Re: Hyderabad: Updates on traffic - diversions, road expansions, alternate routes, et

Guys, anyone from Sainikpuri / Safilguda around? I read that the Army is going to close down the stretch leading from Shenoy Nursing Home to AOC Circle & also the one from Secunderabad Club to the circle.

While there's no uncertainty about the chaos this will cause, i'm left wondering how on earth they intend to do that , it will be inconvenient to say the least for people who live there and commuters who have been riding through for years in the past.

Does anyone have more on this?

Be ready for the mother of all jams in Secunderabad starting tomorrow.

AOC roads are going to be off limits thanks to a tiff between SCB and the Defence authorities and the perfect game of one upmanship is in progress.Safilguda residents would now have to travel more than double the distance to reach Marredpally via Neredmet-RK Puram Bridge-Trimulgherry X Roads-JB Stand-West Marredpally-East Marredpally. It is going to be unimaginable chaos on the roads from tomorrow.

The road thru AOC from Safilguda railway gate is going to be closed immediately after the gate.

Gough Line road is going to be closed after the MH Circle.

Wellington road is going to be closed after Wellington Enclave coming from W.Marredpally and Picket.

Allahabd Gate is going to be closed at the entry point from East Marredpally after the HP Pump.

There are huge barricades installed today and the entry points resemble a war zone with soldiers pitching tents, huge trucks in place to block entry and what not.Such a farce it has turned out into simply thanks to the nonsense between SCB and the defence. The stress on the Trimulgherry X Roads is unimaginable as that is going to be the only entry access point from Secunderabad into RK Puram,AS Rao Nagar,Sainikpuri,Safilguda,Malkajgiri. As expected APSRTC buses, school buses would be allowed to ply since residents inside the cantt need to use these services.

There is even a facebook page against this decision.

Thank you for the detailed post, Ranjit. I just can't seem to get my head around this. As you said, the traffic is going to be unbearable and for someone like me who works in Gachibowli, the entire commute is going to be one long jam. Riding in the cantonment was my only solace earlier.

Are the roads going to be permanently closed or will they allow night time traffic (10 PM - 8 AM)? This is what i read in the papers once but there hasn't been a more recent mention of this.

I wonder what the argument between the SCB & Army is and whether it can be resolved. There has to be a way out of this or else it's going to be catastrophic.

As per some news channels, a political rally will be held on 26 Feb in Hyderabad, welcoming one of their leaders who is coming from Delhi. The affected route is as follows: Begumpet Airport, Life style building, Somajiguda circle, Panjagutta, Kairathabad, Lakdikapul to Gunpark.

The rally is scheduled to start at 2.00 P.M from Begumpet Airport. So anyone using the above affected route, please be on guard.

While returning from work via the ORR, I was handed this pamphlet by the guy who is at the money collection counter.

Hyderabad: Updates on traffic - diversions, road expansions, alternate routes, etc.-20140226_001920.jpg

Hyderabad: Updates on traffic - diversions, road expansions, alternate routes, etc.-20140226_002020.jpg

Good initiative by the way. Lets see how many adhere and how are these monitored!

Sorry for the crappy pictures and editing.

^They gave this in the Gachibowli-APPA stretch as well.

No one really follows it.
Cars drive fast in the service lane. They think they are very smart but its plain foolish. That is the track with oil stains and debris.

Yesterday morning a truck with a flat tire was bang in the middle of the second lane. I informed a cop who was idling his time at the toll gate. Don't know what they did.

I sometimes see a patrol jeep behind a parked truck.

Last week it was stopping trucks right at the entry ramp making it dangerous for vehicles merging into ORR.

I have been using the 30 kms stretch of ORR from 1.2 years and keep seeing such instances everyday and I am almost used to such stuff on the ORR.

It's been 2 days since a truck has met with an accident but no one from the transporter (owner of the lorry) or the ORR guys themselves have come remove it rather they have decorated the road with stones and tree branches to make aware of the such an incident.

There is a long way to go till things stabilize around ORR and other streets in India.

At last some good news.

But the night-time restrictions on movement of civilian vehicular traffic on Army roads would continue to be in place for now.

Please check the below link for latest update..

Hope there will be a permanent solution to the problem soon.

Yesterday night while paying toll charges for the ORR at Patancheru, the guy at the counter smiled at me and said:

ORR Guy: From March first week all toll booths will be removed and no toll will be collected.

A pause of few seconds. .

Me: Jumping in my seat in happiness and asked him again clarifying that whether I heard it right out no! Asked him again whether toll as such will be stopped or the current company who collects tolls is leaving?

ORR Guy: Don't know sir but the current organization belongs to a UP firm who is leaving. After that don't know.

----------------

Have you guys heard of any such news/update?

This conversation started between him and me because I wanted to know if there is any system of monthly pass that I can use at a cheaper price instead of spending Rs 40 a day.

Let's wait and watch what happens and how things turn up.

I hope they don't do this.
Once the booths came up, the number of bikes and wrong side traffic had considerably reduced.

An UPDATE:

Just got time to speak to head who was at the Patancheru toll booth area, the company controlling it has applied for extension of the contract and results would be out by March end (Financial Year end actually). If their contract gets increased all goes as normal but if they don't then some other contractor will get charge.

Monthly/Yearly passes are issued by HMDA only for politicians and guys in that cadre. Not for the regular joe!

The wrong side and 2-wheeler traffic is still very much present. I still see young boys having a photo shoot in the rightmost-lane along with the trees planted on the divider, people doing meditation, jogging, running and yoga on the right most lane. I am serious. And I have seen a couple of near misses when trucks that keep chugging on the right most lanes miss these idiots who think the ORR is a park.

Only thing that has reduced is the dogs that cross the road.

After High Court stay, Army lifts road blockade.

For more information please see the below link.

Sadly, this is only till 6th March when the next hearing in the court would come up. Hope the judgement favours the common man.

Just saw these banners being put at the Exit's of the ORR.

This one was installed today at the Patancheru Exit.

My only question is - Who will monitor and keep a track of offenders and penalise them?

I can still see two wheelers on the ORR, I can still see Kingfisher bottles strewn on the ORR.
