Yes Pondy 495, Mailam 508, Villupuram 510, Tiruvannamalai 368, Tindivanam 370 has been the carnage south of us.

Thankfully rains have stopped at these stations as of this evening.

Hello there,

I am planning to drive to coimbatore this morning. Given the rain situation is it wise to take the villupuram attur route or would you recommend the vellore krishnagiri route. Google maps indicate a flood warning for ginger river. Thanks.

Heard the onward towards Villupuram is diverted on a single lane (not sure)

Started yesterday night to Chennai. Solid drizzle throughout. Due to Villupuram- vikravandi road damage , vehicles are diverted at Madapattu ( after Parikkal) to Thirukovilur - Thirvuvanamalai - Ginjee- Tindivanam. The detour roads are really good

I see no disruption of traffic as of today .

Bulk of the rains fell roughly in a 24 hour period though in many cases the numbers were split into two days due to the 6 AM cut off for rainfall numbers. For example in the case of Villupuram it received almost 30 cms by Noon on 1st December which was counted against the 2nd December rainfall.Heavy rains started for Pondy and surrounding areas only after 6 PM and gradually pushed in land into Villupuram district from there on.

Re: Traffic and life on the roads in Chennai

Drove in the city this weekend for the first time in 6 weeks or so. I've begun to really hate driving here nowadays because of a few unsavoury auto and cab drivers (and the occasional entitled personal car driver) with no road manners, aggressively cutting people off, even brake checking if you honk to express concern at being pushed into the median. It's a completely different scenario where I've been staying out in the ECR (where I look forward to every day I get to drive my car!). It is definitely better than it was a year or so ago, there are only a few such individuals nowadays, but they totally ruin the experience for me. I don't like confrontation, I don't think 80-90% of road users do, but these people seem to get a high off of being rude and aggressive!

How do you put up with such road users? I tried just letting them pass whenever I see them, but if you give them even a little bit of space more than usual, they seem determined to pass no matter what, even risking a collision. It only started becoming a noticeable stressor for me once I calmed down and started driving slower after staying overseas for a couple of years.

I'm considering stopping driving in the city altogether and just hiring a chaffeur when I am able to afford it. I'd rather save my energy to do the things that are actually worth it. What do you all think?
