The main reason cud be that they are cheaper that way.
Expensive imported cars are very very unlilkey to be stopped and inspected by a traffic cop. Also people who buy such cars have good contacts and can easily get away even if they are caught.
Also it cud be that the vehicle papers are clean (illegally) and theres no way the prospective owner can know whether the car is a stolen/accident one.
One more reason could be Brand (oops sorry)........ Dealer Loyalty

hmm... dealer loyalty

does the dealer help, if the car is caught or anything?

If there is no proof (as in papers) that he (the dealer) has sold the car, then he will obviously wash his hands off the whole scene.

I remember watching a programme on Top Gear many years ago - the Quintin Wilsons years actually, where they did a follow up on this racket. Apparently, one dude found his stolen Vauxhal Frontera in Pakistan. This has been going on for years now...shiploads of stolen cars and SUV's make their way over to ports in Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and ofcourse India.

If someone buys a stolen car, whether he knows it was stolen or not has no consequence. At best he will lose his car without any compensation, and at worse he can be put in jail.

This holds good for stolen indian cars as well.

If you think about it, the chances of a stolen imported car being found over here would be much less than a stolen indian car, who's owners have lodged a complaint with the local police.

dude! come one someone who buys a 20/30/50/80 lac car, isnt any small fry, cops never stop these cars because they know no small timer can afford this kinda stuff!

it's difficult to crackdown, on this though its a reallly big international racket,

So why does the X5 exist when we have the X3?? Its quick (enough), has the same features, and the same dimensions (right?)... and its tons of fun to drive... and it costs less. So how come the X5s doing the rounds instead of the X3??
