Range Rover turns turtle, catches Fire

A Range Rover on collision with a Toyota Corolla, turned turtle and caught fire in Delhi.
Car collision near PM's house triggers panic, jams - The Times of India

How could a high end car like Range Rover, topple over and end up in flames?
Are these cars not designed to sustain such accidents. The car wasn't at a very high speed.
Though there were no injuries, thankfully. Also the Corolla was unharmed.

No matter how good a rating a car receives in a crash test, it isn't invincible you know. Crash tests check for specific results. This incident may have somehow caused the fuel line to rupture. This can happen to a Rolls Royce let alone a Range Rover.

Re: Range Rover turns turtle, catches Fire

It good to read the occupants were safe or worse came out with minor bruises. Lately the car burning incidents were ending in a much sorrowful state.

Something on the news caught my attention here is the text

The driver of the vehicle Devinder had a friend with him, who had to reach Hotel Ramada. The Range Rover jumped the red light on Safdarjang Road, and rammed into the oncoming Corolla being driven by a Gautam Nagar businessman Rajneesh Chopra.

So looks like the Driver jumped the signal and then rammed the corolla. Did the police booked him for rash driving, he should be booked even though the parties have reached settlement.

Cars are meant to be driven on the road, not be toppled over by hitting another car. No car in the world can handle that, no matter how expensive it is.

"Police said, the youngster appeared to have lost control over the wheels at a traffic signal on Safdarjang Road. The Range Rover rammed into a Toyota Corolla, went flying into the air before turning turtle and caught fire."

Our roads are getting deadlier day by day because of these inexperienced fools driving inherited powerful cars from their fathers and who are totally ignorant about safety and consequences in case of a mishap.

He was lucky to be alive, hope he learnt something from his mad behaviour.

Charges can not be pressed and an FIR can not be lodged since there is no complainant and he did not damage any public property, police is helpless the law has loopholes. In any accident if the parties reach a compromise, the police can't do anything.

Do you mean to say police need someone to file a complaint to book someone for jumping red signal and rash driving? They should book the driver and slap a case for jumping signal and rash-driving (if he has indeed guilty of that)

Traffic police can book for red light - mere 500 rupees fine. Won't stop a rash driver who has a RR.

For rash and negligent driivng someone needs to file a complaint, depending what it abets to or what is it in an attempt to.

Re: Range Rover turns turtle, catches Fire

I am not amazed on the news of a SUV toppling. Here, is another article on the same:

Jeep Rollover Controversy a Classic Lesson in Physics - MSN Autos

Can't blame Range Rover to have bad dynamics as almost all body-on-ladder SUVs are the same, whether Pajeros, Safaris, Scorpios or any Jeep. This is the reason where pseudo SUVs like XUV500, Duster & other monocoques score.

But, there are few issues raised by this accident:
1. The accident happened in the VIP Zone (near PM's Residence). Why should speeding be possible in this zone at any time?

2. On of my assistant, who frequents that place informed me that the road was damaged to great extent, implying that the vehicles must have burned for some time till somebody doused it. When it happened near PM's residence, why could not it be attended on time? What if it was a terrorist act instead of simple accident?

3. It was well beyond the normal rush hour (accident happened after 10.30 pm). Who was the jaywalker in the sensitive zone? Was he a spy or what, but, one must try to get hold of this gentleman as well, because of whom this trouble started.

4. Why should the parties be allowed to reach a compromise, isn't it similar to blood money or bribe... .

I fear that these issues will go unattended after the compromise between the parties.
