Very disappointing to see such a beauty in shambles. Why couldnt the owner give it for free to someone who would keep her well

Wonder when will the owners of these abandoned / rotting cars join Team-BHP and put up a post like this (The Giveaway Thread: Post up anything you want to give away FREE to a fellow BHPian).

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

Even if the car is given away for free, the benefactor might not be able to afford the repair and upkeep of these cars even if he's an enthusiast. As for the original owner, he has the financial might to do the needful but he isn't an enthusiast. These cars are complex and can't be worked upon with out the right set of tools. As for the parts, it's mostly replace rather than repair which make the whole proposition very expensive.

There is a saying in my local language. If you buy a horse for Rs. 6 and then buy horse feed for Rs. 9, then you are a fool.

I think the difference is that the Astra is in working condition. Guess we will see a lot more Merc diesels when the 15 year diesel ban kicks in.

Why can't he just sell it off. Even if there are any major issues, do a proper wash and detailing and it would fetch him atleast 15-20 Lakhs. Why let it rot on the streets. Isn't this just like throwing 20 lakhs in a river!!

I doubt it would fetch him such a figure. In most such cases, the cost of repair is usually higher than the market value of the car which is why they don't have takers. The way out is this car could sold off for its spares and as a scrap. If the owner is a rich and busy guy, he wouldn't bother about an old non-functional car with a huge pending repair bill (remember, he's not an enthusiast). The car just rots away.

Just starting to gather dust and leaves and people's names on the glasses - this Ford Tourneo seems to be sitting idle at one place. Wonder what would be the price of these vans in the used cars market.Pics: Imports gathering dust in India-ford-tourneo.jpg

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

I see this Mercedes inch closer to death day by day. I wish someone restores it to its original beauty.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

Apparently there are (or were) 2 Tourneo's for sale in Mumbai - HP registered and another CC registered consulate car. Pics of both these Tourneo's seem to have been taken at the same place. But they have different registration numbers. Could be jhol (Beware: Fake registration numbers on Imported Cars (proof on Pg 3)).

There are 2 more that I have seen - MH registered and another CC registered (same consulate but different registration number). I won't be surprised if all 4 are the same car.

The Tourneo in the first post has black wing mirrors. On the other hand, the two Tourneos' in the later post have body colored wing mirrors.

So there are multiple vehicles being discussed here. That is, if there is no jhol happening.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

Facelifted W221 S Class. This probably is a pic from last year so not sure what's the condition as of today. There also seems to be a flag post hole on the front fender - but it may be dust.

In this pic, the tires seem to be inflated, which may indicate that this car hasn't been parked since long. Perhaps some minor repairs only needed. Of course if this pic is from last year, things may have changed now.
