I tried reporting using new app, but it gets rejected instantly as the photo is not geo-tagged. Looks like I'm not going to report anymore. Earlier, there was option to add the location manually. Now we can't do it.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

A little welcome respite. Yesterday was a day where for the most part, the roads were bereft of traffic. Lots of folks have gone out of the city. The going was pretty good on my in-city-joy-shopping-rides, except in patches.

However, here’s the rub; considering the humongous taxes that we pay for everything here in KA, it is unbelievable how bad the potholes and debris-laden rough patches are - Eejipura, Inner Ring Road, HSR, both the Agara roads and parts of the Outer Ring Road too.

All of this adds considerably to the snail’s pace of traffic, road-rage, frustration, lack of civic sense, unruliness, lane indiscipline and so on.

And we, the tax paying residents, who are actually (supposedly) deeply invested in this city from a financial, effort and emotional stand point, seem to be just standing by and watching the miserable-ness, just like Nero’s Guests’did.

We seem to be so innured to these circumstances and apathetic to them too, that we have completely tuned-out while going about our business.

I wonder if there is ever going to be any hope for redemption here.

I had a visitor from Bombay comment 'The hell is this surface?', when passing through CBD!

'These are the OK bits. You wouldn't want to see the suburbs. Best we pretend ORR doesn't exist at all'.

You know things are bad when a Bombay dweller, one from the seventh(ish?) circle of infrastructure hell, has cause for complaint going through the middle of your city.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

For the first time, drove from Banashankari to Marathahalli on ORR. Used the double decker flyover and everything was a breeze.

21 kms in 40 minutes. I left early giving it 90 mins.

I guess, the situation was same throughout BLR, because of 'holiday today' for govt offices, banks, some companies and then summer holidays started for all the schools. Even for me, I reached office in a record time, 23 kms in 36 mins.

Here is a fantastic video that illustrates the systemic issues that have cropped up in Bengaluru.

It touches upon my rant in this thread from earlier.

Worth a watch!

Truly an illuminating watch! This should be played on loop on every public big screen in the city, so people will truly understand what ails our infra.

Then perhaps we will turn our anger on the people truly responsible and stop getting distracted by blaming 'outsiders', 'new Bangalore residents', 'non-native language speakers', etc. (And understand why ignoring 'Civics' in school in favor of more 'practical' subjects leads us to these situations!)

And then perhaps things will change. Wistful thinking.

(I think the only realistic option is to plan to exit the city as soon as financially feasible. I am not looking forward to another 20-25 years of dust, increasing pollution, and steadily worsening infra.)

Please watch the video!

Delhi which used to have highest vehicle population with 655/1000 persons in 2020, Bengaluru takes pole position with abnormally high vehicle population of 1.2 Crore at 850/1000 persons.

This statistic itself shows what needs to be corrected - public transport.

True. This thread on Bangalore traffic is hundreds of pages long now, yet, people are buying cars everyday in Bangalore because an alternative simply doesn't exist.

Correction - thousand of pages. 1506 so far, and counting. and there's still no stop to it. Like you said - cars are entering BLR only to get stuck in traffic, with no solution in sight.. UGHHH

My college commute, even though it's a 6.5km journey, takes 30 mins and it seems like a painful task. Finding a Rapido/Uber bike to get home is like a final sem project that I have to do everyday

Scary stat. Especially considering Bangalore 's road infra is probably 10% of what Delhi has. Not to mention Delhi's large Metro Network.

This is only going to get worse in Bangalore. There are no meaningful road infra projects under construction ( ignoring the schemes still on paper), there is no urgency in the Metro construction, suburban rail is slowly being choked and killed before even construction picks up steam. BMTC is actually comparatively better but the number of buses are still far from ideal.

I have also noticed that it is becoming harder and harder to reliably get a cab especially during peak hours. Uber and Ola are almost impossible. Namma Yatri and Rapido works somewhat better as of now. Blusmart works as long as you can pre-book but is expensive.

Not surprising that more and more people are moving into private transport via two wheelers or 4 wheelers.

True. Interesting is that the problems have remained the same over the years, locations too. I remember being an active contributor/whinger on this thread till I moved out.
