Bangalore ranked the most congested city in India; Mumbai second

Bangalore has been ranked the most congested city in India. It has the highest Traffic Quality Index (TQI) score, which puts it in the “extreme congestion” category (800-1000 points).

Mumbai ranks second with a TQI score of 787 points, followed by Delhi and Hyderabad with 747 points and 718 points, respectively.

According to Deepesh Agarwal, co-founder of Move In Sync, the Traffic Quality Index has been modelled after the Air Quality Index (AQI) to provide a clear understanding of traffic conditions. The data shows that the best time to navigate Bangalore is at 8 am, while traffic congestion is at its highest at 6 pm.

Anucheth M N, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), stated that even AI-powered cameras have struggled to manage traffic during peak hours. There are around 9,000 CCTV cameras across Bangalore. The data collected from these cameras is fed into map-based services to help develop solutions. The department now plans to install advanced tech-based traffic simulators at 55 key junctions in the city to ease traffic.

What's astonishing is Bangalore is still expanding and doesn't look like it will slowdown anytime soon.

Despite being a local Bengalooriga myself, the major reason why we moved abroad is simply because of the nauseating traffic which literally got on our nerves!!

Wife used to commute 3 hours one way from Whitefield to south blr in the evenings. This was way back in 2015-16.. We used to sit in the traffic and do nothing. Precious man hours wasted just navigating traffic. Absolute man made tragedy. We really got sick of it and got out of that hell. My heart aches to see my city go from a sleepy old town to a traffic hell hole.

A city designed for 3 million is crowded with 12 million residents! What did we expect?

Hyderabad traffic is going to get worse in the coming years. All the jobs and development are skewed towards Gachibowli and Hitech City areas. Half the city travels everyday from all other corners of the city to these areas. And the public transport availability is also patchy. Need new companies to set shop at different areas in the city to ensure traffic and travel time is managed well. Hope Metro phase II approved recently is completed quickly. It might allow some breathing space to the city.
