This is correct. Tomorrow being friday, traffic could be little less at Hebbal circle. But otherwise, it will be a total mess there.

Alternate route that he can take is, drive straight from KR Puram till Ulsoor lake, then take Nandi Durg road via St John's Road.

If I need a much earlier start, I might as well drive the night before and sleep there.

Thank you very much.

As a frequent visitor to IISc and living near Old Madras Road: +1 to the above suggested route. It has fewer uncertainties.

Same here. I live near Byappanahalli Metro. I have started taking this route most of the times when I have to reach yeshwantpur and beyond.

With METRO work all along the ORR and then Hebbal circle mess, ORR has become most unpredictable.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Traffic is already less on ORR today due to the Holiday season. i am guessing it should be even lesser tomorrow. I reached office in 30 min today against the normal travel time of 50 min.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

It's that time of the year again
When you can go for a ride in the city, within day light, thanks to the holiday season.

I plan to cover Iskcon temples, Bull temple and many other places in the city in the next two weeks. Safe driving fellow Bengalureans.

My bad, thanks for noticing that!

One option is to go right through the city and get to Mekhri circle (and continue straight at the signal to get to Raman institute on the left) via Ulsoor lake-Nandidurga road-Doordarshan Kendra, alternatively he could take the STRR at Hoskote and go via Hebbal as outlined in my earlier post.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Those who are travelling out of Bengaluru via flights- please plan well in advance.
My wife is at airport for work related travel and the queues to get inside the airport are serpentine long - In fact Digiyatra queue longer than the non-Digiyatra queue by multiples.

Missed the "Touchwood" part and traffic was back to its full glory in the evening . Took me almost an hour from Marathalli to HSR Layout.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Today, I took an alternate route to Mahadevapura

Normal Route - Old Madras Road - plenty of jams, poor roads, crazy road design, lots of near misses

New Route - HAL Airport Road, Doddenanekundi, ORR. This route took 7 min longer but was stress free and the last KM has lunar surfaces.

So, the one-way trial started today in Electronic City Phase 1.

As expected, there was lot of chaos in the morning. Most commuters were not aware of the one-way implementation starting today. Inspite of the signal free implementation, the traffic was moving very slowly because some commuters were unnecessarily stopping at the intersections to argue with the traffic marshalls and venting out their frustration on the poor souls.

I made good use of the Hella dual horns, which I had recently got installed in my car, to get such people moving.

I feel that ELCITA could have managed it better. They did not take the effort to convey the information regarding the on-way implementation to the apartment associations and schools located in and around Electronic City. The school buses were caught by surprise as they were diverted to unfamiliar narrow lanes. ELCITA treats Electronic City like an island consisting of only industries, which is not the case anymore. They are clearly hung up in the past.

Also, the one-ways could have been planned better. I had to drive 3 kms extra to cover an actual distance of 3 kms. Also, inspite of starting half an hour earlier, it took me 20 minutes instead of the usual 10 minutes. My son's school bus had to take a diversion of 2 kms for an actual distance of 100 meters, adding 10 minutes to the already challenging schedule.

I just hope that better sense prevails and they consider adjusting the one-ways based on the observations and feedback. I have come to know from my apartment residents' WhatsApp group that ELCITA is open to feedback. They are taking feedback on email, twitter etc.

Surprisingly, I didn't see a single traffic cop in entire Electronic City over the distance of 6 kms. The entire show was being managed by ELCITA traffic marshalls. Doesn't traffic police get involved in such decision making and implementations ?

P.S. I know may of you might be wondering what the fuss is all about and why am I cribbing even though my office and residence are located within 3 kms of each other. I have received suggestions like walking or cycling to work. But, I don't think it is a practical option for me at the moment.

Please spare a thought for bikers and pedestrians who aren't insulated like those of us in cars. We may intend the loud horn/honking to be 'directed' at a certain car, but the sound spreads all over and chances are troubles those very same traffic wardens, who anyway have to listen to horns all day.

More often than not on our roads, the intended recipient ignores the loud horn and the other road users suffer the additional noise. Best to use the horn as intended, only in the case of alerting to a potential safety issue, not as a signal for other things. Have seen it's rarely needed in cities, more useful on highways.

When I switched from office transport to self-driving to my office in that area, that's the route I used too.

Its mostly consistent narrow (2-3 lanes per side) nature makes it a bit more congested but far less chaotic. Road quality is better too due to upkeep for VIP movement upto HAL airport. The OMR route, with its constant lane number variations, is just a mess of converging and diverging lanes. I wouldn't wish the tin factory and hanging bridge interchange during rush hour on my worst sworn enemy.

I got the pdf, but unable to attach as it is 90MB. Massive 200 page document. Quick run through left me disappointed. It only talks about traffic improvement with flyovers, elevated corridors and tunnels. Some of them are definitely needed, but unfortunately no talk about multi modal integration with metro, suburban rail, enhanced bus system etc.
