Max you lose is Rs. 250 and nothing from your wallet or maybe I didnt have sufficient balance that he didn't try that way

Reading through in more detail you are correct. Sigh I am not sure what Paytm is playing at, this sort of scam is not rocket science to detect, but I suppose they don't want to antagonise their agents and allow such small frauds.

Re: Beware: PayTM Fastag scam via agents

I had a horrible time with PayTM even without the agents involved. The left two tags inactive for almost a year. It was activated less than a month ago for a purchase I made last November. The wallet made things seem easy but I should've just gone to the bank and got it done. Not to mention that they mixed up the tag numbers on activation which meant I had to buy new tags again. Overall a really harrowing experience.

I myself, got the PayTM fastag online via the app last year, but it was delivered after 10 days in Delhi. Some people i know got it after 1 month albeit they live in rural Northern plains.

Re: Beware: PayTM Fastag scam via agents

It's such an outrageous system that Paytm has. I have been taken pillar to post for simple re-issuance of a damaged fast tag where they wanted an additional 250/- as security deposit for reissuing a tag that I have already paid the security deposit for. I have been using the fast tag much before it was made mandatory because of the numerous Kerala - Bangalore runs. The less talked about Paytm's customer service the better. The customer care is pathetic at best. They sometime's don't know squat about any payment issue that happens. And other times they don't know diddly squat. But I let it all slide.

Why ? For one advantage, which I can't stress enough, the presence of the wallet system. It's not connected to any of my bank accounts and I can be at peace that some scammer or con artist isn't gonna sweep my bank account clean. And the ability to maintain a single wallet and a single app and page to keep track of 4 of my cars is a definite advantage. Unless there's a provider who can put all my fastags in a single window and connect it to a single wallet or credit card (Credit cards are safer in case of fraud because they won't charge you for the scammed amount) I'm sticking with Paytm. Because if someone does scam me all that I'm gonna lose is the measly amount in my wallet.
So I focus on that very thin silver lining .

I have mixed experience with Paytm.
- First tag, the order was cancelled twice, exactly on the day of dispatch stating 'Seller could not satisfy the order' and third attempt for it delivered in 2 weeks
- 2nd tag delivered in 2 weeks (in-line with the expected delivery date)
- 3rd tag & replacement of 2nd one were delivered in less than a week's time
In all 3 cases seller and shipment address remained same

Have you applied online (through app) or through the agent?
I booked my replacement tag through App and it deducted only 100 INR

True. This makes paytm a preferred service provider for Fastag

After unsuccessful initial attempts with Paytm, got tags from Equitas and faced numerous issues.
- Successful wallet loading depends on my stars
- Individual tags to be loaded again (from wallet) I'm not sure if it same still
- KYC completion was a pain

Quote:
- 1st branch - KYC not required saar, it is already done (though I was getting reminder SMS and wallet loading through credit card was blocked due to pending KYC verification)
- 2nd branch - Collected my documents, noted down the tag details behind RC copy. When asked about the KYC form - 'no such form for Fastag saar, only for saving & loan accounts we need form'
- 3rd branch - Saar, you need to open a savings account with us. We will link your Fastag wallet directly to your account
- 2nd branch 2nd attempt - Met the manager and submitted again along with KYC form, after 2 hours got a SMS stating KYC was rejected. I had to contact their customer care to understand that only the KYC form was submitted from the branch without any KYC document
- Tag closure was another story
Quote:
- 1st tag - raised a closure request through App (or site, couldn't recall) and it was closed in a couple of days and the caution deposit was credited to my bank account (it asks for bank details to process the refund)
- 2nd one I retained for couple of months to consume to wallet balance. Since the tag balance went below the threshold limit, tag closure couldn't be processed. To load the wallet I was asked to verify the KYC again
That's the end of story with Equitas and switched all my tags to Paytm.

Could you explain how someone can access my bank account from FASTAG?
I have a Kotak FASTAG. The portal access is based on a separate userID/password. You can also login using mobile + OTP. But it is not connected to my bank account in any way that i can see.
You can recharge the FASTAG balance by sending money to your car-specific UPI id (NETC.RegisteredVehicleNumber@Kotak).
Am i missing something here?
How is PayTM safer?
Not being rhetorical, I'm genuinely curious.

Re: Beware: PayTM Fastag scam via agents

Good question Stewie and i quite agree.

I use the ICICI Bank Fastag. It is not linked to any of my savings account. I don't have a savings account either with ICICI bank. All I do is to recharge the Fastag account with a few hundreds at best, and at no point of time will I have any balance greater than 300 bucks. This is what I thought is the safest bet, since it is just the Fastag account with a unique User ID and Pwd and not linked to any wallet or account or credit card.

EVM Isuzu had issued me a Fast tag from The South Indian Bank which somehow I got a message that it has been activated. And I was told that there's no need for KYC as it was connected to my bank account and I can recharge at will. Scared my socks off. Immediately changed to Paytm.

Re: Beware: PayTM Fastag scam via agents

Hi,

While we are at it, makes me wonder that happens to the people who get it from the dealers as a part of the car purchase?

I see my new car's tag in my paytm profile. However, the security deposit and threshold against it is zero! Makes me wonder what happened to the 500 rupees given to the dealer?

Are they just scamsters as well? Sitting behind the glass walls?

Or is it just me? Who is unlucky in this transaction?

Regards!

Did you get a fasttag breakdown invoice like mentioned is one of the posts in page 1?

If not I guess we have just opened a can of worms and lets see where this rabbit hole takes us.

Nope, that does not work! The only thing, that its showing on a popup is the number 0 against security deposit!

What about Accounts Balance & history, does it show any amount against fasttag?

Something like below:

Sadly if you dont have invoice, i guess it is not mentioned anywhere.

Re: Beware: PayTM Fastag scam via agents

I had bought fastags from PayTM last year when it was made mandatory and paid 400 each, 250 being security deposit and 150 being wallet balance.
I just checked the PayTM app and it still shows the security balance amount for the tags at Rs 250.
Although I have never seen the 150 wallet being used; it always deducts the amount from my regular wallet to keep the balance at 150.
