I was a victim of this long jam today! A one hour commute from Hennur to Sarjapur Road took 2 hours today!

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

What kind of disgusting mindset does someone (or this case 4 people, if you can call them that) need to have to be triggered by a speeding ambulance carrying a baby? - https://www.timesnownews.com/bengalu...icle-110864307

The driver saying that it is common across the state is really disturbing to read about.
Intoxicated, harassing an ambulance driver, at the toll gate with police personnel around and then getting away with it paints a horrible picture of the degraded mindset and the response from the law protectors.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Our roads are in such terrible condition that many areas started looking like a war zone. Debris everywhere, roads dug up dangerously, no warning signs on construction work, careless bikers going all over and on top of it dust, mud and what not.

Honestly, while driving in Bangalore does not look and feel like we are living in a 4 Trillion USD economy. I am losing hope on living a life in India like the way people lives in our other counterpart cities like Bangkok, KL etc.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

The BBMP must take us common folks as absolute idiots, right?

https://www.indiatoday.in/cities/ben...015-2024-06-19

6 months for an 18kms tunnel?

Took them a cool 7 years to build a small, 2 kms one on the Old Airport road. And once completed, boy did they show off on twitter with no shame.

More likely that 6 months would be taken for assessment studies, kickbacks for it and finally shelving the project citing lack of funds (finances are already struggling to meet the freebies being doled out).

IMHO, seems like another long term retirement plan for the staff, if greenlighted, similar to the notorious Bangalore Stonehenge.

Haha, no one calls them out!

The newspapers faithfully report each deadline for BBMP projects and from the Metro PRO as if it were a done deal. When NOT ONE deadline has been met, at least as far as the Metro is concerned. When a company I used to work at announced they were going to move from a great location connected well by public transport, to the ORR, the head honchos (all of whom were based in the US and don't need to struggle through Bangalore traffic everyday!) confidently announced that "the Metro on the ORR would be up and running soon". That was pre-covid!

So, till we start making a big deal about these stupid deadlines, till the media goes after them they way they go after Bollywood celebs in Bandra restaurants, till traffic congestion becomes an election issue, we're going to continue being the idiots, struggling through traffic to get to work so that 1/3 of our income goes to these idiots (government and corporate) to make unrealistic announcements like this and rub it in!

Stonehenge.
They mentioned 1st Jan 2025, they might have actually meant 2035 and 2045 would be a reasonable time by which BBMP can finish it for the people who can survive till then

It is such shameful and irresponsible reporting. When I saw this, I thought it was only Indiatoday who just blindly printed whatever BBMP said. Then saw that all news publications had published this with the exact same content. Keeping aside the need for the tunnel or the feasibility of it, not one news outlet has bothered to question the claim on an 18km tunnel being ready in 6 months and just went and proudly published it. One prominent Malayalam Paper even has the Jan 1st 2025 date as an headline for the article.

The problem is that this will be picked up by lot of folks to justify some atrocious price or location for some massive commercial construction and a majority of the population will believe it without getting into the details.

Also, there seems to be a fundamental issue that has been conveniently ignored. When we talk about Hebbal to Silk Board, the reference/route is normally the ORR. Building a tunnel from Hebbal to Silkboard will have no effect on the ORR as the ORR traffic is due to lakhs of people coming to work in the stretch between Hebbal and Silk Board. Among these, most people stay somewhere in this stretch too. The media also acts as if such a tunnel will solve ORR traffic. It will have Zero impact.

To add to this, it will end up creating more congestion at Hebbal and Silkboard with one additional input into the chaos there, even if it were to be completed in 6 months or 6 years. What we need is a pragmatic, future looking solution, not such knee jerk reactions.

This has been the case for over a decade. When the very first section of the Metro was being built, the newspapers would publish deadlines that were obviously not feasible, evident to anyone who was passing MG Road and could see the progress. One very prominent newspaper has their head office right on MG Road, bang opposite the Metro construction- all they had to do was look out of the window to see that whatever they were publishing was unrealistic. And yet.

If the newspapers really did their job, held these officials accountable, things might go faster, or at least they won't keep spouting unrealistic deadlines like these.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Yesterday, I needed to go to Baptist Hospital in Hebbal from Hennur side. It took me a good 1 hr + where I needed to cross Bellari road under the flyover and go straight and then take a right turn through bhoopasandra and then cut the Bellari road again and go through narrow roads and emerge near the emergency entrance of the hospital.

Isnt there a better way to reach baptist hospital other than the one I took? It was pathetic, to say the least.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Adding new road is never a solution for solving traffic when the demand for road will always far exceed the supply. Even creating something like a ludicrous 20-lane road will only be temporary and within a few years the demand will fill that supply.

Decongesting a city is ALWAYS (and ONLY) about building better integrated and intelligent transportation systems, public transportation infrastructure, walking friendly neighborhoods and zone planning.

But nobody wants to actually solve the problem.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Not a rant but a query - Is there 2 wheeler parking available at Benniganahalli (Tin Factory) metro station ? If yes, where exactly is it located ? TIA

You can refer here: https://www.bmrc.co.in/parking/

Benniganahalli has 390 bike parking slots available. I think these are accessed from the eastbound carriageway of the ORR.

I too have a similar query - coming from OA Road, what is the best way to to get to KA-03 (Kasturi Nagar) RTO office? Google shows a route through a RUB at the west end of KR Pura railway yard (before the rail track triangle starts, via what is marked as FCI Godown Road). Is this manageable in a two-wheeler?
