I have seen one nicely maintained Rover 2000 (imported, not the locally made Standard 2000) in Chennai with a V-, dual-carburettor petrol engine, TN registered. The sound of that engine ....sweet music

Re: Supercars & Imports : Chennai

ajmat, good question --- and it was a tantalisingly brief glimpse. It was in very good condition. Dark, maybe black, with really shiny chrome.

I am not an ace recogniser of cars, but I don't think I ever saw anything like this one here in Chennai. Perhaps Blue Thunder has the clue.

Re: Supercars & Imports : Chennai

TTK Road is a good place if you want to spot supercars and imports on weekends. I saw the latest maroon Gallardo in Chennai around 9:50pm headed towards the flyover. Was in my car and didn't feel like turning around and going to have a good look. He would have roared off

The one you are talking about was the silver Rover V8 S - a luxury version of the Rover 3500 SD1. Reg No was TML 1 or similar. Belonged to SPIC> It was on sale in Tirupur, I think quite sometime back. I think it has disappeared, must be sold

Re: Supercars & Imports : Chennai

This one was probably black. I didn't take in the reg, but I think Blue Thunder has the right vehicle in mind.

A V8 3500? Wow! That would be quite something. Although cc of yesteryear does not at all compare with cc of today of course.

I wonder what model[s] it was that the UK police used to use.

Re: Supercars & Imports : Chennai

I was driving in Gopalapuram when i saw a Lamborghini (Aventador I think) in a brilliant Maroon Color. There was no registration plate. Before i could click a clear picture, it sped away. Hence excuse the poor quality of the picture.

There used to be two mechanics, Chickey and Vernon - they were brothers. Nice helpful blokes. Are they still lurking about at Electra?
Actually Chickey and Vernon have quit and are now with Hi REV Automotive in Vadapalani Chennai. They are good guys. I regularly send my CIvic for part replacements to their garage.

Had two bitter experiences in Electra after Krupesh left. Stopped going there soon after. Story for another day!

That would be the Lamborghini Gallardo in a limited edition color. Rosso Leto IIRC.

That silver SD1 you referred was 'TMS 1'. Belonged to or used by the Chairman of Ashok Leyland and was seen often in the Boat Club / RA Puram area in the later 80s'.
