I had found this rare 4 door Nissan Skyline R32 in Gurgaon 11 years ago and had posted it then.

Re: The Rare Cars of India - Imports you didn't know existed here

Fantastic find and thanks for this wonderful thread.

I admit that am actually seeing few of the cars listed in the thread for very first time in my life!

One Polaris slingshot was there in Bobby Chemmannur (Kerala) garage for long time, with his Chemmannur Group logo pasted on it. Not sure whether that was a temporary import or he owns it here locally.

I know of a few 300ZX's in India (Related Thread (Pics : Gray / Yellow Nissan Fairlady 300ZX). There is also a Dodge Challenger from JH.

Superb thread, Chirag ! I was delighted to learn that an example of the Z4M Coupe, one of my all-time favourite cars, made it to our shores!

I'm surprised that GS's Ariel Atom didn't make the cut. Here are a few pictures of the unicorn that I clicked at the MMRT in 2010. Is this car still here? Also, were there any other Atoms imported into the country?

Cheers!

Re: The Rare Cars of India - Imports you didn't know existed here

Always meant to share these but never got round to it.

About May 2016 I was back home working an internship. I was always curious to spot a blue Mazda 3 (correct me if I'm wrong) sedan in the underground parking lot next to all the other office folks cars. This was at Acropolis Mall. At the time parking hadn't opened up for the mall part itself so all the cars were for folks who worked presumably in the office block part of the complex.

I'm a Huge fan of Mazda's Kodo design language and though this is an iteration too early before that kicked in proper, I'm fascinated to know who ran this. I think it had WB plates as well IIRC.

There’s a Plymouth Prowler in an exalted collection in Mumbai that definitely deserves to be on this list.

Thank you for this thread. Got to see some lovely cars . I personally loved the BMW E21, the BMW Z4 and The Holden Commodore.
The Ford F150 Special Ops was for me the showstopper, surprising that no Hummer was spotted or mentioned
The surprise was the Chrysler Crossfire and the Smart Roadster

Thanks again

There also is a Rare Mazda near Lansdowne Garage. Had spotted it about an year back. Don't know if it's still there though

Had come across this Mazda 3 on Instagram long back. Seems there are 2 of them!

Re: The Rare Cars of India - Imports you didn't know existed here

Glad to see so many Honda's on the list, my idea of Japanese cars was limited to them being reliable workhorses but this really changed my opinion for the better of course.

Ah thanks - I have a hazy recollection of this. Next time I'm visiting my parents I'll try to keep my fingers crossed I spot this other Mazda too.

The caption on the screenshot is spot on, I'd comfortably bet that Mazda 3's, especially that older gen, are quite a bit rarer than a Lamborghini.

Overall this is a great thread! It's wonderful to see how many peculiar and random cars there are dotted around India. Good repository to have on a petrolhead forum such as this. Reminds me of how my parents always regretted now bringing our Mk 2 Golf back with them when we moved to Calcutta. That would've been such a rarity. I do remember at the time (very early 2000s), at my school there being a fair few of these imports by expats and NRIs and such. I wish I could remember them all but my memory is hazy and I don't have photos to hand.

A Kolkata based importer had brought in a few units of the Mazda 3 and Mazda BT50 pick-up truck back in 2012-13 IIRC. These cars didn't find buyers initially so all these cars were registered in WB by the importer. However, it seems later these cars made their way to some other cities as well.

There is a Mazda BT50 in Bangalore with a prominent collector, not sure if it was a private import or bought from this importer.
