Yes, I can vouch for this. Primarily because of the Iblur junction pileup I think. I have seen +45 mins between Agara till Bellandur on Google Maps on a few occasions.

On Tuesday - I was returning from an outstation trip, and chose to ignore Google Map's top-two suggestions of Raj Bhavan-Trinity and Hebbal-KR Pura to get to Marathahalli from Nelamangala; chose NICE Road + SB junction instead. And that beat the Maps estimate by a good 15 minutes. Only downside was the Rs. 250 toll differential.

I reached SB junction (from Bommanahalli side) and turned right to HSR side with about a 1 minute wait for green signal. This was at around 4 PM.

So this is a problem that can be solved soon.
Yes. My comment was that it was always backed up till Agara and now with increased flow from silk board, it has started getting backed up till HSR Flyover during morning peak hours.

I stay around the vicinity , had anticipated this dreadful situation while the ramp was under construction . Only solution is to move the bustops atleast another 500 mtrs further , widen the service road to enable movement of traffic . Otherwise evenings and weekend nights will have long jams running into hosur road / st.johns junction aswell.

Unless the tunnel openings are in NH4 or Mysuru highway, there will be kilometres of jam at the entry and exit. I hope banks/organization stop providing loans to our govts

Created mayhem on many arterial roads today because HGVs were taken totally by surprise, and made to park in long queues. I support the move but some notice needs to be given!

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

120kmph official speed limit on NICE seems high. 100 seems the ideal speed considering the volume of traffic and the high level of truck traffic on NICE road.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Sounds more like a challenge: 'Can you get up to 130 kmph before you have to slam brakes because 3 large trucks decided to overtake each other doing a 1 kmph delta?'

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Its been two weeks since the double decker flyover inauguration but still people don’t seem to understand that they can skip the Silk Board signal going towards Electronic City and HSR. Still I huge amount of traffic backed up all the way till BTM Bus stand which is not allowing the signal timing to be changed. I suspect poor signage to be one issue.

Such rubbish. I would have given better advise for half that price and saved the government some money, as well as finally settle down into the life I’ve dreamt of

Like that old joke about a repair man on a ship who charged a bomb for a simple job just because he knew where to do that job. On the contrary, these consultants don’t even know where and what the problem is. Yet they provide such solutions coming from some other part of the country where problems would be different.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I am one who usually doesn't lose my cool in Bangalore traffic, but the last day 24 hours has been more than amusing.

Yesterday night, while I was trying to cross a road watching my right, (on a median double road), three youngsters on a scooter without helmets driving on the wrong side shout at me for not watching to my left, and laugh away still driving carelessly.

And then, when I am on a zebra crossing, trying to cross the road, the traffic lights have just gone off and everyone is coming from every side, and a few of us are trying to cross the road, and cars not letting us cross, sneaking. A two wheeler person overtakes a car blind and scolds me for coming in his way "Are you drunk" (Neither rider nor pillion wearing helmet).

And morning, Indiranagar signal, we have green, and a taxi guy is slowly trying to take a U turn under a red light, and then scolds me "Can't you see I am coming". Well, the last one, I yelled at him back

In the last 12 hours, "Aye", "Kud-dideeyeno", "kaN kaaNalva" for no fault of mine, and all by offenders who are all getting away with zero punishment.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

On a lighter note only:

After a lot of time driving Slavia and Innova, I drove in my mums Jazz last week and noticed a totally different pattern by fellow commuters. Then realised that commuters treat you based on what they perceive of you. Not demeaning anyone but a personal experience. In my Slavia/Crysta I hardly have people cutting me across. I zip through narrow gaps and no incidents of people trying to take mad turns when I’m approaching and even if we are stuck in a situation, they make way and guide me saying ‘Banni saar’ but in the Jazz, its all singular, if at all any space is given.

As a pedestrian it gets even funny when I shave and put on my glasses and I am treated in singular. The moment I put on some weight, grow a beard, I dont get such questions and while crossing the road, people just mind their business. Simple eye contact while crossing the road will work. So the trick for a comfortable driving/pedestrian life in Bangalore now is to own a white SUV, have a well built personality and grow a beard

On another note, due to rains yesterday traffic was mad. 6-8PM rush hour is something that is just insane right now and this time is best avoided any place in the city. Everyone is impatient, frustrated with the days work and want to get home at any cost. Its like a battle ground. Two wheelers now come so close to each other in traffic that yesterday I couldnt tilt my bike a bit to either side since there were people so close.

The ramp exists only at Ragigudda and BTM and eastern Jayanagar vehicles cannot get on to the flyover earlier than silk board (without travelling all the way to Ragigudda). This was mentioned in newspapers.

This is the exact reason I was citing for the tunnel roads. With no exits/entries any flyover is just waste of money. Even with exits/entries on to roads which are already choked, it doesnt help. We can see the jams on NICE road entry/exit at Hosur road, Mysuru road etc. Now the jams have moved to HSR and other intersections with silk board breathing little easy.

.
Thats exactly what I am telling. Vehicles from BTM and Jayanagar east can climb onto the flyover after BTM AXA signal and proceed towards E-City or HSR without having to get to Silk board signal. Instead I see hoards of vehicle still standing at the signal at silk board junction without taking the ramp. This was the thing I was wondering about. Not the traffic before the ramp. No one seems to take the ramp itself.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

And they have added one inconvenience to taking the flyover:

Only vehicles coming in from Jayanagar side can easily enter the flyover. For vehicles that come from JP Nagar side have to go upto Sangam circle, take a U-turn and then head onto the flyover. Earlier we used to have a turn near the Shell bunk. That has been temporarily closed. The signal near Raghavendra Swamy Matth also does not have a right turn when coming from 15th cross side.
