Re: Major Fire at Ceat Tyres Warehouse, Mumbai

Saw this report over TOI too.

Apparently, train services were impacted too, due to the close proximility of the lines to the factory.

Quote:
CR spokesman AK Singh said that the huge flames spread to the nearby Nahur station, especially near the tracks (No. 1). "While we did not stop the train services, we diverted trains from the slow to the fast tracks from 6pm," he said.
Trains services were, however, hit as the frequency of both Up and Down trains were affected, sources said. The services were running behind schedule. In fact, there was a megablock in the afternoon due to which several passengers were inconvenienced already.
There was an ambiguity over the report. Mumbaikars can help confirm the actual location.

The report and its headlines talk about Central Mumbai.

One reader has challenged this saying:
Quote:
Bhandup and Mulund are not Central Mumbai. Perhaps the author of this writeup has not done his / her research or homework well. Bhandup and Mulund called Ishaaniya Mumbai or Mumbai North east. Central Mumbai is Lower Parel, Mahalaxmi, Mumbai Central, Elphistone and Dadar.
EDIT: Just got the Video to load now and saw it. Is the fire still ON since 5:40PM yesterday evening ??
Or is it a video from last evening that they are playing ? Hope things to have cooled down by now.

Re: Major Fire at Ceat Tyres Warehouse, Mumbai

Consdiering that the factory is very close to the Nahur station the train services must have been surely affected. But the recent reports claim that the manufacturing facility wasnt affected, the warehouse was the one which caught fire due to raw material storage.

Lucky that there was no loss of life looking at the intesity of the fire in the pics. Surely the CEAT operations will take a hit and might take months to come back to full production. Hope the injured have a fast recovery.

I thought it was just a single dark cloud until I saw that it was funneling up from the ground! I was seeing this from my complex in Vikhroli! The smoke cloud formed was too large to be believed.

Based on what has been reported till now, the good news here is that there has been no loss of life. I am also not concerned much about the damage to goods or property because most of it would be covered under Insurance. But something that really troubles me is the pollution because of burning rubber or raw material and its effect on the nearby areas.

I used to find it difficult to pass by those areas where people burn Rubber during winters to keep them warm, i shdder to think to what extent people have to bear with the pungent smell engulfed in the area, besides the smoke and dust.

I read this today at the new papers, but the picture here show the true intensity of the fire.

Re: Major Fire at Ceat Tyres Warehouse, Mumbai

When I came out last evening from Nirmal Lifestyle at around 6pm, I was surprised to find dark clouds hovering and was wondering about such a change in climate. But then I noticed a bit further ahead the sky was clearer.
On closer look realized it was huge clouds of smoke coming from the CEAT area.

But strange how come such a huge fire took place on a non working day.

Conspiracy theories are floating around, given the prime real-estate area it occupies.

Day of fire at prominent places, today !
Now a Science Lab in IIT-Delhi up in flames. Not a major one though, it seems.

Quote:
According to Times Now, the fire started from a science lab on the fifth floor in one of the blocks on the campus.
Students said they heard explosions from the lab before the fire started.

Re: Major Fire at Ceat Tyres Warehouse, Mumbai

I was on my way for a movie at Thane and started seeing the cloud. For a moment I felt it was a big cloud only to realise that it was actually a major fire. If I am not wrong this location is very close to JMD workshop at Bhandup.
