Digging up an old post but something similar happened to me this week. On Saturday (02.03.24) my car passed through Bandra Worli Sealink. Rs. 85 was deducted as expected from my car Fastag as the correct toll.

Today (05.03.24) late evening I got the following message by SMS:

Dear Customer,
Your HDFC Bank NETC FASTag A/c linked to MH01[******] has been charged Rs.45 for dispute on trip number [**************] at Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link done on 2024-03-02 16:43:36 due to Vehicleclassmismatch.
I logged into my HDFC Fastag website and against my fastag all it shows is my vehicle RC number. There are no other details listed there.

What could be the issue here please? I have had this Fastag on my car since many years now and never faced this issue before. This is also the only Fastag I have from HDFC. My other car sports a Fastag from another bank.

Thank you.

Hi Bhpians,
Is the icici wallet balance independent of the fastag balance? I mean, I recharged using wallet option, but still Rs 50 was deducted from fastag balance Rs 200.

My post from another thread that might be useful for you.

I faced a strange situation with my FasTag.

I was a user of PayTM tag since it was provided by dealer and working very well. Since the recent RBI order, I ordered ICICI tag and it got delivered to my permanent address. While returning from native, my PayTM tag was still in use and new ICICI tag was inside my bag in the boot, envelpe was not even opened! Strangely there was a deduction 155/ on both my tags at the first toll on Mysuru Expressway. and next toll deducted only from PayTM as there was only 200/ loaded in ICICI Tag while purchasing. I have raised ticket with ICICI with statement of both tags and it is more than 20 calendar days, still issue is open. Anyone faced this before? Do they refund the amount?

Thanks a lot for your reply and heads-up on this mess !

All along I was using ICICI imobile and confused with fastag balance and wallet balance. And now there is a dedicated app too "ICICI eToll"

So if I need to move wallet balance to fastag balance, I need to use ICICI eToll and not icici imobile as imobile doesn't have this facility.

Why do you need to mess up things instead of simplifying. Now, I know how hassel-free was paytm fastag.

Check out one way fare for LCVs on your next trip. That's what they charged you for probably. I was charged for a truck  How this malfunction happens, I have no clue. Do some tolls have vehicle body type detection software? Maybe it goes haywire and this happens.

I had a chat with the toll plaza back then and they said they haven't got the sum amount. Sum as in the PV toll and the extra that was debited. I spoke with Union bank and they said the amount lies in a suspense account, which meant the transaction was flagged and they don't just blindly credit whatever amount the toll plaza asks for. They said their 'tech specialists' will resolve and refund in so and so many days. Unsurprisingly nothing came of my complaints. I tossed the UBI fastag and got ICICI and it's been smooth sailing, touchwood.

Funnily, after 3 years, 250 was deducted on Atal Setu from the UBI fastag last month. So I guess the software detects number plate and maybe vehicle body type?

Has anyone tried airtel payment bank/wallet for the Fastag? They seem to have the same system as Paytm, all tags linked to one wallet and payment automatically gets cut from wallet cash. If this works then will have to shift most of my payments to Airtel when Paytm goes down

I had been using the Airtel wallet since many years for my Airtel bill payments. Recently upgraded to the Airtel Payments bank account and started using it for regular digital payments at local vendors and the experience has been smooth so far.

But faced one issue, my Airtel wallet got disappeared along with the balance in it when I upgraded to the Airtel Payments bank account. I had to do few follow ups with them and had to go through some formal process to get the balance credited back into my bank account. They say that wallet closes down if the Airtel Payments bank account gets activated.

So if you are already using the wallet and want to upgrade to the payments bank then first clean out the old balance to save yourself from the hectic process.

The Airtel Payments bank account is like any other bank account. But the advantage is we can have the small digital payments separate from our primary bank account to keep our bank statements clean from the small transactions.

Another advantage is we are eligible for the 7% interest if we maintain the monthly average balance of Rs. one lakh or above.

Recently also got the Airtel Fastage, though haven't yet installed it because the old Paytm Fastage sticker has left it's glue on the windscreen and I want to stick the new Airtel Fastag at the same place.

I opened this thread to ask the solution to clean the Fastag sticker glue from the windscreen and found your post.

Any help for cleaning the old Fastag sticker glue is highly appreciated. :)

I had removed the FASTag without leaving any residue. I posted it here. Trust it will help:

I am facing a very unique and weird problem with Airtel Fastag. Though I have recieved my fastag almost 4 days back and my airtel payments bank account is fully functional (as I am able to make payments through it for any other bills), the Airtel App for me is not showing the Activate Fastag option.

I have followed the process App > Netc Fastag > But, I can't click on anything there. There's no activate fastag button only.

I am at my wits end as the mail to wecare isn't helping and airtel customer care guys look lost. Reinstalling the app doesn't help either.

Check attached screenshot!

Anybody with front windshield sunfilm removed the FASTag? As there's no point in waiting for PayTM, am planning to go for ICICI tag.

Any tips would be appreciated.

My Uncle got it done for his Jeep Compass - he went to 3M and they did it for him with no damage to the sunfilm is what he said. He plans to stick the new Fastag in the exact same location.

EDIT: It seems the 3M guy said there was no sunfilm in that portion anyways - so was more straight forward looks like.

@tbppjpr, Thanks. This is helpful.
@izzikio_rage - There are charges that comes along with the Airtel Savings Bank Accounts such as Account Facilitation Charges / Annual Subscription Charges, Account Operation Charges, SMS Alert Charges etc., - Please read more at https://www.airtel.in/bank/bank-charges

Most likely your fastag is already active. There was no additional activation step required for HDFC fastag - just plug and play.
You could check the status of your fastag on the NPCI website to see whether it is active.

Since I opened a new Airtel sb account + fastag, looked deeper into the links you mentioned. Here is what found:

---------------
3. Savings Bank Account Annual Subscription Charge is not applicable for the below categories of customers

a. DBT linked recipients for the last 12 months,

b. APY premium paying on a regular basis,

c. Rewards123/RewardsMini/Rewards123Plus and Suraksha Subscription older customers,

d. Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account & Dormant account holder
---------------

The account that I have is listed as 'Basic' in MyAccount->Account Info-> Plan Type. So I am thinking that with this setup there will not be any annual subscription charges (Rs 100 otherwise).

There is an SMS charge that is levied though. Something to keep in mind but it seems quite small:
-----------
Effective September 5th 2023, monthly SMS Alert Charges will be levied at Rs. 0.3 per SMS (excl GST). First 10 SMSs are not chargeable. Customers wishing to opt out from this charge can call the call centre and charges won't be levied. All mandatory SMSs (as prescribed by RBI circular on customer protection) will be sent to customers even if customers opt out of the charge. Effective February 1st 2023, the SMS charges (excluding GST) will be capped at INR 100.
----------

I just removed my Paytm Fastag minutes ago. The outer layer peels off easily - the usual glass cleaners like Colin etc don't work that well. I sprayed the residue (and last layer with RFID tag) with Acetone aka nail polish remover and slowly scratched with a fresh blade. Surprisingly, it worked quite well. Keep the pace slow, wet the area with Acetone and scratch gently with blade. Finally cleaned the area with Colin. As good as new.
