Re: Pics: Your first post-lockdown highway drive

Not exactly a highway drive, it was just on outskirts of Bangalore. A drive of around 70KMs one side.

For those from Bangalore, this is the approximate location

Re: Pics: Your first post-lockdown highway drive

Went home for some work. First highway drive after almost 7 months. Weather was perfect, traffic was a little sparse compared to pre covid-19 days. Car was recently serviced a few days back, and was as smooth and fast as ever. Pics taken on Durgapur expressway near Gurap.

On the way back home the next day, we also happened to spot deer which incidentally crossed our path. Had fun driving my uncle's Compass for close to 600-kms in two days. This was my first proper highway drive with the Compass too.

Wow. Where was the deer spotting?

How do you compare the driving experience of the Compass vis a vis the Hexa and the mileage figures?

Did quite a few weekend drives post-lockdown!
Includes drive to Dandeli, Belgaum and a few early morning joy rides to near-by places.

Please excuse the poor composing and quality of the pictures. This post-lockdown journey was undertaken with my Fiat Palio Stile 1.1, from my home town in Pathanamthitta to Palakkad, both in Kerala.
Pics: Your first post-lockdown highway drive-41.jpg

It was a unique experience, flavoured with curiosity, a bit of anxiety and some joy.

As soon as the lockdown lifted, my father and I hit the road to Lucknow since we had to get some stuff sorted pertaining to our house in Lucknow as the new tenants were shifting in and also we had to get some household paraphernalia back to Noida which was stored in our home in Lucknow.

Ariana (yep, that is what I call her ) getting to stretch her legs on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway after almost 3.5 months of sitting in the driveway!

Ariana decked up with the items to be taken back to Noida:

Team-BHP's official review referred to the Aria as having a van-like design, well guess what, I am actually using her as a van on this particular trip!

Noida-Lucknow-Noida roundtrip done.

Of the ~1100kms indicated, almost 90% of the distance was driven by yours truly with papa only getting to drive the intial 100-odd kms from Noida on the Greater Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway till Mathura for a fuel stop post which we drove non-stop to Lucknow and similarly, we tanked up at Lucknow and drove non-stop to Noida with me behind the wheel for the entirety of the journey.

For the drive which I undertook (Noida to Lucknow and back), I did not require any sort of E-pass since we were in the same state throughout (Uttar Pradesh). This was during Unlock-1, however, I believe that the Noida Authority ordered an institutional quarantine (for anyone entering Noida) soon after the number of cases started rising in the Gautum Budh Nagar district. The situation would've been different if say you were going from Delhi to Lucknow, in which case you would've required a pass to cross the Delhi-UP border.

Some pics to celebrate the end of the lockdown!

2010 Skoda Laura 1.9PD TDI - Code6 tuned
2009 Honda City S (auto)
2005 Ford Ikon 1.3 flair

P.S: Do let me know if anyone is interested in ownership reports on these machines. Both the Ikon and the Laura were bought pre-worshiped and ownership has been an eventful experience, to say the least

Re: Pics: Your first post-lockdown highway drive

Well I have been going for short rides after restrictions were lifted. And I found a new hobby:

Plane spotting near the new runway of Bangalore Airport:

Someone else also feels the need, the need for speed:

When I don't take to the real streets, I have got the virtual one: Forza Horizon 4

Re: Pics: Your first post-lockdown highway drive

Karnataka formally lifted lockdown, statewide, on 01 August 2020.

That very day, Dr.AD and me broke free, breaking tarmac, with a symbolic 180 km roundtrip on NH 48/75

Thanks for your kind words, i am anything but professional. Those photos are clicked by my humble One plus 7t pro camera. Just ended up being at the right place at right time to capture the double rainbow, was a first for me too. All the photos are without any filters

Glad you like them.

Re: Pics: Your first post-lockdown highway drive

Lockdown made most of us confined to our abodes.

As lockdown eased a bit, I have been to Rachakonda Waterfalls (after taking proper safety measures like sanitising frequently, wearing respirator with P100 filters). It was an amazing experience and loved every moment of it.

Sharing some photographs.

Re: Pics: Your first post-lockdown highway drive

We were very fortunate in the sense that we never had a complete lockdown here in the Netherlands. However, we could not travel abroad, not even to our neighbouring countries such as Belgium, Germany and a bit further France.

We had planned our annual Alfa Spider friends trip early June, but had to cancel due to the fact France and also Belgium were still in full lockdown at that point in time.

But we replanned and a few weeks ago we undertook our first real road trip since mid January this year. Five days away and abroad.

Here you see us driving our Alfa Spider in France, the Lorraine, Meuse area. Up front a Spider Series 4, behind it, my red Spider Serie 3, right behind me a Spider Serie 2 Coda Tronca and to the right a metal blue Spider Serie 2. We had another gorgeous Serie 2 Coda Tronca in our little group as well, but not shown here.

Pics: Your first post-lockdown highway drive-img_3406.jpg

We stayed with friends from our Spider club who own and run a Bed & Breakfast.
(https://leparadis.nl/?lang=en) We stayed for four nights, went out for tours every day. Very hot. Some of our ladies had originally said they would not come along to France in August. In the end everybody came. Because everybody had been cooked up at home for the last eight months. So it was the first time for all of us, hitting the roads in our Spider, doing a lot of driving, enjoying the scenery, look up some sites and enjoy each other company.

On the way back my wife and I decided to tour back through Luxembourg, stay one night in Trier, Germany. And continue along the Moezel the next day and headed home in the afternoon. 1950 km or thereabouts in a 1986 Alfa Spider. Oh joy!!

Re: Pics: Your first post-lockdown highway drive

Took a trip to Hyderabad for some work. This was the first roadtrip of the year, the last one was in November

We carried our own food and found the roads to be empty which made the 9 hour Journey reduce to a 7 hour one.
Also saw the Kia Sonet being unloaded in front of the Kia Factory.
