The present poor conditions of these flyovers and the roads have been the same since at least 2018.

Why do we have to wait 6 years for maintenance and care when we all pay these high taxes on income and by way of GST and Road Tax and all?

Wherever one goes in Bangalore one finds there are lateral trenches on main roads (ostensibly to connect up the drainage and sewage from any construction site to the mains.

It is unbelievable that a neatly laid road is dug up almost immediately by various other civic bodies and never repaired afterwards. Gas. Electricity. Cabling work. Drainage and Sewage. Etc.

And yes of course these ubiquitous iniquitous rumble strips, home-made rubber as well as cement speed breakers which can break any suspension as well as one’s spine.

Is it any wonder that people are only buying SUV’s despite living in cities? And is it any wonder that every manufacturer worth his or her salt is mostly making jacked up vehicles with high ground clearance? The rise and rise of the Quasi SUV category very probably has its roots in this.

The same is done on the Hebbal flyover, many vehicles actually slow down to traverse these concave rumblers.
There is on expansion joint on the flyover near the Bhadrappa Layout railway crossing that has nearly 1 inch height difference, if traveling at 40kmph or so, sure to give the suspension a scare.

I think they are widening the road and straightening the S-cross (the pair of curves that come soon after crossing the underpass towards ORR). Saw something about demolition work starting and local MLA being involved.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

There is 4 km long jam on the Nice road from Kanakapura towards Bannerghatta Road. Reason is a LPG cylinder tanker which caught fire and the fire tenders are putting it out.

Avoid this stretch for next few hours atleast! Google maps show deep red on the stretch.

What boils my blood is that there were vehicles entering nice road from Kanakapura Road toll. Atleast the toll booth operator should block the entry and inform the commuters of the blocked stretch. Whoever entered the stretch is stuck now! Absolutely no regard for the commuters.

Convenience and in the interest of safety as well. If there is a live fire, they shouldn't be adding to the pileups.
Touchwood, but what if an ambulance or additional fire tenders are needed?
Desire to make money should have limits.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

https://bangaloremirror.indiatimes.c.../107335167.cms

Bangalore moves at 18km/hr

Well 18km/hr also seems somewhat optimistic. 18kms would be Silk Board to Yeshwantpur / Hoodi to SBC / Electronics City to MG road / JP Nagar to Hebbal.
Highly unlikely you will be able to cover all these routes within an hour other than perhaps EC to MG road thanks to the elevated road. During peak hours, even that gets totally clogged up (and MG road is on its way to be whitetopped)
I haven't even mentioned the infamous ORR since hours might be too small a unit
The article mentions Bangalore having the highest cars per 1000 people. Although this showcases the financial might of the city, a majority of these being 2 wheelers also point towards the utter failure of public transport (rather last mile connectivity). Metro and a convenient feeder system is the need of the hour, but the guv wants to spend resources of building tunnels and whitetopping roads, where the Ejipura Stonehenge stands as a slap on the face of every citizen of Bengaluru.

They should have done this after the Metro work is fully completed on ORR.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

My Alcazar had an accident last week and the car is in the service station for getting fixed.
In the meantime, I tried using the metro for office commute. And it has been an exceedingly positive experience.

My office commute is from near Meenakshi Mall Bannerghatta road to Whitefield. A total of 27kms each way. Once I planned to use the Metro, I decided to take an auto to Greenline metro on Kanakapura road and then switch to Purple line at Majestic.
  1. Morning 6.30AM auto to Konankunte Cross metro station. Cost Rs. 130.
  2. Konankunte Cross metro to Majestic - 20 mins
  3. Majestic to Nallurhalli metro - 40 mins. Total metro cost - Rs. 57.
  4. Walk to office - 1km. 10 mins.

It has been a very relaxing experience. Only problem is about 30 minutes of standing from Majestic until I reach Byappanahalli.

On the return journey, I get a seat throughout and no issues at all. Total cost per day is coming to about Rs. 380.

Once the Pink line metro on Bannerghatta road is operational, my costs will come down to Rs. 120 per day by metro. Plan to use it regularly then.

Thank you for sharing this. Good to have this experience based view. How tough/easy is it to get auto on (from/to office) both trips?

Both in the morning - from home to metro station and in the evening from metro to home, it took less than 3 minutes to get an auto. Today is the 3rd day on the metro for me and working out well.

But I tried getting a metro from office to metro station (1km) in Whitefield - did not get any yesterday. I guess it is due to the short distance. But was able to walk easily. No issues.

I got on the 7:07AM metro at Konankunte station. Trying to get the one at 6.55AM, but keep missing it by a minute or two.

Get the namma metro card and recharge it. That saves some time in getting the ticket everyday.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Huge traffic jams at multiple locations on the ORR today mid-noon. KR Puram railway station, Tin factory junction, tin factory flyover, and other places towards Manyata are all jampacked. I am reminded of the dreaded gridlock that I experienced last year.

Hello Naetik - From what I understand, once Pink line becomes operational, folks like us on BG Road need to use it till either Dairy circle or MG Road and change line to connect to Whitefield, right?
Reason am asking is, I too travel almost the same route and to avoid traffic hassles, I commute to office really early in the morning and return back in noon and re-connect from home from noon till late evenings. This is sapping my energy, but, as you rightly said, no other way out till Pink line becomes funtional.
