Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

From what was mentioned in the paper, BDA asked for a week to resolve this issue. Safe to assume it would be at least a month from the resolution, unless BDA decides to surprise all of us.

So the buck stops at BTP. @soumyajit thanks for the follow up with BTP - they should know that just hiring a PR specialist to answer such queries promptly (and incorrectly!) isn't enough

Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

The Bangalore mirror article quoted a few posts earlier elaborately mentions ground clearance details of 8 cars ranging from 170 mm to 100 mm but fails to mention the height of the speed breaker. If a car with with 170 mm clearance scrapes the bump then you don't have to be a genius to figure that other cars with lower clearances would have issues - or do you have to be a genius - Bangalore Mirror?

Soooperaa news coming in for ORR users.
The hump infront of IOC near Agara Flyover is being widened to have more ramp on either sides. Both the lanes are being worked upon. It will be a long smooth hump.
Hope they do the same for Mantri hump too.
Fail to understand why are they doing it at this hour of the day !!
Before the asphalt even settles in, it would be wiped off by rush hour traffic !!

Truck breakdown at Sarjapur junction near the hump. Expect some traffic pile up.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

What caused the 4 km long painfully slow moving traffic on ORR today? From EMC signal to Marathalli. I could see a white bus was being towed across the road at Marathalli. An accident?

Not sure of the reason. I did not see anything wrong. But the backlog started from Marathahalli (Belandur direction) and slowly got backed up all the way to the ISRO U Turn. Once it reached there, vehicles taking U Turn started getting blocked which resulted in traffic build up all the way to Marathahalli on the other side (towards EMC/KR Puram).

So after crawling from Marathahalli, as vehicles reached the U turn, most vehicles started taking U Turn rashly cutting the traffic coming from KR Puram side to complete the U Turn(Especially the big buses). This resulted in the build up from EMC side to the U Turn and on to Marathahalli.

A classic Ripple Effect

it's a sort of confession

I have stopped using the car in Bangalore roads and have now made the 2-wheeler as the only mode of transport, i have started doing the usual antics that 'they' used to do about which 'we' used to rant about.

They have done them too and put reflectors on top of both

Bangalore, probably is the only 'smart' city in India which allows trucks, dumpsters, construction vehicles to ply within the city limits during peak hours. I wonder how these vehicles even pass the FC for they are in such deplorable condition.

Heights of ignorance and shameful that they cannot stop this practice and see the benefits immediately.

I generally don't use ORR and hence didn't know that the stretch is so painful. If took me 3 hours to reach ITPL from JP Nagar last week. Started at 9.15AM and reached at 12.30PM. Not sure if it was my bad day or it's a routine on this stretch. My sympathies are with daily travelers of this route

It wasn't an accident, I think. I drove from Kadubeesanahalli to EMC2 in the morning. The traffic was backed up from Karthik Nagar U-turn all the way till Marathahalli underpass. And the white bus was parked with hazard lights on. There were no signs of any damage on its front, right and back. There were at least two sub-inspectors and a few constables there. They had completely stopped all the vehicles on the ring road, and were signalling the vehicles on Kundanahalli-Kadubeesanahalli route to go faster.

My best guess is, some VVIP movement was to happen from Kundanahalli-Bellandur direction. The white bus being there seemed like a breakdown unrelated to traffic chaos.

Since that side of ORR was blocked, the vehicles taking U-turn at Karthik Nagar had started blocking Marathahalli-Doddanekkundi direction too.

I hope things are clear by evening!

That white bus was parked at that place with hazard lights on since yesterday late evening. I crossed it at 9PM. Why they couldn't move it even after 14 hours? I guess, cops woke only after the traffic started piling up in the morning.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

The speed breakers height is same but the length has increased on both sides.

I would say Kudos to Bangalore mirror for highlighting and getting the authorities to take action.

It's back to happy motoring and today when I crossed the stretch it was empty. No backlog of cars inching over the car breaker.

If only that bus operator had enough sense to move the bus away during night itself, so much fuel and so many man-hours would have been saved!

While I agree with you, I also wonder what police were doing. I don't believe that no policeman spotted a broken down bus on such an important road. Enough patrol cars would have driven past the broken down bus.

Oh wait, those are civil police. Why will they bother about traffic problems? Why will they inform their traffic police counterparts about broken down bus?

Even if traffic police found out, how could they remove the bus from there? They could ask BMTC, which has trucks that are capable of towing buses. But then, who will go begging BMTC? Who will bear the cost?
