will be re-exported. So probably here on test of some sort.

I saw a dark blue/black a month back i guess in JP nagar. May be the same.

A friend who works for Merc. India just told me that the Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) department of the company got a LHD Estate in Dark Brown colour for R&D purposes.

Yes its a brown one.If its going back shouldn't it be wearing TR plates? Just curious..

Saw this over the weekend driving back from Coorg to BLR on Mysore road. Had the same question in mind- isnt it illegal to have newer gen LHD's now?

The vehicle is parked at the Sundaram Motors Stockyard next to hoodi junction (along with some other hotties). If I'm right it does run on TR plates (red with TR written followed by the registration serial number) and has a massive Left Hand Drive sticker on the rear.

The E63AMG estate would be nice to have in India.
