Look at the pictures. What are these dudes doing stopping at the middle looking around in awe?

Same thing happened when the KR Puram hanging bridge opened in bangalore

Curiosity and more. Especially since both ways was free, people were simply driving up and down the bridge.

Today was the first day people bought tickets. On a monday morning at 10am (peak hour usually) there was healthy flowing traffic and no bystanders or loafers.

It took me 4 minutes to traverse the entire bridge.

So I left the office at 6.40pm. Traffic was
normal, slightly on the higher side.

We reached the sealink by 7.18.

On the bridge we faced no obstructions and we were at the toll bridge by 7.25.
As I write this I am stuck in traffic near lilavati. I don't blame this on the sealink. I've seen similar jams here many times a week.
We're moving and I'm estimating I'll be home at 7.45pm.

That's 1 hour 5 mins home. My usual time is 1.45 on a monday evening.

I'd say the sealink is a success for me. Could be better but the main reason is good enough for me.

Sam, in the one month before the Sealink opened, traffic at Lilavati was almost absent (my observation). Traffic build-up at that junction is erratic, unpredictable, but surely the Sealink has contributed significantly to how bad the situation has become in the last week or so?

Started from Worli end of Sea-link at 9:38 pm.
Reached Bandra Toll station at 9:41 pm.
TOTAL TRAVERSE TIME ON SEA_LINK - approx. 3 mins. (incredible!)clap:
Moderate well moving traffic.
Speeds between 50 - 80 kmph.
No more guys seen taking U-turns or peeing!
Improved traffic management in progress.:thumbs up

At Toll queue for approx 3-4 mins.
My 1st day TOLL RECEIPT:-
Bandra Worli Sea Link is finally ready to ferry vehicles-bwsl-toll-receipt.jpg

DIGITAL ODO READINGS:-
Dist. travelled from Bandra to Breach Candy via Phoenix mills - 13.5 kms in 35 mins. (around 8:30 pm)
Returned from Breach Candy to Bandra via Sea Link - 13.0 kms in 30 mins. (around 9:30 pm)

However, I have to re-consider using Sea-link to town from Bandra and from town to Bandra via Phoenix mills with varied traffic conditions, before making my conclusions for regular usage successfully.

Going towards town, evening time, there is only one route, Tulsi Pipe Rd. Its fast too. It takes 10 mins from Mahim to Famous Studios(?) Mahalaxmi and not even crossing 60 once!

I think Sea Link should ease off massive jams at Mahim Junction. But one of the most idiotic thing to happen is a jam at start of W.E Highway.

They made this stupid looking merry-go-round flyover at Bandra Recl the main purpose was that people taking W.E.Highway will use the last 2 lanes and take the flyover to join highway without obstructing traffic coming from SV Rd. But today they are facing same problem they faced before building the flyover.
Taking Right under the bridge creates jam almost till Mahim and till Turner Rd in the opposite direction.
Another bonehead move was to make 'Skywalk' right in the middle of the SV Rd, Bandra! At junctions like Bandra Stn you dont need skywalks you need another flyover! These skywalks have ruined most the city esp suburbs. Bandra, Kandivali, Santacruz etc its everywhere!

City planners think they are playing Sim City 3000! Whatever they like is placed in every area of the city!

@ F50 "Another bonehead move was to make 'Skywalk' right in the middle of the SV Rd, Bandra! At junctions like Bandra Stn you dont need skywalks you need another flyover!"

Hear Hear !! I have been shouting myself hoarse about this for a while now. A flyover that starts from Mahim Causeway, flies over Bandra, and comes down in Khar will ease a HUGE amount of traffic. As anyone who drives home from town knows that's the worst part of the journey, almost always completely jammed. As it is S.V. road is only usable for about 2 and a half lanes and they go and make it narrower by building this stupid skywalk right in the middle.

wow, good reviews from users, esp Sam on the time spent and benefits reaped.

I had been looking for this report and turned to TBHP for the same.

Cant wait to go back to hometown, Guys can some make a video recording and put that on youtube and paste the link here ? So that we can enjoy the virtual drive :)

The traffic manners in Mumbai is really good, Even on a two lane road people are in their lanes. Do Mumbai folks follow lane dicipline on every roads? Bangalore people would have gone even in the opposite lane lol:

Beautiful pics and a thoughtful move. Hope it works!! It will be a solace.

some pics from my side:

Raj, thats nice pictures. Can you please take a video of the travelogue. I guess it would be around 4-5 mins only, but then we can also enjoy sitting away from Mumbai.
