Re: Hyderabad: Updates on traffic - diversions, road expansions, alternate routes, etc.

The taller flyover at Bio Diversity junction has been opened. I can't wait to use it tomorrow.

https://telanganatoday.com/ktr-to-in...tion-on-monday

The news also talks about some new projects expected in this area.

Quote:
Apart from throwing open the unidirectional flyover at Biodiversity junction, the MA&UD Minister will also lay foundation stones for three projects on Monday. These include construction of a second-level six-lane flyover from Kondapur end towards ORR at Gachibowli junction, a four-lane bidirectional flyover from Shilpa Layout to Gas Godown, and a vehicular underpass across the existing Gas Godown road. These three projects are planned at a cost of Rs 330 crore.
Does anyone know where is this Gas Godown road?

The surface is a little rough and hopefully it will even out in the next few weeks.

There is a strong recommendation to ride motorbikes on the left hand side but I found it a little too scary.

This flyover shall be very useful in preventing the nasty traffic pileup, which used to form around the signal under it.

Re: Hyderabad: Updates on traffic - diversions, road expansions, alternate routes, etc.

The budget they are spending on developing flyovers and underpasses for improved flow of traffic is appreciable. But I dare say, the planning is very poorly done.

For example, they have opened the flyover in joy. But consider the road under the flyover (From Hi-Tech City to Gachibowli), a lane has been borrowed from the right and a lane has been added on the left. The right lane ends almost abruptly, if one drives respecting the lane marking, he'll end up being confused and panicked. I say, when a flyover is laid (Or any new change), proper adjustments must be made accordingly, which is not the case we see here.

Another example is the introduction of U-Turns to avoid signals. The Govt has introduced this change suddenly and just left it as is, without defining any rules pertaining to the U-Turns. For example, at various U-Turns, like the one at Y-Junction, Balanagar, the highway has several lanes. Vehicles including bikes and cars take the U-Turn from the last lane in the left, thus totally defeating the purpose of the system and creating a mess.

I feel a major change in a system, without a properly defined set of rules, is as good as a faulty system.

The main problem I see with this U-turn is the incoming traffic from Balanagar and proceeding towards Kukatpally is forced to join the left most lane and then switch to right lanes slowly. This is causing a bottleneck, especially during peak hours. Lakdikapul metro is another such junction which sees vehicles coming from Secratariat side merging with the Khairatabad side traffic. The right turn towards Masab Tank is a rather confusing one.

The only viable solution, to me, is constructing underpasses/flyovers. This is what the govt. is planning to do although not perfectly. This would at least mitigate the severe congestions we see everyday.

Re: Hyderabad: Updates on traffic - diversions, road expansions, alternate routes, etc.

Update - Y - Junction near Balanagar now has a signal

•Now the Y-Junction is being regulated by a signal, Just like old times.
•Not sure how this effects traffic in the peak times, but surely that U-Turn deserves an improvement.
•There is a free straight for traffic coming from ESI/S.R Nagar towards Kukatpally at the Y -Junction.
× Haven't travelled from Balanagar after this change and so can't really comment how it feels for traffic coming from that side.

Looks like the car is VW Polo GTI. I have seen in the pictures going around in WhatsApp show only 2 doors.

Police have arrested group of people who were involved in some riot at night on the Durgamcheruvu bridge. It looks like they are doing a photoshoot.

Re: Hyderabad: Updates on traffic - diversions, road expansions, alternate routes, etc.

Hyderabad folks I'm looking for suggestions on travel within Hyderabad.
I'm driving from Bangalore on a weekday and should be at ORR by 1 pm or so.
Google maps shows 3 routes from NH 44/ORR junction to Taj Banjara.Hyderabad: Updates on traffic - diversions, road expansions, alternate routes, etc.-screenshot_2022020616062155_3d9111e2d3171bf4882369f490c087b4.jpg 43 mins, 38 mins and 36 mins. The 36 mins route shows some construction work going on at the Southern end.
Which of the routes would be best/ easiest for me to reach my destination?
Thanks

Follow the below mentioned route, its the most straight forward and quickest.

https://goo.gl/maps/dRGaa5kE4u67kCSS9

If you havent been to Taj Banjara earlier, then please be aware that the entry into TB is a little tricky as it is a quick U-Turn to your left into the hotel.Should take you around 40-45mins from the airport junction to Taj Banjara in the afternoons. This is via the PVNR Elevated Expressway,so NH44 keep to the right most lane as the Expressway entry is from the right most lane. There is 6 laning is progress between the Airport Junction and PVNRE entry which is why you are seeing those road closures on the map, traffic is via the temporary road-nothing to worry.

This will hopefully ease up the traffic jam on the Gachibowli junction.

Re: Hyderabad: Updates on traffic - diversions, road expansions, alternate routes, etc.

I love the changes happening around this area.

Picture from today morning at around 9:30 AM as I was walking from Hafeezpet towards Kondapur.

Free flowing traffic on what used to be a nightmare road.

The flyover does need a few more signboards and a realistic speed limit.

I can't wait for the construction of the dedicated covered cycle track from TSPA to Gachibowli to completed. I might even restart my cycle commutes. I had to abandon them once traffic because very scary after 2019 or so on the service road.
