Hyderabad to Delhi

I am planning for a trip to Delhi in January.
Is the route from Nagpur to Agra via Betul is better than Jabalpur- Katna and Jhansi.
Is it safe to drive to drive between Nagpur and Bhopal in the night as I am planning to start from Hyderabad in the afternoon.

Re: Hyderabad to Delhi

Via Betul:
Betul-Bhopal sector supposed to be bad.
Biaora-Guna-Shivpuri-Gwalior section on NH3 bad, unless repaired in last 30 days.

Via Jabalpur:
Jabalpur-Katni section bad
Jhansi-Gwalior section still has some bad sections thanks to road widening work.

Route via Jabalpur means you can sample either or all of Kanha (detour)/Bandhavgarh (detour) or Khajuraho.

Nagpur & Bhopal - no safety issues at night.

Re: Hyderabad to Delhi

@ Gajadonga, think you shouldn't be bothered much abt safety issues , going by your id name

Reagrding the route, did this stretch during May 2010 from Delhi to Hyderabad. The route that you plan to take was decent when we drove through it. Parts of the drive was infested with slow moving trucks. Evenings were the time when they all seemd to get on the road.

Otherwise a superb drive. Go by Mr. HVK's advice. Seldom fails. I did, when i went for the drive.

All the best and drive safe. Update us on the status, once you do it.

Any updates on the Delhi - Nagpur section? A friend and a fellow TBHPian - "Mobike008" is planning to drive through Nagpur tomorrow.

Re: Hyderabad to Delhi

Hyderabad - Kamareddi is four laned.
Kamareddi-Armur road is dual carriage lots of deviations
Armur-Kelapur is four laned
Kelapur-Hingaghat one side of four lane opened with deviations
Hingaghat-Nagpur four laned
Nagpur-Betul good road
Betul-Obaidullaganj average roads some stretches are bad rubbled roads, single lane small bridges, lot of curves but drivable
Obaidullaganj-Bhopal good roads
Bhopal-Biora roads are in good condition
Biora-Gwalior Heavy lorry traffic road surface not good.Guna has a toll Bypass which is good.
Crossing Gwalior bypass was bad still paid the toll charges for a poor bypass.
Gwalior-Agra four lane work in progress drivable
Agra -Delhi four lane lots of traffic and wrong side driving by Trailor tractors.
Faridabad does not have a bypass for such a huge volume of traffic.

Re: Hyderabad to Delhi

No Idea Irish.
As the N-S corridor is still under progress in this section did not want to take chances in this Nagpur-Sagar-Jhansi route.
I preffered Nagpur-Bhopal-Biora-Shivpuri-Gwalior route.

Bhopal to Gwalior took about 8.30hrs.It is a National highway but a lot of traffic and the road surface is not that good to maintain speeds.
I drove from Hyd- Agra for my first stop.
Hyd-Bhopal around 850kms and from there to Gwalior around 430kms
I travelled in a Sedan (Verna)
The bad stretch would be from Betul to Obaidullaganj otherwise most of the roads are good.

Thanks for the details. you guys drove directly till Agra from hyderabad, that would have been very tiring. hope you were not the only one driving.
We have to go to Gwalior in April, though we have booked train tickets, just wondering if I can do it in the car with a stopover at bhopal.

Re: Hyderabad to Delhi

We had some sleep inbetween to reach Agra.
If you want to stopover about 35kms before Bhopal you have this place called Bhimbetka Caves and MP tourism has occomodation there.
Ranjith1 stayed there on his last visit.I landed at this place around 5am and I could not wakeup any one here as they were fast asleep in this morning hours so continued my drive..
