This is not the latest aluminium bodied one. The new one has twin wipers hidden under the bonnet and the indicators are in the headlights. They look very similar - well, Jags have that feline appeal

mere badge engineering - daimlers have vertical grid like grills - used for more plush versions. Jags are more sporty. Daimler brand is almost defunct

In the 1960's Jag took over Daimler, the only unique car after that was the Daimler limo built till late 1990's - based on the Jag 420

The XJ pictured above is the old X300, produced between 1994 and 1997. This was replaced by the X308 which ran on till 2003. The X350 is the current model - aluminium baby. It's strongly built and fast. The best part is that because it weighs just over 1600kgs (lesser than the smaller S Type), it's fuel efficiency has improved by leaps and bounds and it's exempted from the gas guzzler tax in certain countries.

Jaguar says, they have not killed the Daimler brand completely. It'll be reintroduced when they build a vehicle that's significantly better than the XJ. How they are gonna manage this, I do not know. They recently displayed a long wheelbase version of the XJ called the Concept 8 . That's what i call a "knock out" car.

It's my dream to own an XJ someday.

I am still confused. Wasnt Daimler the brand of only Daimler-Benz? How did Jaguar get to use the name too?

What Jaguar bought in the 1960s was The British Daimler Co. - the British arm of Gottlieb Daimler's car manufacturing firm. That's how they got to use the "Daimler" name. Daimler, Germany's cars were called Mercedes. When they merged with Benz, the cars came to be known as Mercedes Benz while the company was Daimler Benz.
