Sorry for OT, but weren't people arrested for this?

"two managers of his firm, two ticket booking clerks at the bridge, three security guards, and two contractors were arrested by police after the accident" along with the Oreva group MD

OT again but the answer to your question lies with the article itself that you shared. Oreva MD has been released from jail along with the other accused that you mentioned. That Ticket booking clerks and security guards were arrested for a major bridge collapse is itself a joke in the first place. The article that you shared also features a picture of people who lost their near and dear ones in the bridge collapse and are seeking justice for the past one year and no one is listening. The farcical arrests mean nothing when the actual perpetrators are roaming free. Hope that clears what I actually meant in my original post.

Who in your opinion are the actual perpetrators? The MD of the firm that was responsible for the bridge was arrested and his company had been ordered by HC to pay Rs.10L to each victim's kin and Rs.2L to the injured. (Wonder if they did pay that...)

As for him being released from Jail, he is out on bail and not been declared innocent.

Make no mistake, I am in no way defending the people involved. Just saying that people have been held accountable.

But all of this amounts to far less than a slap on the wrist, no?

Does any one of us have any real expectation that anything will really happen to any of the people actually involved in the sanction and construction of that hoarding? Both from the local government side and the the firm that actually put up the hoarding?

Personally, I don't. And to me, some uncomfortable publicity in the press for a short period, that is not justice at all. The MD needs to be charged and soon, not after 20 years and that too with a suspended sentence. The head of the local government department that sanctioned the illegal-sized hoarding needs to be charged too, not merely transferred.
