Does anybody remember the Mercedes-Benz MB100D and 140D? Those bread-boxes on wheels which were built like bread-boxes on wheels and yet carried the three-pointed star? Those two vans filled a niche in DaimlerChrysler's Indian portfolio but did not deliver on the experience Mercedes-Benz vehicles usually promise – that's because they were essentially badge-engineered Ssangyongs built in Korea.
Still, DaimlerChrysler tasted blood with the 100D and 140D in India, which opened up a new automobile segment in the country for them. A segment for which they now have a new, more capable, friendly, enjoyable and safe product – and it's even built like a Mercedes. It's the Viano, which made an international debut in 2001.

Currently, a long-wheelbase Viano 2.2 CDI is making its rounds in the country and is being shown to prospective customers for their opinions. Business Standard Motoring managed to scoop this possible new launch from DaimlerChrysler and we even have a driving impression for you.

These would be really good for making long trips but still I wouldnt wanna own them..much rather get the Infiniti's Qx56 which is one awesome hunk of a car...more luxurious than you can imagine and spacious as hell..even the 3rd row has as mich room as the CRV's back seats.. anyhow..

This looks much better than the ones I have seen before on road..

cheers

I saw some corporates use these vans to pick up their executives. Good idea to give your employs MB treatment.

If Mercedes gets that they can kick their image bye-bye.

No, i am not saying that Merc could do w/o a van, but they definitely could do w/o the Viano. It is worldwide the most under-rated Mercedes product, and for a good reason. Its barely reliable and features at the bottom of all JD power surveys. Numbers like 143rd on a list of 156 don't do your brand image any good.

DCIL save yourself!!!

As a van it does the job, not as a car

That is the van Mercedes replaced with the Viano.
It was the V series.
Was really cool but could be broken into in 5 minutes flat (We have experienced it in France).
Guys, shouldn't this thread be deleted or started on the V series as there is already one in the indiancar scene with pictures.

Well we wont be suprise if we see a few of these vans at the airports or some of the tourist destinations.Have seen many 100d and 140ds at the airport sporting yellow tourist number plates,so its just a matter of few months you may find the Viano been run by the fleet operators.
Cheers.....

The MB 100D and 140D are used to ferry students of the Mercedes Benz school in Hinjewadi Pune. More of a school bus to be precise.
