On the contrary, had quite a leisurely drive from Magadi Road to IIMB just a while ago, passing through Basavanagudi, Jayanagar and Bilekahalli. Usually a 9 - 10 am drive would mean chocked up roads with traffic on both sides. Today was pleasant with only certain spots seeing some heavy traffic.

Yes, signals were down at several junctions and many trees had fallen across multiple locations but they have been cleared up and traffic is free flowing. No water logging at any place in my route.

Folks, if you still are on the fence; hop on to your vehicles and head to office! I guarantee you tomorrow is going to see heavy traffic for to compensate for today.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Was near MG Road yesterday and left towards Mysuru road at 10 pm. Brigade road junction near Residency road and after had lot of water on the road.

The whole Richmond road had turned into river. In addition they had laid underground pipes recently on the right side and the soil over the trench had not settled. It had caved in at some places (which of course you cant see with water logging) and people rightly avoided the part and traffic was moving slowly.

Some delivery boys riding the E scooters didn't think it was dangerous and 2 of them got stuck with their vehicle sinking. Since they were light scooters, they were able to lift them up.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Looks like there was some record - Bengaluru breaks 133-year-old record for highest daily rainfall in June
Quote:
The very first spell of rain during the Southwest Monsoon in Bengaluru on Sunday broke the 133-year-old record for the highest daily rainfall in June.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru city received 111.1 mm of rainfall on Sunday.

The previous highest was 101.6 mm recorded on June 16, 1891. The average rainfall in Bengaluru for June is 106.5 mm.
BTW, on track to break another record,
Quote:
The heavy downpour, along with forecasts of more rainfall in the coming days, has put the city on course to break its highest monthly rainfall for June. The current record is 228.2 mm recorded in 1996.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Some wise man decided to stop the signal cross over at Marthahalli and revert back to U turn further ahead. Result is traffic piled up till HAL underpass and commute increased by 45 mts from there to Marthahalli. No respite to pile up of traffic from Whitefield side to Marthahalli either.

Kudos to such smart folks who care nothing about road users!

That signal and the U-Turn are the cause of traffic jam in that area. They need to keep the ring road traffic on the ring road, for those coming from kadubisanahalli towards Kundalahalli, the U turn near ISRO on the ring road is a wider option that they have but not used as this signal and the U turn is shorter by distance, but probably takes a much longer time.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

A quick update to anyone traveling to Bangalore Airport via Hennur main road route. There are huge 40feet and even longer sections of Metro concrete parts being transported post 11pm, causes huge traffic pile up.

If you have to reach on time, better use Hebbal route.

If you think the mess is bad during working hours you should see it at 6:00 AM. For over 6 months traffic on the ring road is diverted where they have to come up to airport road make a U turn and then head down the service ramp back onto the ring road, and this is for all traffic including multi-wheeled busses and trucks.

Got sandwiched this morning between a bus on the left hoping to turn right and a truck trying to edge it's way straight ahead resulting in me requiring a new right ORVM.

The Einstein's who thought this up should be made to stand at that junction and direct traffic for a month without a mask or ear muffs.

Actually there are 2 issues.

1) Commuters from Kundalahalli side who want to go towards KR Puram.

2) From Innovative Multiplex side who want to go towards Kundalahalli.

From what I have seen it is the first issue that causes a bigger pile up at Thulasi theatre junction. The better option for them is to take the Doddanekundi Main road to reach ISRO junction. I wonder why they don't. Especially the tempo travellers and trucks who struggle to take the u turn.

For case 2 as you said it doesn't really make sense for them to go into old airport road and even the bus route (500F) is to take the u turn only. In fact once the Panathur S Scross is complete the Vibgyor road is a better option especially if the end goal is to reach KTPO/ ITPL.

And the circus continues... I crossed the junction at 8am today morning. The right turn was allowed. As per BTP the decision to close the right turn as be reversed.

It was complete mayhem this week so had to avoid going via Marathahalli bridge. On Wednesday the backlog had reached HAL underpass all the way from the U turn after Yemalur junction. Even after this hungama, no one understands or solves the real issue - Ensuring smooth flow of traffic. Whichever routing is preferred. The U turn near Tulsi Theatre is narrow which will cut across the entire traffic coming from opposite side. OTOH, The right turn on Marathahalli underpass is very uneven and doesnt allow quick movement of vehicles, which leads to long dwell times. So either mechanism they follow, it will just shift the problem elsewhere. And to add to it, vehicles coming from Kundanahalli side towards Yemalur can’t pass this stretch fast enough due to buses stopping near that Brand factory stretch.

Many years ago, I complained about the same issues when they randomly closed the crossover and forced folks up ahead into a U Turn. After a lot of backlash and madness, it was reverted.. and now here it is again.

They say change is the only constant and these changes have one main constant, which is a harrowing commute for road users.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

These experiments on the top of Marathalli flyover has spilled onto Ring Road also. Yesterday, the folks who needed to take the up ramp to the flyover had blocked all but one lane of Ring Road going towards K R Puram leading to a long queue even at 3 pm. I hope they revert this latest change.

From my perspective, for folks on Ring Road needing to go towards Kundalahalli must be made to take U-turn near ISRO. Same for folks on Old Airport Road needing to go towards Silk Board. Folks coming from Kundalahalli needing to go towards K R Puram should take right at the next signal and go on the road behind ISRO. This would ease traffic for everyone because all turns would be at places that have some space.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Massive block on ORR today morning from KR Puram to Bellandur, looks like an accident happened in front of embassy tech village.
