this is a fun thread reading about some of the long drives / trips / non stops

My longest solo drive in a single day: Anantapur (AP 02) to Mumbai via chitradurga (NH4 from Chitradurga to Pune and MPEW to Mumbai). took me around 16 hours including food, comfort breaks, toll gates and one fuel fill stop. 1 bad traffic jam before entering Pune consumed around 45 mins.

Distance ~ 995 kms Time taken ~ 16 hours. Car: Jetta HL AT

My Longest drive has been from Vishakapatnam to Bangalore via Chennai in Oct 2011, 1200 Kms -19 Hours in Scorpio

My longest drive was from Nagercoil to Chennai. What was initially planned was Nagercoil to Bangalore-around 650 KMs. But a phone call changed it all when we reached Salem and ended up going to Chennai instead. Hence approximately 1000Kms. Took about 16 hours to complete in my humble Alto Lxi.

My longest trip was from Dallas, Texas to Mena, Arkansas through the Talimena scenic drive. Round trip is around 850km. Did it twice - once on Kawa-Vulcan and once on SRT4. Avoided freeways as far as possible going through back country roads. Total trip time - 12hrs.

I have driven to Mumbai from Bangalore and back 3 times. It is around 1020 KM on each side. Took around 18 hours of time in one direction with 3 breaks, one hour break for lunch, two tea breaks of 30 min each. I drove in Santro all the times and was trying to maintain 80-90KMPH of speed. That way longest trip for me was of 2050KMs Bangalore-Mumbai-Bangalore.

Around 1050 km Lansdale, PA to Gatlinburg , TN (Smoky mountains) in 2001 - probably in a Chevy Impala (rental)
Around 1000 km - Lansdale , PA to Acadia National Park, Maine twice - 2002 - first time in a 1996 model Toyota Corolla and second time in 2003 - in a 1998 model Honda Civic.
Both sold.

Approx. 500 km. from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata incl. stopovers for breakfast, breaks and lunch .. in 9 hours. Trip done in May 2011, in my SX4 ZXI. Hope to break next the 1000 km. barrier, subject to permit from my home minister :-)

I have done 2 1000KM+ trips (in a day) till date.
The first one was from Thane to Bangalore, a distance of about 1000 KMs done in about 17 Hours with about 3 stops taking 3 hours.
The second one was from Bangalore to Nagpur, a distance of about 1100 KMs, done in 16 Hrs with 3 stops

Longest solo drive in a day had to be from thekkady to bangalore in 2013 and palani to chennai in 2011 both around 500 odd kms.. Longest trip driven solo was bangalore - chennai - kumbakonam - trichy - palani - chennai - bangalore, over a period of 5 days.. not sure what the total kms done was..

The longest I did was 2700 kms in 3 days.
Men - Myself, Younger Brother, and Close friend.
Machine - Zen Estilo LXi (then 2 years old)
When - Dec, 2010.
Any prep/homeworks - NONE - usual toolkit, clothes, some water, gums. Had just an hour to prepare.

Reason - Since 2005,I visit Tirupati every December. So for my visit for Dec 2010, I had booked the accomodation, Darshanam and train tickets. However, thanks to the known shortage of south bound trains from Pune, my train tickets did not get confirmed! Dear wifey was visiting her natives. I waited till last moment, however the train chart got prepared and no chance.
I HAD TO GO, so decided and shared this with my close friend and he immediately agreed to come with me. Informed my younger brother (in different company in Pune), he first denied, but agreed by the time we tanked up, aired up etc etc. We all started @11PM from Pune.

Route - Pune - Sholapur - Bijapur - Bellary - Kadapa - Tirupati - Chennai (on the fly detour) - Bangalore - Chitradurg - Hubli - Kolhapur - Pune (almost 2700 kms).

We, at the start itself had decided this has to be a pure bachelors trip - food, fun, sight seeing, but NO DRINKS, NO OVERSPEEDING (80-100 was the range decided).

Though we did not get that typical sleep, we used to get power naps on the rear seat. I drove for almost 80% of the distance - such was (and still is) the craze for driving in me.

Results - 1. Darshanam done successfully

2. Obviously the trip details was to be disclosed to parents and wifey only after the
trip itself

..... (so immature and kiddish we used to be just 3 years before).
After disclosing our so called adventure, the words we heard was - "zara samjhaoge ye truck drivers ki usual inter state travel aaplogo ke liye adventurous kaise ho gayi" ( would you please explain how comes this "usual truck driver's interstate travel" means an adventure to you? )

Obviously, and for good - that was the last one of its kind. I (We) will not do it again without proper stops, however no doubt we lived our "befikar" college life during those 3 days!

Another solo non-stop I could remember was in March 2011 when I drove alone from Pune to Chennai. Started at 3AM from Kharadi, Pune and Reached Bangalore by 4PM or so (includes a 2 hours sleep at the hotel I had lunch midway), and Started from Bangalore at 5 PM and reached Chennai by around Midnight.
almost 1100kms in 21 hours.

Probably mine will be the longer drives here, one was West to East from Kota in Rajasthan, to Shillong in Meghalaya, via Kolkota to avoid the bad roads of Bihar, also dacoits ! Car was a Maruti Zen older 1998 model, distance 2500 km!
The second was Shillong to Cochin in Kerala! Total distance some 3500 kms over 7 days in a Palio D. No it was not exactly a holiday or adventure trip, just an army officer moving on transfers! After that its been shorter trips in better cars like the new honda city and vento, waiting to drive from Kanyakumari to Kargil!

I drove solo from Coimbatore to Navi Mumbai (Kalamboli), in April this year.

Statistics :
Suzuki Swift Vxi (2006)
1310 Kms
26 hours (including stops)
25 tolls, I forgot how much they totalled upto

I took 3 stops on the way, one of which was sleeping for 90 mins in a parking lot.
The other two were 30 minute breaks for eating.

I know it was a little foolish to attempt such a long drive alone, but I wanted to challenge my decision making process - I should take a break vs continue etc

It was an incident free journey, one this I missed was cruise control.
