Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

We had to do a HSR Layout run at around 8 p.m, I don't have enough words to describe this place. It is considered to be one of the posh areas in the city with rates equalling the much older, better planned localities.

HSR is a complete mess, vehicles running on high-beams, every one of them because there is not a single street-light along the Agara road, within 1st Sector and close to 50% of the total stretches. Visibility due to oncoming high beams as a result is a grand zero. This combined with the very famous Silk-Board Junction, the ORR and possibly the longest and widest open-drain I've seen in the city thus far, HSR should be lucky to be getting the atrocious land-value that it commands, 3-4 times overvalued. There is simply no hope for this area.

Bit of nostalgia again for the experienced Bangaloreans - visited Ulsoor lake in the morning.. refreshing as ever. Malls, pubs & coffee shops are really not what Bangalore is good for. The metro line is an eyesore though.

Good news is that proposed fuel tanker drivers strike is called off.

Fuel tanker drivers call off strike plan

Quote:
The strike called by fuel tanker drivers from Monday, that would have affected the supply of fuel to the city this week, was called off on Sunday after the State government intervened to start negotiations between the drivers and cleaners associations and the oil marketing companies.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Real bad traffic on the Neeladri road (from Begur road) that joins Electronic City. Rain and bad roads are contributing to the mess.

Apart from NICE, this was the best route to travel from Bannerghatta road via Meenakshi mall to Electronic city for me.
Any other options ?

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Not sure if this is the right thread, this happened to me yesterday! 2 Girls on an Activa without Helmets, honking continuously in Traffic and I was beside her and was quite Irritated by the Horn and I told her "Stop Honking" to which she replied "Any Problem", I replied with an "Yes" and she replied with an abuse. What has this world come to ??

You can't even say anything due to the fear A).She is a Girl B). You Might be booked for eve Teasing C). She can do anything and public will kick you left right and center!

What you faced is growing phenomena all over metro cities and not specific only to Bangalore. In a similar situation in Pune, I once got a reply "are you my father ?"

Youngsters and their behavior is surely a topic for a dedicated thread.

I am just back from KL, and perhaps that makes my mind think in "socialist" style for some time . The best "shared transport" would remain the public transport, preferbaly not operating with a pure profit motive. There should be some pressure put on the government to ensure that the city has a good to use public transport system. Many people would be willing to move to such a system if it is efficient and cost effective.

Why I really don't subscribe to the Uber,Ola,ZipGo model is that all said and done these are private companies trying to make hay when the sun shines. ZipGo with all its fans and whistles only operates on routes which it finds profitable, and also have identified the right number of confirmed passengers. A friend of mine regularly used it to commute to ITPL from South Bangalore. ZipGo had no problems in cancelling routes if it found out that there are no enough number of passengers. So it was a case of "all or nothing". That is when I realised the merit of BMTC. I am not against any private parties getting into this, but the government should ensure that they just cannot run the show only on profitable sectors. Uber & Ola, came up with the "x times the normal fare" rule, and they were also transparent enough to tell that upfront. This is just like an auto-wallah giving his rates upfront. What the auto-wallah says in Kannada, Hindi or Tamil, the Ola and Uber App throws up on a mobile application. And these people also charged more than the maximum fares set by the government (the transperency is not here). All the government is trying to do is regulate this sector and also ensure that these profiteers don't flout the government set rates.

You should not have missed this chance. Should have said - perhaps you are ONE among her fathers, and then redirected her for clarifications from her mother.

+1 to that brother. I had a similar experience about a month ago.
I was waiting at a red signal (BEML Gate signal) in my 2-wheeler. Suddenly I was rear-ended by a girl/woman driving her Activa. This was a one-way road and I was already on the right most lane. I figured the only reason she could have hit my bike was because she wanted to ramp her Activa onto the footpath and reach to the first line of traffic . She missed the ramp and instead rear-ended my stationary bike. In the impact she lost her balance and fell down. The first thing she says after getting up is "Good, nothing happened to your bike". No apologies. No shame. Nothing.
I did not like one bit in getting hit from back while I was stationary at a red signal. I gave her a piece of my mind. Immediately, she played the female victim card to perfection and lots of onlookers came to her aid. Thankfully some people near me who witnessed the entire episode were still there. I just mumbled under my breath and started off after the green signal.
I made a mental note not to ever lose cool on the roads - especially against a woman.

Now that would be very very RUDE! Because her response was like that we cannot become like her and respond to her in that way.

I think it's best and safe to just keep calm and ignore such Girls on the road who will unnecessary cause trouble. People on the road will come first to rescue a girl who is not at all in the trouble, to put the innocent guy in trouble

I would not come up with such a response. The fact she used that word against the person shows her basic mentality. There is no point trying to argue or convince her. She will not change. It is better if we stay away from her. You never know how things will change if we exchange some words in public. It may backfire and you may have to face the irate mob. The cops may even slap case of eve teasing against you.
She just adds to the ever growing list of MORONIS. That's all.

+1 to the comment on private operators. They would miss not a single bit to get that additional rupee. Proof? Try KR Puram railway station, starting from delibarately moving slow, to waiting at the bottleneck holding the 2 KM traffic backpile, private buses spare no trick.

It is simply not possible to make a private company operate the way a Govt org would operate (tolerating losses). The only salvage to a reliable, accessible at all (non profitable routes included) public transport is to have it operated by Govt.

Back to the topic, I personally am fed up with the private bus mess. BMTC in their penchant to be profitable, make a mess of KR Puram!

They should make a strict first come, first out rule for ALL the buses from Tin factory to KR Puram railway to ensure that we dont see 3/4 buses waiting in parallel to pick up passengers!

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

our traffic will never improve!!
I was stuck on Bhannerghatta road for a good 15 minutes waiting to take a right turn which was 20mtrs away.
this was caused by cars, unsurprisingly 9/10 of whom were yellow boards, that were on the other side of the double solid lines, blocking the traffic coming from other side too.
one among that came beside me and was trying to push me to the left but i didn't budge. after some distance he came really close.
Being very slow I didn't mind touching both the ORVMs and made them fold.
To that, this moron had the audacity to tell me that i have to move left.
I told him that i won't because i have to take a right turn and I'm in the correct lane. he was the guy who was on the wrong side.
to my bad luck a scooter came in front of me and blocked my way and he got an opening.
So he cut me and took a left turn!!!

It can't be that the government must absorb all losses either. Governments run on everyone's money - why should say, a taxpayer in Bellary subsidize the losses of BMTC in Bangalore? This is a bit of a slippery slope.
