re: Zero-Alcohol Beer: Your best friend if you are driving back your friends from a party

I have never touched beer so I don't know how it actually tastes and I am not sure if I would like to taste something bitter even if it is non alcoholic unless it helps me stay awake during my night drives or it has healthier then other available carbonated drinks, which I think it is not. I do not see any reason for me to spend money on these.

re: Zero-Alcohol Beer: Your best friend if you are driving back your friends from a party

I've a policy of don't drink and drive. I've tried some version of non-alcoholic beer. For me, Beer without Alcohol is a person without a soul.

That said, it is still a viable drink (please let's not call it beer ) and I'd consider it a better alternative to fruit juice or aerated drinks.

re: Zero-Alcohol Beer: Your best friend if you are driving back your friends from a party

After almost three decades of driving and experimentation, I've realised that the best drink to have before a drive is pure cool water. I usually keep a bottle of cool (not cold) water in all my cars. As a teetotaller, I don't know what alcohol tasts like except the content found in certain expectorants.
Anyone here who feels sleepy after having coffee or Red Bull? I do and I'm not sure why...

Never! The "zero sugar" ones are the worst - they contain artificial sweeteners (in addition to so many other ingredients) that are worse than sugar. For example, Coke zero and Red bull sugar free contains "Aspertame", on which you could do your own research!

re: Zero-Alcohol Beer: Your best friend if you are driving back your friends from a party

I knew this thread would be a bit sensitive, so couple of clarifications:

- I am recommending having this non-alcoholic beer INSTEAD OF the real thing.

- When I said it's healthier, I meant as compared to alcoholic beer...not something like a glass of coconut water / fresh lime soda / green tea.

- I am NOT saying you should have a can of this while driving. Please refer to the opening post again. Inference was on "before".

Try Heineken zero alcohol beer. Might change your opinion .

No alcohol, so you'll pass through the breathalyser test with flying colours. Don't remember the smell factor though. Will update.

re: Zero-Alcohol Beer: Your best friend if you are driving back your friends from a party

Recently got acquainted with this. A friend in Pune told me about Coolberg and I feel this is much better than a coke. When you don't want to drink, you can be seen holding this

Usually I don't consume aerated drinks, but once in a while, they feel refreshing, especially the 7Up / Sprite ones. Coolberg can take its spot.

Not a big fan of Zero alcohol beer. Didn't like the taste of Budweiser Zero.

For late night drives, this is my best friend.

re: Zero-Alcohol Beer: Your best friend if you are driving back your friends from a party

Of all the non-alcoholic beers I've tried, the best tasting is Heineken and the worst tasting is San Miguel. I compared all the non-flavored malt beers and ranked them like this;

Malt Beers
1. Heineken
2. Holstein
3. Budweiser
4. Mousy
5. Barbican

Flavored Beers
1. Mousy Lemon Mint
2. Barbican Pomegranate
3. Budweiser Green Apple
4. Barbican Peach
5. Barbican Apple

Barbican and Mousy seem to have the most variety in terms of flavors. Most of them are very sweet and you can't drink more than a couple of 330ml bottles.

Of all the non-alcoholic beers available in the market, I had the privilege of having coolberg since my 4th year of college. They opened a small coolberg store inside my college hostel campus. "Such thoughtful wardens". It tastes way much better than Heineken (non-alcoholic), can't say about others, didn't taste.

Moreover, I think this non-alcoholic beer is just a matter of acquired taste rather than something that you'll like straight out of the can, unlike say, Coke!

So true. I tried this few years back when I wasn't able to get the real thing. It does taste and fizz like the real thing (think it was "Becks"). My wife tried it and she didn't like it. I used to buy it occasionally but not right now. It's actually expensive.

My wife didn't recollect getting any smell unless you burp (which I did) .

re: Zero-Alcohol Beer: Your best friend if you are driving back your friends from a party

What really is the point of drinking non alcoholic beer?

Personally, unless I'm unaware of it being non-alcoholic beer, I don't see the difference between drinking this, pepsi, or a glass of water with a wedge of lime in it, unless I'm trying to be a poser cool dude "I dont want the ladies at the bar to think I'm some school kid, with my soft drink, so let's drink this bitter tasting fake beer" . At least the other two taste better. Then again there are many other "fake" drink options which look cooler and also taste infinitely better.

Some how I can't fathom drinking beer without any of the fun of beer. Don't take me as one of those " I don't like beer coz of how it tastes" chaps. I absolutely love having my mug of beer, but come on, all the hard work of drinking that fizzy bitter golden liquid, with out the reward? Nope. What if it gets warm? Oh, god save me then!!

Heck even Appy fizz is a better option.

Sorry for the rant folks, but wanted to share my views on non-alcoholic beer, and I mean no offense to the NA beer lovers here, to each his own.

Would request/suggest appending this clarification in the first post, it's highly misleading otherwise. And coming from you, that has some weightage to most readers.

Anyone tried holding this / keep it in sight while getting their breath analyzed? I doubt that will pass easy as the test itself

I'm not being pedantic; but non-alcoholic options are dime a dozen in the market, several of those available when with drinking folks. Apart from the simple tried and tested option to just saying no to friends and family when you need to drive back.

A separate thread with the somewhat grand starting post and that Heineken image, which kind of gives a very wrong impression, especially on a topic the forum has been very particularly strict till date. Just my opinion / 2 cents on this.

Thanks for the tip! Ordered a pack directly from their website. Let's see how it tastes. Although so far, I have to say that Heineken's zero-alcohol beer remains the best.

See, that's the thing. Those earlier options were never a strong alternative for many people. This one actually is. The bold image in the opening post was 100% intentional to drive the message home that it looks like the real thing, tastes almost like the real thing, but is safe too. Not a compromised alternative.

End of the day, read the opening post again and you will see how it promotes SAFE DRIVING.

Zero-alcohol beer - I tried couple of years back (Heineken 0.0) and did not like it. It is either alcohol+no driving or driving+no alcohol for me. I tried Radler as well and did not like it.

I am not a coffee person but I took concentrated coffee from Cafe coffee day during night drive few times and it really worked.
