| Re: Longest Drives! My longest drive till date was from Pune to Chennai in March 2010. It was 1200 kms in a single day. Both driver and myself drove alternatively. I probably drove 600 kms. It was done on my humble Alto LXi  Started around 3.30am at Yerawada, Pune. Reached Belgaum around 7am. ( or 6 am. don't remember the exact timing ). The next milestone I could gather was reaching Bangalore Outer Ring road at 2.50pm Reached Krishnagiri at 5.30 pm. Took an hours rest, and started for Chennai at 6.30pm And finally reached T Nagar, Chennai at 9.15pm. The fuel efficient alto yielded 20kmpl and consumed two tanks. |

My longest drive was Ooty-Chennai 650km approx is a Premier Padmini with headers  And the bonnet flew open on the highway  Thankfully managed to stop at the side of the road without any mishap.Done Bangalore-Ooty more times that I can count (Still my favourite drive, especially the Mysore to Ooty stretch and Kalhatti Ghats). Done this stretch on my RD 350, RE 500, Shogun, Zen (Sold), Esteem (Sold), Lancer and a Lamby!!! |

| Re: Longest Drives! The longest I've done is Mysore-Pune, which was about 950 kms and took ~15 hrs. We left at 330 AM from Mysore, and reached Pune at 2030 hrs with a short detour into chitradurga. Done in a humble Tata Nano LX  |

Pun - Mum - Pun approx 400 Kms Pun - Goa approx 425 Kms Pun - Hyd approx 530 Kms All the above journeys have been undertaken multiple times in various vehicles ranging from Alto to Innova & from an open top Mahindra Classic to Jetta Bangalore - Conoor - Bangalore - In Ford Ikon Distance - 600 Kms It was a beautiful drive & the Conoor Tea estates gave a lot of beautiful photo opportunities. Also got to click a lot of wild life pics while driving though Mudumalai National Park. Pun - Blr - 3 times - once in Corolla & twice in Ford Ikon. Distance - 850 Kms Took anywhere between 11 - 12 hrs on these trips. I was the sole driver & made stops for breakfast, lunch & fuel. Usually started around 5 am & reached the destination before sunset - I prefer this to reaching late in the evening. Maybe its just me, but (I guess) psychologically I feel more tired if I reach a place later in the evening rather than before sunset - even with a similar journey. Indore - Delhi - In M800 Distance 834 Kms - Via Guna - Shivpuri - Gwalior - Agra It was olden days (1997) & the roads & traffic are not what we are used to on NH. Driving such long distances was not very common, I was young & loved driving (still do) so it was a proper adventure for me. Haridwar - Badrinath - Kedarnath - Haridwar - in Premier Padmini Distance - 740 Kms (over 3 days) This was a family trip & I was not the only driver here. There were 3 cars with 13 of us as a part of the trip Haridwar - Jalandhar - Dalhousie - Khajiar - McLeod Ganj - Jalandhar - Haridwar Distance - 1300 Km (approx) - in Santro (over 3 days) This was a total fun trip with friends & did not have any reservations. Just picked up the car & left No GPS navigation or map planning so had a good time getting lost on our way from Jalandar to Dalhousie & went through some back roads in failing light before making it to our destination for the day.The longest & most tiring journey for me was in 2002 Delhi - Makrana - Meerut - in Santro Distance 950 Kms Makrana as you know is a small place in Rajasthan know for its Marble quarries When we were building our house, dad decided to go buy the marble from there as the price differential (even with transportation) was significant as compared to what we could buy from the market & also the choices were much more. I started driving @ 5:00 am from Delhi & after all the breaks & deciding on the marble etc, reached back to Meerut only @ 1 O' clock that night. I was dead tired & my feet were aching. |
