Re: How do I remember my parking spot in huge parking lots

On a lighter note, tie a baloon to the car and you will be able to spot it from a distance provided you remember on which floor the car was parked!

Ideal way is marking the parking lot in iOS or google. It helps better than clicking the picture and then having to delete it.

Re: How do I remember my parking spot in huge parking lots

Google Maps 'Save your parking' features works very well in open ground level parking lots. In multi-level ones, you will need to remember at least the floor you parked on.

Re: How do I remember my parking spot in huge parking lots

Its all very tricky in places like Palika parking in Delhi. What is ground floor from one end is actually basement from the other. Top it with the fact that Connaught place is a circle
We now give the task of remembering the parking spot to the kid as a fun exercise.

Re: How do I remember my parking spot in huge parking lots

Two things I do :-

1. Like many people have already said, click a photograph of the nearest pillar and WhatsApp to self/family group.

2. My Ecosport's key fob has a good "locate me" function. If you press the lock button twice, the horn beeps. I use it in multi level parkings extensively. Works for me.

When simply clicking on Thanks and 2 smilies per post is simply not enough.

Let me add something more meaningful besides the adulations, just in case ...

Never use you keyfob to unlock you car from afar just to identify it. Especially in an unknown basement parking. Especially ladies. Someone could easily be waiting by your car and get in un-noticed while you are walking towards it.

Cheers, Doc

Re: How do I remember my parking spot in huge parking lots

Struggled once in Europe once at outdoor carpark; was in total rush and forgot to note the location or any identifiers. Took around 10-15 minutes to locate the car finally. Otherwise I also follow the simple process of taking a picture of the lot number.

But why someone should WhatsApp the photo? Just taking the picture should be sufficient right?

Re: How do I remember my parking spot in huge parking lots

So, I'm not the only one having this concern. I have lost the track of the car parking on many instances, especially when I'm traveling and in an unknown territory. Couple of things have saved me,

1) As what others have mentioned, taking the picture of the pillar.

2) and Hey Siri, remember where I parked my car (for iPhone users), The maps will pop up indicating the location of your car. The parked car location is automatically saved when you connect your phone to your car. This can be via Apple CarPlay or Bluetooth. Even will show Parked Car Waypoint On apple Watch Face.

Simple settings which needs to be switched on;

Settings>> Privacy & Security>> Location Services>> System Services>> Significant Locations

Settings>> Maps>> Show Parked Location

This is how my Parked car is being shown on the apple maps, as I write.

Re: How do I remember my parking spot in huge parking lots

Taking a picture of the pillar number seem to be the best, easiest thing here. You don't even need to WhatsApp the pic to yourself or anyone else.

No offense meant to others, but using Apps/Maps/other technologies to locate the car seem to be an overcomplicated solution for a problem for a which simple solution already exists.

Most modern cars ( reference to my 5 year old Ford) has a button in keyfob which lights up the parking bulbs just for the sake of spotting the car or for finding your way in dark after leaving car , without disarming the lock.

Even pressing the lock button in keyfob of an already locked car will trigger the horn and parking lamps in most cars. The horn function is very handy when the parking area is crowded and its difficult to spot the lights.

Re: How do I remember my parking spot in huge parking lots

Why would one need to send the photo of the pillar to their spouse or family group?
You could simply just open the photo in your album to remind yourself of the location.

I don’t think so it’s an overcomplicated solution for the situation when you don’t have a reference pillar to take the picture. This reminds me of the first F-1 race at BIC, where we almost lost serious number of hours finding our car after the race in a vast vast make shift parking area. If this technology would have been there at that time, we wouldn't have wasted the time.

Anyway as said by others, most of the times, easy peasy click of pillar with number works.

I guess this is because you are solving this problem only for situations you have personally encountered (places with numbered pillars etc.). It needn't always be so well-defined.

My hometown (Calicut) has a very long beach promenade (the so-called Beach Road, which is 10+ km long). All along this road kerbside parking is permitted. On one side all you have for a landmark is the vast expanse of the Arabian Sea (oh, the irony). On the other side, a series of unmarked, hole-in-the-wall type small eateries (ice creams, snacks, cafes...). The photo technique doesn't really work for most people here.

Another place where I have first-hand experience is the area around Commercial Street in Bangalore - a veritable warren of narrow streets with maybe an occasional big-brand, POI-worthy store but mostly very small ones.

The phone offers this as a feature, so I don't see why I shouldn't use it.

Agreed. A pillar may not be always be there, but definitely there should be some kind of an identifier nearby - a noticeable building, structure, a huge tree, a shop, the road itself. I am talking about 99% of cases here.

.
Yes, edge cases are always there. Like having to park somewhere where there are ZERO identifiers - like in a desert or seaside like you said. I was talking about 99% of cases

Re: How do I remember my parking spot in huge parking lots

I have an MG EV and the app provided with the car is quite helpful in defining route to the parked car. It is perfectly accurate, unless I have parked at -3 level.

I can also use the app to switch / blink light and blow horn.

Clicking a pic of the nearest piller is always good.
