Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance India launch on November 12. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 1.95 crore

Mercedes-Benz plans to launch the new AMG C63 S E Performance in India on November 12.

The new C63 S E Performance is powered by the world’s most powerful 4-cylinder engine. Unlike the previous generation, which had a 4.0-litre V8, the new model packs a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain produces 670 BHP and 1020 Nm, which is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission and the 4Matic all-wheel drive system. Mercedes claims a 0-100 km/h time of 3.3 seconds and can cover 13 km in electric mode.

Being an AMG, the C 63 S E Performance looks muscular compared to the standard C-Class. It is also wider and longer than the regular model. It features a Panamericana grille at the front with sporty bumpers at both ends and 19-inch or 20-inch wheels.

The interior, though, is similar to the standard car, except for the AMG-specific 3-spoke steering wheel and other sporty bits.

I was of the impression that Mercedes pulled the plug on this one owing to poor (read Zero) sales. What changed now?

They are probably dumping the leftover stock in India to clear it off—like the Nissan X-Trail. I wish and want that this comes too hard on Mercedes India that not even 1 unit should sell. None of the manufacturers should take India for granted, even if it is a low-volume market for premium/luxury brands.

At this point, Benz may as well leave the engine out and add another motors.
Well, if not anything else, thats a very fast moving beautiful looking fridge!
C63 moniker down in the dirt. Thanks Benz.

True.

But guess Merc knows their customers. They will bring in enough units that will be grabbed by those, "who want the latest highest model for bragging rights whatsoever", so they can say all the allocated units have been sold off.

This is supposed to be a true enthusiast sports model, even by global standards. One of the main reasons it was axed is the 2l engine for such an expensive proposition and options available from the competition. For a true sports sedan costing >1.6cr ONR (expected price), IMO, a 2L engine is not a good thing to brag about. Even otherwise, the prospects (in India) for this, most likely will have the update about why it was axed globally. All in all, it may be a hard sell for Mercedes. Anyway let's wait and watch.

re: Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance India launch on November 12. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 1.95 crore

They better price is right, for two reasons:

1. It's a freaking 4 cylinder and has been cancelled by the west. Yes it's quick but lacks what the 63 AMG buyer really wants. You could get some takers who only have a need for speed to buy this, if priced right.

2. The market is tough currently and this segment of sports cars are dying. Just like the D segment in Indian sedans grew the market in the 2000s for over a decade, the segment has now died due to the lack of demand since most prefer to jump straight to the higher luxury segments.
Similarly this segment of sports cars in the 1-1.5cr price band paved way for the 2cr+ segment which is now thriving. But I think this is the sweet spot for the sport car industry to grow and not get too high headed as it currently is. Hope others follow suit and revive this segment of sports cars which are reasonably more attainable.

re: Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance India launch on November 12. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 1.95 crore

What a disappointment. They ruined the name of the model itself (Which was derived from the 6.3L V8 of the W204 gen). First the lower displacement of the previous gen and now this. Just because it's called a C63 won't give it the growl and driver engagement of the original 6.3L V8. Brands probably don't understand all this because they don't care anymore given that dummies are paying money for literally anything being sold in the market today.

Porsche/BMW/Audi/Ferrari/Lamborghini etc. is the same story! They moved to ultra large dimensions, long wheelbases, feel-less electric steerings, auto gearboxes (mostly), too many intrusive electronic aids, missing hand brakes, higher shoulder lines, ugly alien like designs (In the name of being 'futuristic'), missing analog controls, Chinese touchscreens and panels instead of real clusters to name a few big compromises.

They end up saving huge by compromising on all these fronts, however, the prices are at an all time high, not just in India, but even abroad (relatively). The profit margins are skyrocketing and no one wants to oppose the change. I'm strictly against adoption of the newer cars with so many failure points and not able to move on to vehicles past the 2012 model year for this very reason. Can't really ruin my eyes with those screens in front of my eyes all the time, not to mention the missing aircon controls which would distract me every-time I'm driving. I'm happy with the tactile feedback of buttons on all my cars.

The current build quality and cost cutting of these automakers really concerns me. I mean now even Toyotas have issues as bad as that of German automakers because Engines are being pushed too hard for their tiny size and displacement. Magazines and YouTube reviews further fool the customers into thinking that they saw a 'Review' not realizing how everything is 'sponsored' these days. I wonder what would one buy if they wanted to go in for a new car

This car is like a BMW M3, but with a supercharged 330i engine that’s been remapped and has electric motors. Mercedes totally ruined the 63 AMG name with this ridiculous car. Usually, the 63 AMG’s are owned by super rich car enthusiasts, but they can’t even sell a single one with this engine.

I feel Mercedes will price it around 1.69-1.89 ex-showroom mark, as currently the A45S is around 110 ex (with needed options) and the newly launched C43 ePerformance was 115 ex (fully loaded). I am really pissed that Merc has single handedly pushed the pricing envelope and all brands followed suit but only Merc has been able to keep moving inventory of the >1cr bracket. This is an inconsequential car in the grand scheme and I feel <10 will ever get sold and even that is a aggressive number considering it's been a sales failure abroad. And due to it's length it won't qualify for the sub 4 mt, 2000cc subsidies.

re: Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance India launch on November 12. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 1.95 crore

Compared to the previous C63 S, this is a downer. However, some points to ponder
  1. Euro manufacturers are under pressure with regard to emissions
  2. Other than price, no one really pans the new C43 compared to its predecessor the 6 cyl C43. It is regarded as quite well balanced.
  3. The millstone around new C63's neck is its weight. Additionally, peak performance comes from battery boost.
  4. If the C63 had been a mild hybrid 6 cyl, it might have worked.

Downsizing from 8cyl to 6cyl, or 6 to 4 is easier than 8cyl to 4 cyl. The BMW M3 remained strong. From a technology standpoint, the new C63 S is pretty good but this is at the expense of the emotion and tactility of what buyers would want. Mercedes failed to capitalize on that.

Sometimes, one tries something radical but it does not work.

re: Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance India launch on November 12. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 1.95 crore

Mercedes has launched the new AMG C63 S E-Performance at ₹1.95 crores (ex-showroom).

That’s insanely expensive for a car with a four-pot motor IMO, regardless of how fast it is. Sad to see AMG’s legacy of shoehorning truck-sized engines into regular sedans being desecrated like this .

re: Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance India launch on November 12. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 1.95 crore

Wow! Suddenly the new G63 looks so much value for money.

Looks like someone responsible for pricing at MB India, took the prices of M4 CS as a reference and kept MB India's tradition of being more expensive than BMW.

This must be the dumbest launch by MB India ever, not just because the product is a failure but also highest and most irrelevant prices

Wow, such an obnoxious pricing for a 2L engine?

I wish we Indians were/are smart and strong enough to choose what we want instead of what we get.

Re: Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance India launch on November 12. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 1.95 crore

Why spend ₹2 crore on a 2.0L AMG when the M340i offers half the power for half the price! And a M340i is more than enough for Indian Roads.

What discounts will Mercedes-Benz offer to clear the stocks? 50L?
