Re: Govt mulls Annual toll pass at 3000 Rs and Lifetime toll pass at 30,000

I am usually not this pessimistic or skeptic, but pretty sure there will be exceptions and restrictions for this. Like you won't be able to use the annual pass on any expressways, or you can use it only on NHAI roads, and not things like the Vashi toll.

This is too sweet to be true. Sorry, but just my two cents.

This seems to be for National Highways only.

Everything else may be like state highways, city roads, etc. may not be covered.

Lets not be so optimistic. Pay Rs. 3000 for a month and drive around on any highway any number of times. It will most probably be confined to a certain route or a certain toll gate. If supposing I live in Delhi and I frequently visit Dehradun, they will give monthly pass for to & fro journey but not beyond that.

Re: Govt mulls Annual toll pass at 3000 Rs and Lifetime toll pass at 30,000

Our honorable Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari makes such statements every once in a while and then nothing happens. I sincerely hope this is not such a statement.

In March 2022, he announced that there would only be one toll plaza for 60 km of National Highway and all other plazas would be removed. In Tamilnadu, several toll plazas are within this 60km threshold, and from the recent announcements by NHAI, we can see that more toll plazas will be added flouting this 60 km norm (refer to link and pic below).

We are already paying for Rs 2 per km as toll charges and this is bound to increase as the number of toll plazas on national highways is expected to rise from 72 to 90 in the next 1-2 years.

If this becomes the rule, the Bangalore airport taxi folks with be over the moon and the highway operator who is making obscene revenues will be crying. Am sure the politicians will work with the big guy not to make this happen!

Re: Govt mulls Annual toll pass at 3000 Rs and Lifetime toll pass at 30,000

Wonder what this will be. I hope they ensure that toll plazas are evenly spaced out in NHAI and we get quality roads for the toll that we pay. The Bangalore - Chennai NHAI is atrocious between Chennai and Vellore and there is no way toll should be charged for such a poor highway.

There is no easy grievance mechanism as well for the users!

Quote:
Days after the Centre provided income tax relief to the middle class, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said the Narendra Modi government is now working on a uniform toll policy to benefit national highway users. Gadkari, the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister, said the commuters will get the relief "soon", in an interview with NDTV

Im guessing the Central Govt would have thought, the budget has rationalized the tax rates, bringing relief to tax payers. What is the need for a double benefit by way of tolls. I have not seen any other message or news article on this topic. Any updates that anyone knows of?

Mr. Gadkari appears to be giving hope for some good news on Tolls in the next few days, before April 1st. Im guessing this is the Annual and lifetime toll pass. Wait and watch

If someone did a psycho analysis of Morth, what will they call it?

From news of a possible reduction of Toll to the annual 3000, we are now greeted with https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/toll...s-nhai-8060975

Re: Govt mulls Annual toll pass at 3000 Rs and Lifetime toll pass at 30,000

I dont think the Annual 3000/- will ever come into effect. Its simply too low for regular users. There will be huge revenue loss for the toll operator and the govt. Even a short Bangalore<->Chennai trip will cover that cost in 4 runs.
