Re: Samruddhi Mahamarg: 701 km super expressway will connect Nagpur to Mumbai

I am planning to drive from Mumbai to Tadoba via Samruddhi exp way tomorrow. Seeing a number of posts on routes, I have two basic queries:

1. Can I join Samruddhi near or after ghoti? If yes, does anyone have the correct map link?

2. How much time it should take between shirdi and wardha stretch of mahamarg if driven between 90-100kms?

3. If I start from Mumbai around 4AM, can I reach Tadoba (Moharli) with in 12 hours with sufficient breaks?

If you folks have any other better route suggestion, feel free to provide.

For 2 - Keep 5-6 Hours from Shirdi to Wardha. Depending on how many breaks you take.
For 3. Wardha to Tadoba is 2-3 hours depending on whether you are going to Moharli, Navegaon or Kolara side. Road is very good. Last few kilometres will be internal roads but traffic free.

1. Nobody knows exact entry point, since the extension inauguration has not happened yet. Closest point on Ghoti-Sinnar is the Bharvir Khurd village mentioned here (Samruddhi Mahamarg: 701 km super expressway will connect Nagpur to Mumbai).

2. 4.5 hours at 116 kph cruise with 10 minute break. I'd guesstimate 6 hours.

Yes this is the correct entry point and it has about 500-700 mtr mud track leading to HBT Samruddhi highway.

While going it does save about an hour to reach shirdi entry point. Since I went through straight, I didnt had the entry slip or Fastag entry to provide at my exit point. The toll guy manually charged the toll amount which I paid via card.

While returning also I took the route beyond shirdi. The Road is almost ready and may be opened anytime soon.

Can you please post your trip and route detail if you have completed the trip. Driving to Tadoba from Pune early June so would be helpful.

I started from Mumbai around 4:30AM on 28th April and joined start of Samruddhi after Ghoti as above. Samruddhi stretch till Wardha is about 500kms and sedate speed (I did 100kmph cruze) should take you about 5-6 hours depending on breaks. One HP petrol bunk about 50kms prior to Aurangabad is open and next one is about after 250-280kms. I stayed near Moharli gate and reached there by 6pm with 4-5 breaks. Consider almost no eating options untill you reach Wardha.

Tadoba as such has a number of entry gates and you should book the stay and safari requiring minimal movement as you are traversing through the core animal area.

Re: Samruddhi Mahamarg: 701 km super expressway will connect Nagpur to Mumbai

Hi Guys!

Planning a road trip to Bandhavgarh National Park in the month of May.

Driving my Ford Freestyle, 4 of us and 2 drivers.

Following is the plan:

Onward Journey:

25th May - Departure at 4 am from Thane, tentative Halt in Jabalpur with a distance of 1000 kms, seems doable due to Samruddhi Expressway.

26th May - Will be joined by 4 other friends in their car and drive onwards to Bandhavgarh which is a distance of 200 kms and an easy drive

Our main issue is the return journey.

29th May: We will be doing the morning safari and post that should be able to depart around 12 noon. Considering the peak heat and late departure, I am guessing we would not be able to drive more than 6 - 8 hours and have thought of a halt at Nagpur.

30th May : Complete the Nagpur to Thane Journey by departing early morning.

I am comfortable to drive for 8 - 10 hours with short breaks and so is the other driver.

Need assistance in the following:

1) Entry point for the expressway and need info on the rest stops and fuel stops

2) Being peak May heat, how helpful is Nitrogen in tyres, will be replacing my tyres before the trip as the car has done 56k kms as of today

3) Halt option on the return Journey, preferably close to the expressway around Nagpur.

Any other tips and suggestions are welcome.

Hope all accident prone zones are properly investigated like this one!

Four students of Transport Department of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur studied for three months. From this study, information has come out that most accidents are due to hypnosis. These students conducted this study in a 100 km area on the highway.
If the highway is straight without obstacles, your car also runs in one direction. In this your body movement is still, your brain is also not active. This state is called highway hypnosis. Many vehicles are causing accidents due to hypnosis. 33 percent of the total accidents are due to highway hypnosis.

Re: Samruddhi Mahamarg: 701 km super expressway will connect Nagpur to Mumbai

Hi all, is the Sinnar-Shirdi portion of Samruddhi highway open for public now?

I traveled from Shirdi to Pench on 30th April 2023. We encountered rain lashes on the expressway and hailstorm. This slowed down our pace drastically. There was no visibility in certain areas during the rainstorm. However, the expressway is really good but there are no washrooms which poses great difficulty for female travelers. I hope they fix it soon.

Highway hypnosis is a phenomenon that can strike someone who claims to love long drive but doesn't connect with the roads and the vehicle while at the wheel and this is one reason why you will see most of such drivers exhibit traits even on regular dual carriageway roads that are devoid of such traffic. I had few months back highlighted about how Samruddhi Mahamarg is just another expressway where highway hypnosis can kick in if you are just another driver wanting to reach Point B from Point A. This was when we drove to Samruddhi in January.

If you belong to the former category, you will get bored in under 30 minutes and this will perhaps be the sole reason for highway hypnosis on this road.
Hence, it is extremely important to stay connected with the car and the road through the entirety of such expressway runs, keep shoulder checking every minute, stay hydrated, change the monotony (vary speeds, munch something, change that soundtrack or even stop the music for a while).

Quoting myself. The Sinnar Shirdi portion was not open to public yet as on May 5th, 2023. The toll booth person said there is still some work pending and hence the delay in opening.
Further, while traveling from Shirdi to Mumbai, I saw that much work on Kasara ghat section is still pending but it’s going on in full steam from what I witnessed. However, it might still be some time before whole of the Samruddhi expressway opens up.

Was in Samruddhi today driving from Wardha to Shirdi and back. One of the workers at the toll booth says that another 80km stretch after Shirdi will be opened on 10 May.

Re: Samruddhi Mahamarg: 701 km super expressway will connect Nagpur to Mumbai

An under construction flyover collapsed near Igatpuri section in the evening around 4pm on 9th May'23. So, expect delays in the completion of Bharvir--Mumbai section of Samruddhi Mahamarg. Anyhow, the stipulated period of 6 months was ambitious, now we can only expect it to take even longer, may be during last 3 months of 2024. That period will see completion of 4 big projects in Maharashtra though -- Samruddhi Mahamarg phase 2, Missing link of Mumbai--Pune Expressway, Khambatki ghat twin tunnels and new link on NH4 between Pune--Satara and pending 4 laning of 200 km odd stretch of NH17 Mumbai--Sawantwadi/Goa.

Samruddhi Mahamarg Entry Point from Shirdi. Take left and you are on the entry ramp towards Nagpur.

I fueled up the car just before the entry point at Indian Oil.

Google Maps Link of fuel pump.

From here to Nagpur is roughly 500 kms which meant could easily do complete highway without stopping again for fuel.

There are fuel/rest stops enrote highway.

No need of Nitrogen. Get a 12V Cigarette Socket Digital Tyre pump and fill up 1-2 PSI more than recommended tyre pressure. Air is 80% nitrogen.

If your tyre have 2-3 mm tyre tread left, can easily do the trip. X1 did it without any issue. 1.6 mm is legal limit for changing tyres.

Plus tyre tread matter during rains and has no bearing on tyre blowouts which is more due to underinflation.

Max temp I encountered during last week of April 2023 onwards to Tadoba was 32 Degree on highway.

Re: Samruddhi Mahamarg: 701 km super expressway will connect Nagpur to Mumbai

Just did Nagpur Mumbai via Samruddhi yesterday on 10 May 2023.

Attaching the log of the trip.

Samruddhi Mahamarg: 701 km super expressway will connect Nagpur to Mumbai-2023.05.10travulognagpurmumbaisamruddhighoti.jpg

Above, Shirdi darshan was not my agenda and we could not do it also.
But the 1 hour was just got spent in Shirdi due to various reasons at Shirdi.

Samruddhi Mahamarg: 701 km super expressway will connect Nagpur to Mumbai-img_20230510_065123.jpg

Pressure was going up to 40 with initial top-up of 36.

I Should have actually kept 33-34 initially even with the luggage loaded in the Innova with just 2 of us in car and with summer conditions.

However, made a stop under an overbridge shadow on shoulder with emergency lights on.

All vehicles including heavy vehicles were too courteous to see it from far and move to middle lane with my tyre pressure control work in progress.

Reduced to 36 and carried forward.

Samruddhi Mahamarg: 701 km super expressway will connect Nagpur to Mumbai-img_20230510_075724.jpg

Most of the stretches upto Shirdi I was feeling like the whole road was built for me with no one in sight at both ends of long stretches backwards and forwards.

Amazing road to drive and one with much of straight terrain, absolutely fit for higher speeds. I tried all speeds I could.

It instantly reminded me of the pristine clean and empty newly opened Mumbai Pune Expressway back then reaching end locations in much less than 1.5 hours frequently.

Its a shame people are taking things for granted and not adhering to probably basic etiquettes of driving and safety especially with tyres and control.

This is such a pristine road which should not be blemished due silliness of Nuts Behind the Steering Wheels.

Fuel Top-Up before Aurangabad and just before Tunnels.

Some points :

1. Fuel Pumps
Did not find many Fuel Pumps on way. I have tried to locate a few as with my a bit rough notations above in log. It is possible I missed somethings.

Right and Left mean respective to the Nagpur to Mumbai direction and Samruddhi Marking mean the KM mark of Samruddhi going from Nagpur to Mumbai direction.

There are as best I could do with sole driving and taking notes. There could be minor aberrations, but Samruddhi Markings are definitely nearabout the ones mentioned as they are from their markings only.

2. Speed Guns
I did not observe any speed cameras so far, tried spotting even behind boards while driving.

At many places there are breaks in the meridien for emergency crossing fitted with openable barricade gates just like Railway crossings.

At some such places there were a few Patrol Ertigas posted, I presume with speed cameras. Especially one I spotted nearing Shirdi with open dicky and definitely having speed camera on mount in the dicky. However, so far not received any speed ticket. I am hoping it stays that way and they will have kind heart to find forgiveness for my driving.

3. Food and water
Pls stock with self enough for the trip. We had our homemade puris and enough home water stocked. The nearest you will find proper food will be Shirdi hotels.

4. Safety precautions
a. Tyres
Tyres get very hot even at milder mornings even at decent speeds.
Do keep safe pressure as per weather and loading of the vehicle.
Better to have TPMS installed and monitor and control the pressure as the need arises.

b. Driving
Pls follow absolute discipline, mind control whatever speed you do. Pls do not blame the highway. Do not get into zombi mode with long straight uninterrupted terrains. Keep eyes, hands, feet, head and neck mobile regularly, keep regularly checking all mirrors so that eye neck and head will keep awake at all times and keep shifting sitting positions.

5. Shirdi to Mumbai
There is no way to make from Shirdi to Mumbai even upto beyond Sinnar point from Shirdi interchange, they have just blocked it. The way is through the old highway only which is decent with some bad patches in between and lots of old twishy fun ghat road which we have done plenty of times in past but which was in horrible conditions long back. It goes through some in-progress Samruddhi parts which at some points is just beginning too.
