Nissan draws outline of Indian map by drifting a GT-R on soil

As a part of its Republic Day celebrations, Nissan has drawn an outline of the Indian map by drifting the GT-R sports car on the dry surface of Sambhar Lake in Rajasthan. The company is claiming that the 3 km long map outline is the largest-ever map of a country in the world and is hoping to enter the Limca Book of Records for the same.

The company recorded the entire attempt through drone cameras. Nissan specially chose Sambhar Lake in Rajasthan to be the location for this record attempt as it has got a dry lakebed surface and soft soil, which helps in leaving a deep impression, which can then be captured by drone cameras.

For the attempt, Nissan used a red GT-R, which was being driven by professional rally driver Rahul Kanthraj. In order to make sure that the etched outline is accurate, Nissan had plotted the coordinates on a GPS device. Moreover, multiple laps were done in order to ensure precision. The final map is about 3 km in length and 2.8 km in width. It has a total outline periphery of 14.7 km.

The company had invited officials from the Limca Book of Records to be present during the record attempt and validate the process. Nissan is hoping that the attempt is listed in the 2018 edition of the Limca Book of Records, which is expected to be published in June 2018.

Does the above disclaimer mean that the map shown in photo/video is computer generated? If yes then where is the actual photo/footage?

Dunno if it's type error, or if it is for real.

I though the GT-R had an AWD system, that was RWD biased, and the rear transaxle would transfer the power to the front tyres. It would at best give 50:50 ratio.

But the text in the video shows otherwise.

Looks like someone mixed up the Weight distribution with the power distribution

"Creative representation" is all the funky drifting stuff with mud flying everywhere. In making the actual map, all that drifting/wheel turning /back coming out did not happen as shown in the video.

Since it is in Limca book of records, we can assume the actual map was made by the car. But it is unlikely this was done in a single shot and perhaps they removed other tyre marks from the 'map'.

Precisely. The amount of work that goes into those gymkhana videos by ken is insane for example and that's with a stripped out car made for it. Here they just have a stock car and not even proper tarmac.

Cinematography in the end might have been taken from the original video tho. Editing left me majorly disappointing but I won't knock them much because it was done for such a good reason. If even couple gtr fans turned on their ipad's or pc's to see our history just because of this, I think that's all that is important.
