Yeah, porsche has too many options to keep even the punters zapped.

LOL yep.

Found a way to settle this.
We take the black C2s and the "4" for a few laps each, and let the "seat of pant" feeling decide. Haha ! Final test would be a drag. Cleaner one off the line is the 4.

Now I'm inclined to think that its a base Carrera Cabriolet with 4S badging!

@ Suhaas Compare the pic of the genuine Targa 4 with the controversial car.The angles of the snaps are more or less the same. Now,pay attention to the wing mirrors.A lil' closer look reveals that in the controversial Carrera the mirrors clearly stick out of the car, while in the Targa 4,the mirrors don't! Its the wider rear haunches of the 4 that stick out instead. She's clearly got a fatter rear than the 4S poser! Again,I could be wrong.

EDIT:Regarding the fatter tires, the owner might have up-sized,as mentioned before!

Yup, the '4' would not only start cleanly of the line, it would probably bog down due to the 4WD. The C2 and the C2S would be a lot more tail happy. But I must add that the Cabriolet and the Targa wouldn't perform as well as a Carrera on the track, largely due to the rigidity that's lost along with the roof. The Targa, surprisingly, has lower rigidity than the Cabriolet and is the most un-911 Porsche 911 (In terms of road-track behaviour)

I've said this before and I'm not going to hesitate to say it again, you've got a great eye for detail, Ayan. You're bang on target there. Nail on the head. Looks like the badge is a mere add-on. SO we have a base Carrera Cabriolet with 4S badging. It's quite depressing that someone would do this to a Porsche 911.

Infractions: 0/2 (9)

there is a beautiful Jet Black VW Phaeton at the VW Showroom on Magrath Road.
Owned it seems by the MD/Owner of the dealership.
really lovely black car - very understated and elegant
didnt take a pic of it though as it seemed impolite while visiting the showroom.

That wont always work. Many people dont name the car in the post.

They just post the pics and say "Spotted this beauty" or something similar.

See the bright side.It makes things more interesting for people like us dude! .He's also go the right model to play with.Cabriolet means experts can't point out the missing rear wash/wipe on the base Carrera, and the 997 Type I which didn't come with that trademark reflector strip running the entire length of the rear on the 4S,unlike the new 997 Type II!

You've been reading up on Porsches, haven't you?

You're right! The Mark-I '4' and '4S' didn't come with that reflector strip that differentiates the C2 from the C4. This little feature was given a skip only on the 997-I. But despite all the controversial badges on the car, it's still a very good looking 997 Cabriolet. I'm glad that the owner ticked a few right boxes in the options list like that fabulous interior and those incredibly good looking SportDesign wheels.

Not really, and that applies to all cars. Not only Porsches in particular! Do a bit of reading regarding the tech specs, but as far as visual cues are concerned a good look is enough!
