Now the CM will respond saying there is not enough money to provide package, the entire focus cannot be on Bangalore

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Now its the turn of BWSSB to contribute their share of madness to the Whitefield traffic chaos. Yesterday they began digging near the Bhoruka signal thereby rendering 2 lanes of graphite road unusable especially near the junction where traffic would turn left. This immediately caused a jam on the road since only the righmost 2 lanes were usable and had to be shared by traffic turning left and right at Bhoruka signal.
Today was even worse - they've dug pits at regular intervals on the Graphite road so its an obstacle course
The ripple effect could be felt from the Hoodi road just after the junction all the way to the 'ATM' building junction where traffic turns in to Graphite Road and then all the way to Bhoruka junction. Phew, when will this ordeal end ?

Our ordeal will start the day metro work commences on the whitefield stretch. Life will be hell then.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Good morning to all Bangaloerian's except those who are commuting through HAL signal,

There is a massive jam in HAL signal, Old airport road. Especially those heading towards ITPL, already there is a traffic pile up from HAL post office to NAL Signal (little after Kemp fort). Use alternate route to reach Maratahalli or ITPL.
Reason: Big tractor trailer carrying a metro train compartment is left in the middle of the road near HAL post office. The vehicle which supposed pull this trailer is missing, might have gone for repair.

100% on this one. Passed by 8:00 am from here and the jam extended till Kemp Fort and it was simply not moving.

Advised to take a left just after Kempfort signal to bypass HAL completely.

And slightly OT - Looks more like a nuclear warhead than a Metro Compartment!

I was stranded here for over 25 mins yesterday. Sheer stupidity on the part of the officials especially BTP for having allowed BWSSB to dig up the stretch during the day.

Not sure whether to be happy or sad at this!

ORR set to lose ‘signal free’ status

Traffic police have decided to install around 10 traffic signals on the Outer Ring road, defeating the whole purpose of more than a dozen flyovers that were constructed on the stretch to make it 'signal free'.

Traffic police said the decision was taken as traffic on the ORR stretch had become "too much" To begin with, traffic signals will be installed below the flyovers of Bellandur, Devarabeesanahalli and Mahadevapura and above Kadubeesanahalli underpass. Traffic police sources said that BDA had constructed the flyovers at these places thinking that the construction of a grade separator would solve the traffic mess.

However, it has realised now that the flyovers have helped the passengers passing through, while local traffic is badly struck. The traffic signals are being installed to regulate this local flow of traffic.

Additional commissioner of police (Traffic) B Dayananda speaking to Bangalore Mirror said, "We have found out the major traffic spots in many places. The tender has been called for installing traffic signals on ORR and other parts of Bengaluru. But I am not sure of how many signals are getting installed."

Speaking to Bangalore Mirror, Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA) president Captain GA Poornaprajna said it was high time the Bengaluru traffic police provide signals on the ORR.

"Ten to 15 junctions have been identified where traffic signals should be installed either under all flyovers or above underpass. Out of which Bellandur, Devarabisanhalli, Kadubeesanahalli (above underpass) and Mahadevapura are the major junctions where there is a huge traffic pile up and where signals should be installed," he said.

Poornaprajna said till now a traffic warden appointed by ORRCA would hold a 'Stop Sign' and help people cross wherever there was heavy traffic. They mainly stop vehicles to let people pass and at other points where U-turns are allowed, they stop oncoming traffic to let those who take U-turns, pass. "This is mostly taken care of, by ORRCA personnel," he said, adding this was just an ad hoc measure and signals were necessary to handle bulk traffic.

"Without proper planning the ORR work was started. The Bangalore traffic police should provide signals to avoid the traffic. Otherwise things will become worse in the next five years and they will have to create a loop based system to curb the traffic menace," said Poornaprajna.

The Outer Ring Road is the gateway to key corridors of the city like Electronic City, Whitefield and tech-parks that have sprang up all along the stretch at places like Nagavara, Marathahalli, Bellandur, Iblur and Silk Board junction. "No one has a clue about the length of the pile up and how long it would take for them to reach their destination. Most of the BMTC buses on the route stop on the road causing further traffic jams," an ORRCA member said.

Bangalore Mirror does not seem to have got facts straight. The proposed signals are below the flyovers and above the underpass, so not sure how they say it impacts the Signal Free status of ORR. The plan was always to install signals below the flyovers like they did under HSR, Agara and Iblur flyovers.

In other updates, kundanahalli is now consistently almost a drive through especially for traffic turning left. A huge change from the minimum 15-20 min it would take to cross this signal during peak hours. The adjustments to the signal on removing the right turn seem to have worked. Also, the flow from Graphite India side towards Kundanahalli has either reduced or been throttled due to the changes at that signal. So that has also helped.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Traffic signals are in the junction like Agara has not on the flyovers or in the underpass. The signal near Prestige tech park could have been avoided by making buses go over the underpass to drop/pickup passengers

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

As per the news item, the traffic signals are installed under the flyovers to regulate the local traffic. We should be happy about this. Currently navigating these chaotic junctions are too cumbersome.

This is definitely something worth cheering. I have been stuck at these junctions for between 15 and 45 minutes frequently; these signals are definitely needed. The title of the article is misleading as the normal flow of traffic along the ORR proceeds without signal interruption via the flyovers or underpasses.

In any case, how can we call the ORR signal free; I count at least 4 between Silk Board and Krishnarajapura?

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Some kind of signalling is definitely needed under flyovers/over underpasses where currently the traffic crosses in a chaotic manner. But how they implement is also important. For example, under Bellandur flyover, a huge traffic inflow is from service road coming from Ecospace, they'll have to place signal on the service road, or no one is going to see it. And how about the messy service road in front of Central? How will they put up signals for 2 way traffic over there? I guess it is again going to be a half-baked solution, which will not solve anything. Also people tend to neglect such weak solutions and break signal anyway.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Could somebody please please explain to me how ECity entrance signal works? I normally commute to office by office bus, but, when i do get my car, it feels like lottery crossing hosur road.
This is my understanding: People exiting NICE road stop on the right side of service road blocking traffic and wait for signal from Bangalore towards Hosur to turn red. Then, its a free for all with vehicles from all four service roads jostle to cross the road.

Same feeling I get if at all by mistake I end up taking the road below BETL.

Sadly there are no Cabbies here to tell us how the signalling "rule" works for such intersections where you have service lanes.
