Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 to be launched on March 17

Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch its flagship roadster, the Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series in India on March 17.

The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 made its global debut last year. It is the most exclusive and luxurious version of the Mercedes-AMG SL 63, which means it gets a tonne of chrome on the outside and a premium cabin.

The Maybach SL 680 features a bespoke chrome grille, sweptback LED headlamps with rose-gold inserts and classy multi-spoke alloy wheels. Other details include chrome inserts on the bumpers and side skirts and chrome exhaust tips. The car has a fabric roof and a black bonnet featuring Maybach logos all over.

While the interior layout is similar to the standard SL, the Maybach SL 680 gets a 2-tone cabin with white and black leather, a 3-spoke steering wheel, a vertically-oriented touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster with bespoke graphics.

Under the hood is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces 577 BHP and 800 Nm. It is paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox, which sends power to all four wheels via a 4Matic all-wheel drive system. Mercedes claims that the SL 680 can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 260 km/h. The car also gets slightly tweaked suspension and rear-axle steering.

The specs are great, interiors must be all nice (but white??) and build quality must be solid but I just can't go past the confused styling. That confusing Aston / Fordish front and a Porsche like rear just makes this thing look like a design experiment gone all wrong.

Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series launched in India

Mercedes-Benz has launched the most exclusive and luxurious version of the AMG SL 63, the Monogram Series, in India. The premium open-top 2-seater is priced at Rs 4.2 crore (ex-showroom). Deliveries will begin in Q1 2026.

Looks like a PR exercise but have to give full marks to MB India to offer Indian customers most of their updated models.

Even single-digit sales for such models should help create a brand image and pull customers to the brand.
