Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

Based on the above comments, I understood that ICICI is the best to choose for FASTag services. I will be in India this week and would like to have the FASTag for my car. However, I realized, it would take 6-7days for the FASTag to arrive if I go through the Bank. Does the Toll Plaza issue the Tag immediately or do we still need to wait for the same amount of time once we submit the application at the Toll Gate itself.
Is there any other way to get the FASTag in a short time?
Suggestions will help me.

I had Equitas , never took more than 2-3 days for the tag to arrive. I remember a friend of Parag did the same, and also got it in 2 days.

Not just one friend. I have lost count on the number of friends and colleagues who ordered via Equitas. Even 2 from Mumbai got it delivered in under 3 days flat. Bangalore it took 2 days when I ordered for my friend. And needless to say, Equitas has maintained consistency with super fast delivery.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just created an account for myself by uploading a picture of my cars RC and made the payment through Equitas.
Received a text message that the Fastag will be received within 5working days.
Hope it reaches before I arrive in India on Saturday

After I replied to your post, I called the ICICI fastag customer care hoping something has changed. I would like to thank you because otherwise I wouldn't have know that it has indeed changed.

The customer care executive told that it can be done by raising a ticket. She explained how to do it and opened a ticket for me by herself. Here is how it is:

After logging into the account, we have to go to Helpdesk>complaints>request information/inquiries.
In the TYPE dropdown menu select REQUEST .
In the SUBTYPE dropdown menu select TAG RELATED.
Write something like "deactivation of tag and balance refund" in TITLE field.
In the DESCRIPTION field, give details of tag account number, tag serial number and vehicle number to deactivate.
At the bottom, there is an option to attach files. Here we have to attach three files (scan and upload)
1. Write a simple letter on a white sheet to deactivate the tag
2. A cancelled cheque
3. PAN card copy
Upon submitting that, we get a notification that the ticket is submitted and we even get a confirmation SMS.

After this, it seems the tag will be deactivated in 7 working days and the balance will be credited to the account in 21 working days.

I finished this today and will now wait to see what happens. If anything unusual, will update this thread.

I did all this back in January (I had sold my car in December) yet I am still waiting for the refund of the security deposit and unused balance.

Thanks for all the reverts. I think after reading all this, I will just not try to close the existing tag account, but I will add the new tag to the existing account and leave the old tag as it is, anyway I have already removed the tag from the car and it's with me right now.

I will update once I add the new tag on how it goes.

On an another note, if there is a black patch on the top center part of the windshield where should I affix the tag. If I affix below the black patch then there is almost no space left to fix the ActionCam.

Anywhere on the windshield is ok. I have it on the passenger side corner of the windshield (because of the dashcam at the centre) and have not faced any issues so far.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

I got to use Fasttag from Bangalore-Mumbai over the last week. The experience was just pathetic.
1.There don't seem to be a dedicated lane for FASTTag and all lane have been converted to Hybrid lanes.
2. Everytime the cashier would ask me for cash, only after me indicating Fast tag, he would start deduction.
3. At some toll, the processing was too slow, cash payment was much faster.
4. Lastly super irritated by the VIP lane. We pay toll and wait indefinitely and these so called VVIP's just zip through without paying a single penny.

Points 1 and 4 are shocking and surprising.
Never did know or hear that there is a separate lane for VIPs!!! So, they did take the court direction of having a separate lane seriously???
I am a frequent traveller from Bangalore to Tamil Nadu, I have not come across a VIP lane.

I don't recall seeing one in Blore-Mlore route as well but last I traveled was about a month back. On Mumbai-Blore route, majority of the tolls had VIP/VVIP/Govt Official lane. From what I saw, a lot of private vehicles mostly claiming to be close associate of some big shot politician would fight with watchman and enter the VIP lane.

Especially Point 1 should not be. This is there now on this highway since more than a year now and the number of toll plazas having Hyrbid lanes is only increasing. Hence, there wont be any special treatment for FASTag vehicles. Even Nagpur Bypass/Ring road has Hybrid lanes on all their plazas when I drove in September.

Not really a VIP lane but these lanes cater to the locals. Example - Hebbalu Toll and Bankapura toll where the left most lanes in both directions cater to KA17 (Davanagere) and KA27 (Haveri)cars.

Much before FASTag, when I used to drive Pune/Mumbai, I often used to spot this left lane and a car moving and upon getting closer the man would pull the barricade and tell me it was for local vehicles.

However, my overall experience with FASTag on Mumbai route has been mixed, yet mostly positive than negative. The last one was in July when we were 7 cars with FASTag and things were absolutely smooth and recent one to Goa last month with 2 cars. All I felt was - FASTag indeed was helpful!

The other point on this route is the usage pattern - Lots of trucks and loads of buses use them. So they converted most plazas to Hybrid ones more than a year back itself including Hebbalu and Chalageri. But what was worst was places like Hattarigi and few plazas, they permanently shut down the dedicated lane and made every vehicle with FASTag to pass other lanes.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

Hi all.
I have just ordered ICICI fastag and got the usual sms messages regarding account activation. I am yet to receive the fastag in reality. I logged onto ICICI fastag site and completed all security answers. I am getting the attached screen on logging in. The status says tag active.
What do I do further? Just affix the tag and am I good to go? Or do I need to complete some other steps as well?
People having ICICI fastag will be really helpful in further guidance.

Nothing else, as soon as you get the tag, paste it on the windshield and you are ready to go!

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

I have been facing multiple instances where the amount gets debited twice and does not calculate for return journey on the same day.
Any idea on how I can claim the amount back.

Really frustrated as this happens too many times.
I have disabled my FastTag currently.

Porur Toll, in Chennai is where I face double deduction most of the time, that too on the same day within 24 hours.
